Moderator's Report

Another new track to UKGPL and another success with the drivers, though we did suffer a couple of discos so maybe we should test this circuit in the off season before we run it again.

We also saw another new Clark-Hill driver here who impressed the Ceremonial Gundy with his first win.

The ground staff at Wigram would like to thank the drivers, especially Fabio, for cutting the grass so evenly but they have asked if they can have the fences repaired ASAP as they help to keep the sheep off the runway.

The workmen in the hangar were most impressed with Pete Maestro's 360 spin but they found his lap 18 failed take off attempt most disappointing.

RogUK failed to make the grid and started from the pit lane but the DNFs meant that his title hopes were kept alive with a 5th place finish.

Server replay time: 0h01m20s

Nigel Smith takes a very tight line through The Loop and drives straight into the side of Pete Maestro. I don't think it was an attempted overtake but this seems the penalty that "fits" it best.

Suffice to say that it is always the responsibility of the following driver to avoid a collision.

As it is a lap 1 incident where we ask for more care, it attracts a further penalty place.

Season 19 Novices Trophy - Round 7 Wigram

Round 7 of the Novices trophy again sees the Amateurs wimping out of the challenge of a real circuit. This time they are desperate to avoid the unique challenges of Wigram, New Zealand.

Like Silverstone (another one avoided by the Amateurs) The circuit is made up of the roads and the runway around an airfiled, this one being the old Air Force Base at Wigram Park.

Named after Sir Henry Wigram, the temporary 2.1 mile circuit was first used in 1949 but for safety reasons the last race was in 2000 for classic racers.

Reserve drivers should not join the server until there are only 30 mins of qualifying left.  However, all drivers should not go on track until there is 30 minutes of qualifying left.  This helps all drivers join the server successfully.  Please restrict chat to pit messages only, including at the end of the race until ALL drivers still racing have crossed the line.

Don't forget to use the updated 65 mod for this race.

Please be in the IGOR UKGPL chatroom by 8:55 p.m.

Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page

We have split the cars into groups based on average performance and split the drivers into groups based on average ability. The chassis numbers for Novices are as follows:

NOVICE CHASSIS GROUPS
1 - Lotus, Ferrari, BRM, Honda
2 - BT11
3 - Cooper
4 - BT7

Each driver has been given a seeding number and must pick a chassis with either an equal number or higher number but not a lower number. For example, if a driver is given a seeding of 2, he must pick one of the cars in group 2 (BT11) but if he would prefer to drive either the Cooper or BT7 he may do so. This means that a driver given a seeding of 1 can pick any chassis he prefers.

**NOTE**
Whichever chassis a driver begins his first race with is the chassis he must use for the remainder of the season unless a change has been agreed with the moderator.

Screen freeze in qually was ominous, sure enough got a screen freeze on lap 2. No disco just froze and the acceleration went higher then 10,000 revs, I had to run 'task manager' to shut it - don't know what it looked like to those behind but hope it didn't cause problems.
Now they have released prib for D3Dv2 going to try switching from original OpenGL - mind you not had problems before...

...Stop Press; just hearing a team-mate got the same thing

Yeap, same thing happened to me, screen freeze, revs go off the scale and had to use task manager to kill it.

I was right behind your car Tim and you just disapeared, I hope I did too and didn't cause any problems for anyone else.

Was enjoying the race too, was 4th and was doing OK, lap times looks OK and hadn't made any silly mistakes. Was looking forward to getting a good finish. Not letting it get to me, as there is always another race in 2 weeks, and I was g;ad to be nearer to the front this time.

Yes same for me in Ams, had to kill it with task manager.  Happened L1 T2 for me when network demand is high, I suspect it was BW related in my case.

I was using openglv2 for first time.
reset to D3D and rejoined just before end of qually

Completed race OK but most of the time very lonely at the back, didn't get a lot of practice so very slow on this circuit.

Happy to have got a 4th in the end, but only due to low attendance and a few disco'ing

It's difficult to scratch ones head, while still wearing a helmet, but Wigram is one of those tracks.  Perhaps after enough laps, I would've taken time enough to remove such, crash lid, in order to pull my hair out instead!  I am fully convinced, it was a wig salesman who created this track! Undecided

Suffice to say, destiny and I were not to meet with a pole. Umm . . . on the track I mean, the grid thingy?  My chariot was down on power, and all I could do, was recoup for the race.  So, with sinews straining, I lined up 3rd on the grid, and hurtled into the first corner with a "twang!". . . and did so sinuously.

By the end of lap 1, the cars in front had disappeared, but strangely, appeared again in my mirrors.  "That's odd," I thought, "must be doing something wrong."  Evidently, those following weren't happy with my behaviour, and were chasing furiously.  This continued for 10 laps, until I hit some oil from a disconnected car, and ran wide.  One of the Loti came screaming past, but seemed much happier, once in front.

Soon after, while merrily wending my way,(what's a wend?) one of the strange, straw bale-like New Zealand sheep, darted under my wheels!  They'd seemed well behaved up to that point?  The car slewed sideways, and I was now 3rd on the road, with the sheep in 4th.

As luck would have it, I managed to retake 2nd.  Annoyingly though, Ross seemed happier out in front, and Norm seemed convinced, I was in his spot.  We carried on like this, in close formation for much of the race.  I don't know why I even bothered bringing the binoculars!  Smiley

So a surprised 2nd in a stricken field, and commiserations to those who were DNF'd.

A first win, delighted to make the top step of the podium especially as Norm and Martin, who were slightly quicker, put pressure on me all the way.

Put in a good lap early in qualifying and figured that would be good enough for pole - wrong. Norm banged in an excellent lap which forced me into abandoning my race prep. I managed a PB, mid 22s I think, which put me back in top spot.

The early laps didn't go so well, I ran wide at the second hairpin on lap 1 allowing Martin into the lead for the first dozen laps. Norm was also close behind and the three of us left the rest a fair way back. Eventually Martin made an error and I nipped past, keeping a 3-4 second gap until the chequered flag.

The only worry I had was, after lapping Fabio's Ferrari on the back straight, a message box popped up in Windows behind GPL, causing a loss of sound and much confusion, until I clicked the mouse to regain focus. However this meant Fabio closed up into turn 1 and nearly rear-ended me, thanks Fabio for spinning to avoid contact with me and apologies for spoiling that part of your race!

As some of you might have noticed I joined the Clark-Hill brigade last week, who all helped me a lot preparing for this race. Thanks guys.

This is a difficult track where good sector times are possible but it seems impossible to string them into a lap anywhere near their total time. Ross's pole, - talk about laying down a marker!. Brilliant, too fast for me.
Ran a low 1st gear by my standards for the loop & hairpin & still lost a place off the line. After that it was formation flying at the front with Ross & Maddog. I was aware of Vos discoing & mentally noted HappyAl was a handy 4th for a while because I tried a BRM at this track & it was good so I was hoping it wasn't THAT good for him Wink. Seems he had pc problems as well.
Did get to 2nd for a few laps but made a mistake & we resumed the Ross, Maddog, & me formation. I was mesmerised following Maddog who was doing massive slides apparantly on the verge of disaster but he always held on. Nearly got him at the hairpin but when we scrabbled round he was still ahead. This was a good clean race all round.
I'm going all poetic now. - "I'm trying to drive, like Evil Clive". Altered my style as much as possible as he suggested. Guess what my engine lasted. Thanks Clive.
So well done Ross on your 1st win & Maddog working wonders with the Cooper again. Pity about the low turnout & the number of pc related problems others had.
It may not be possible for me to make it to Rouen so have a good one.

Internet connection problems last night - think it was my computer or ISP rather than the server. Tried about half a dozen times but lost connection every time.
Not a big fan of Wigwam.
Shame - could have watched the football instead.

Grats to Ross on win and Grats to podium. First time for me could not join race start, clicking green button no joy, reading above posts perhaps had same or similar problem to them. Had a Lonely 28 laps but great track.

As most of us, I had in qualify a screen freeze with revs went off scale and task manager to kill it.

But before I also experienced a "blue screen of death" for the very first time while running GPL

I tried the track for the first time in qualify and my race also was not so good and I quit after some laps because I was really tired.

WD Ross for losing his virginity Grin
