Moderator's Report

A maiden win for Ronnie (well done) with the top three rounded off by Mike T and Hannah. This leaves Vos holding a slight lead over Mike with Bill still in contention and two races to go.
One incident at the start (more below).

Server replay time: 0h00m50s

Bernie had a faster start then Vos with a subsequent coming together before the first turn.
Both drivers had moved towards the middle. Bernie slightly more than Vos but only the width of the white line more. Can't criticise Bernie for making a good start, a driver has to make the best start they can, but he shouldn't have drifted across. Equally can't criticise Vos for a slower start but he shouldn't have drifted across either.

The rules can be interpreted in many ways, they are always devised to address the extreme cases, and then refined for the less clear cut cases.
Of the penalty scenarios, Simple Side by Side states "On a straight, the overtaking car moves out to overtake and both drivers drift off line. Penalty for both drivers."

But that would be a bit harsh in this case. Given that both drivers moved across, Racing Incident.

The problem was with his slow start , I didnt want to ease off and cause those behind me to have to slow to avoid a collision and thus a concertina accident .
I don't want to get into a forum debate but I would say I was in control and driving correctly, if someone can get the drop and pull in front of me good for them. All I would say is take a look at the replay in both cars.
No hard feelings, that's racing and we both lost out - sorry for Billy and Nigel who I think had to take an early bath as well.

Another enjoyable outing. I managed to qualify 8th, about 3.5 seconds off H's epic time, made a half decent start, passed Clive after he had a bit of a tankslapper out of the first bend and also Steve once his Eagle's rear decided it wanted to swap ends. Soon afterwards Clive passed me with his superior pace and proceeded to hound Al in the Brabham, but Clive went a bit too deep into Nouve Monde and gave Al a playful tap into the hairpin, spinning him round and left Clive airborne. After watching this with a grandstand seat, I thought I could sneak though only for Clive to rudely land on my car!  Grin.

Nevertheless, the BRM soldered on without a trace of damage. Clive once again caught me and after I had a bit of a moment out of the first bend we were side by side going into turn 2. I had the inside so I held my line, Clive went wide to avoid me a put a wheel on the grass which resulted in him taking a journey into the scenery. Not sure if I'm to blame there Clive as I haven't looked at the replay yet but I'm guilty then I do apologise. For few laps I was driving my own race only for Al, driving an excellent race, began to slowly creep up on me lap by lap. Eventually I cracked and braked too late into Samson, making friends with the hay bales, allowing Al through. I tried to catch him in vain but again went too deep into the turn with no name just before Samson, losing about 10 seconds, and Al in my sight.

I was soon in 3rd once again when Rick retired, but this time, I had Clive catching me up at about a second a lap. I was driving rather erratically at this point, outbraking myself, going into corners in the wrong gear, reacquainting myself with the hay bales and as a result Clive caught me with about 5 laps to go; but he made some lovely pirouettes into Nouve Monde, giving me a bit of breathing space. But my 3rd was short lived as I took the final turn a bit too steadily and Clive pounced and snatched 3rd place from me on the final straight. Cracking bit of driving there Clive  Smiley.

Still, 4th place isn't  so bad. Congrats to H for another peerless drive. Al for a solid 2nd, Clive for a fighting 3rd and Tom for making it to the end in the other BRM (No mean feat Wink).

I dont think my comments suggest in any way that it was your fault,  or that you were not in control , The fact is I have already said my car wasnt fully under control leaving the grid . I said  "I got into a wobble" I dont know how or why , but that's what happened

What I was saying,  or trying to say,  was that your slow (slower ) start brought me alongside you and gave me little room for any errors .

The reason we use a staggered grid is to avoid these situations but it still depends on all party's getting off the line properly.

We touched and I'm sorry , I wasn't blaming anyone , there was sod all I could do to change the situation and no use crying about it .

Not the first time this kind of thing has happened and it surely wont be the last.

This was a race where I was never meant to finish, let alone get a podium place Undecided Grats to Hristo for fending off the round eyes and to Al for denying the second spot to a Waza.

I was still sorting my setup with 5 mins of qually left, and as a result never got in a really good lap so started 6th.
The start, started well all the way to T1, where some erratic braking and maneouvring ahead obliged me to take to the grass in full avoidance mode. .....7th place Undecided
Recovered and quickly closed the gap to the rear of Sam's BRM ( a sight that was to become increasingly familiar right up to the chequered flag!! Roll Eyes )
Passed Sam ( for the 1st time!) and set off after Al and his Brabham. Got past Al  after a misunderstanding about braking etiquette at Nouveau Monde and promptly threw the Honda at the scenery to allow Al and Sam to retake their positions.
Began to catch Sam ( again) and got almost alongside before developing a sudden keen interest in the quality of grip ( not) afforded by French grass!
Overdriving and a couple more incidents dropped me behind Tom by the half way point and I almost threw in the towel. But remarkably as the Waza was still apparently undamaged, despite my best efforts to re arrange the steering and suspension, I pushed on.
Prib showed that when I managed to concentrate , my lap times were fast enough to catch cars in front, so I had a cool drink up the long back straight and gritted my teeth.......SHE would expect some serious points from this race.

Tom was caught and passed, a few cars ahead succumbed to the pace and I was up to 4th but Sam was waaaayyy ahead. I decided to throw everything overboard that was not required and the fundoshi, which was heavy with sweat, had to go Grin The resultant increase in pace and the extra cooling enabled me to reel in Sam. Then a mistake halved the gap and he was in my sights.
"At this pace of closing it will be a  doddle to pass Sam before the end and take a glorious 3rd for HER" I thought.
We crossed the line with 4 laps to go and I was once again staring at a BRM exhaust system!, just waiting for the moment to sweep past......... until Nouveau Monde where I ballsed up the braking and gracefully swapped ends to park against the polos  Undecided
A quick recovery and still no damage and set off again to catch those tail pipes.  2 laps to go across the S/F line and a close up of those ruddy BRM tail pipes again....ok this time wait until the braking for Scierie and pounce........except at Nouveau Monde I ballsed up the braking and ......was left 4 secs behind.!!!!!
So, pulling the white headband down over my eyes I resorted to the Waza training and drove on sense of smell. Which would also mean that I would not have to see any more BRM tailpipes!!

1.5 laps to go and 4 secs to make up!! , but maybe I could force an error and still sneak 3rd?? Demon braking at every corner ( except Nouveau Monde on the last lap!) and absolute max revs from Nippon's finest engine and I was closing at the end of the main straight. SStill closing..... 50 yds behind coming to final corner....bugger! too far back! but banzai the last corner anyway as I can't lose 4th from here. It seems Sam was either ultra cautious through the last turn or had a "moment" but I nailed it with the tyres smoking and emerged on to the S/F straight right in his slipstream and the throttle screwed to the floor. Picked up the tow and jinked out at the very last second with the rev counter in unknown territory to just squeeze past on the line  for a 3rd spot that was never meant to happen after the first half of my race...well and the 2nd half really Roll Eyes

In qual I've beat my PB and I was 3rd.

Race started ok. I was behind Rick and I could keep his pace. Afther few laps Tim(FMG) catch us. On main straight Tim decided to attack me and we were 2w in T1. I was on the outside, but on straight I was in front. At that time I was sure that Tim is behind me, so I decided to get back on racing line. That was big mistake, because Tim's Lotus was a lot fasther than mine he catch me exactly in a moment when I was returning into racing line. we collided and we both were out of the race.

I'm really sorry about that Tim. I feel very bad about what happened.

Don't worry too much Bart, I was proper steaming as I quit out (Had pinned Rouen as the start of my drive for the Championship - hence the Lotus finally) but I've been in your position myself and caused the exact same accident a few times so know how easy it is to do  Embarrassed
I know you're normally a safe, concientious driver to race against so I'll just have to chalk it to experience for you. Took me a long time to learn that sometimes it's better to hold a bad line when not 100% sure than pull in without clear views of your opponent in the mirror  Smiley

I'm actually suprised at the pace I had in the race after the dire handling my Lotus had right through Practice. In the end I thought 'sod it' and made a bunch of huge random adjustments to springs, shocks, and diff before the race against all better judgement.
The end result was a car that was incapable of driving in a straight line but which cornered like a dream, was the first really controllable drift setup I'd developed here.
The result was you were hard to gain an advantage against on the main straight but seemed unable to even approach my cornring speeds, hence me going alongside when you messed up entering the S/F straight and deciding to continue fighting for position after T1.

I'll just have to hope My car choices for the remaining 2 races work out this time.  Smiley

Congrats To the finishers  angel

I've just watched the server replay and noticed that after Bernie had spun round and was facing the wrong way, I drove straight through his Lotus with ne'er a scratch. This hadn't shown up on my client replay so presumably as far as my PC was concerned the Lotus wasn't there.

Wasn't expecting too much from this race, especially when I saw all the Lotii & Eagles lining up, but was pleased to get into the 57's in Q for 4th on the grid. Apologies to Clive for my slight stutter on the entry to T1 - I'd made a decent start right behind Bartosz & was about to turn in towards the apex when Tim sped through on the inside - nothing wrong with the pass, but it just took me completely by surprise at the very second I was about to turn in so caused me to lift momentarily.

Clive got his revenge a few laps later down into the hairpin where we once again debated the merits of early vs. late braking... by the time I'd extracted myself from the polos I'd lost 3 places so resumed in 8th. Thanks to my teammate Tom who kindly let me through into 7th, I was able to start chasing Clive & Sam straight away. After Clive took a brief jaunt into the woods, I found myself closing on Sam's tail - was very impressed to see the BRM being ushered around so swiftly & was looking for a way round when Sam ran wide at Samson which allowed me to sneak past. By this time, Tim & Bart had retired so I was up into 3rd though a long way behind the leaders. Not sure if I picked up any damage in the earlier incident but for some reason I wasn't able to match my practice times so just concentrated on getting to the finish in one piece. Congratulations to Hristo on a strong win and also to Clive & Sam for the 3rd place photo finish. Commiserations to Rick for rotten luck once again but a great show of pace while the engine lasted.

More catching up for me so here are the Statmeister results from the last two Graduates Cup events.

Round 7 was at Le Mans Bugatti where a perfect consistency score would have been 150. In Privateers Vosblod took his 2nd consistency top score of the season while over in Works Al Heller won with virtually the same score. High Climber awards for Privateers & Works went to Billy Nobrakes & FMG respectively.

Round 8 was at Rouen & a perfect score there would have been 125. In Privateers Michael Turner was top of the consistency stakes for the 3rd time this season (despite not finishing the race) while in Works Hristo took the top prize. The Privateers High Climber was Hannah who scored a +8 (despite not finishing) while Works plaudits were shared between Samb & King Hiro on +4.

Privateers Table (after Round 8 ):

Works Table (after Round 8 ):

* (P) in the Climber-Meister table denotes adjustment due to Moderator Penalty
** 0.00 in Consistency table denotes average laptime deviation > 5 secs cutoff
*** 2 worst scores to be dropped
**** Drivers must complete at least 50% of the season to qualify for Climber-meister final table
