Moderator's Report

Drivers are reminded that flashing of lights should be done only as an attempt to warn a slower driver ahead that a faster driver is approaching, and should not be used to distract an opponent as part of a contested pass for position.

Server replay time: 150s

The start was, to put it mildly, a mess. Having studied the replay in detail, there was no single culprit or cause, so instead of issuing warnings or penalties, I'm going to make some general comments aimed at avoiding a repeat performance, and will also revisit the official start procedure in time for Season 2.

The principle cause was having a fairly fast corner before the final turn, which caused a serious concertina effect, the field getting slower and slower into the final turn until eventually it ground to a halt and collected the later runners.

Aajay was very unlikely to be turned into a floating aerial sculpture.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 170s

After the final turn, there was further contact on the main straight as the pack moved towards the start line.

Mo, who is leading the field, has a short spurt of acceleration before reaching the line. Greg reacts but then backs off again when he realises that Mo hasn't actually gone for it, and Ginsters follows suit. Nick sees Ginsters start speeding up and assumes the race is on, running into the back of Ginsters when he slows again, which in turn causes Ginsters to run into Greg.

It is critical that the leader maintains a steady pace out of the final turn, and that each driver does the same as they form up behind.

Mo then actually starts at the wrong line, but this doesn't cause any additional problems.

  • mocaution — not maintaining a steady speed out of the final turn
  • mocaution — starting to accelerate before the start line

Server replay time: 640s

Mark Jonzo is drafting as-here down the back straight but never pulls out, instead braking a little too late and running into the back of as-here, taking both off and putting as-here out of the race.

  • Mark J (Mark Jonzo)penalty — rear ending as-here — 2 places lost
For advice only - unreported by victim, so penalty disregarded

Server replay time: 1348s

Jon Chadwick is trying to lap Popabawa as they come out of 4 and into Bilstein. He tries to force his way up the inside and there is contact.

Whilst I appreciate that Jon was trying to keep up with Mo and challenge for the lead, and Popabawa did have a fair lead in class, this was a rather impatient move given that there was the long Stadium Straight just a few seconds away where a safe pass could be (and was) made.

Server replay time: 1518s

Nick Phillips has just been passed by Greg130, and the pair now need to lap Locutos in his BMW as they approach Hasseroder. Locutos stays to the left and lets Greg by on the right, but Nick brakes too late and hits Greg hard from behind, taking both off.

would it be possible to have a code word or something to tell the leaders to do another formation lap to allow those that survive to race?Huh what do you think guys?Huh?

We debated something similar in UKGPL and came to the conclusion that it's not practical. Some of us race with chat off and wouldn't see it. There's no race observer to count the number of cars which go out, and even if there was, what proportion would have to be wiped out to restart - 10%? 20%? 50%? And would a damaged but still mobile car count towards the total?

Let's look at the replay first and establish what actually went wrong before we try and fix it.

Incident reports for this race to Dave - is that right?

Sorry for my terrible memory, it's been a while since I had to submit anything!

BTW Dave, you only have to turn up at Estoril and the championship is yours! You only need 8 points for an unasailable lead, we've never had enough NGT's to make than not happen.

Not a bad race. Stutter was gone - but I already solved that one earlier - and the lag and pings were pretty decent.

Was able to put a nice pace with the Z3 but lost too much time opening and facilitating as much I could the faster GT cars. Not that ever anyone forced overtaking or anything, it was just me that want to get out of the way. Even made a silly mistake on count of that. Also got mixed with an accident with a 550 and a 360 in T1, where it was impossible for me do much better in those circumstances and couldn’t completely avoid the 360.
Due to those 2 reasons, but mainly lost time while being overtaken,  I lost contact with Shark and from time to time the gap grown when a GT car appeared in my mirror.
I’m still not practice in being overtaken Grin and hoping never be  Grin
In the final part of the race I found Jonzo closing the gap and I though I would have to work hard to fight for 9th. But that didn’t happen and I reach the end of the race easily without any pressure.

Congrats to Mo, Popabawa and Shark for the wins.

It was an interesting race to say the least, but the rate of attrition was shocking. 20 starters and only 11 finishers (12 if you count the chap who sat in the pits for 2/3rds race)

Qualifying was a scrap for the NGT with the 1st 4 being within 3/4 of a second of each other, did a PB to get there too, so was looking forward to a close race.

Formation, as everyone has said, was fine until the last corner. Mark Jonzo stopped in front of me, and I avoided him but got a tiny tap from Shark behind me (no damage), I moved off only to see Shark go spinning off!! Set off down the start/finish to the slightly surreal sight of a 550 flying vertically through the air.

Nipped past Mark J and set off after Pops and to my suprise, managed to stay within a couple of seconds for about 5 laps......then lost it at the end of the S/F.

Managed to get moving OK, only lost a couple of spots then got a puncture after about 16 laps, took a pit and enough fuel to finish.

Had another couple of spins, one in front of Jon Chadwick (really sorry Jon) but I dont think there was any contact.

Ended 12th Sad very dissapointed tbh. I was on the pace of Pops and Mark J as the last 5 or 6 laps proved (although by this time I was a lap behind them, so they may not have been trying too hard) Plus Pops blue smoke screen seems to work a treat Wink Ive never seen a car lock brakes so often Smiley

For those last 5 laps I was happy sitting behind you as I was about 40s ahead of Shark at that point so I wasn't pushing too hard but I was definately quicker through turns 1-2 which is where you let me through.

I then got a bit nervous with slightly worn tyres with you and several GT's in my rear-view, I got a bit 'enthusiastic' on the brakes  Undecided I was trying so hard not to screw up  Roll Eyes.

Well done Sharks!

Perhaps I will take the Lotus next time out.  Shocked

First race back for a few weeks and went much better than expected!

Qualifying was pants, ended up 7th albeit in a race setup.  Couldn't find a setup that felt ok until I resorted to using my Monza setup with the wings at 2 and 12, which I did as a last resort but it worked pretty well!

No idea what happened on the formation lap!  Huh  Straight off the grid at the start, whoever qualified in 8th (ie behind me) decided to barge into 7th around turn 2, so I had to start a place back from where I should've been, then the whole last corner thing was a joke.  I've not seen the replay so I'll have to wait for that, but seeing a flying Ferrari in my mirrors was rather weird!  Shocked

The race itself was great, didn't spin once and kept it steady trying to keep SBG and Nick in sight at the start.  I could tell Mo was miles in the lead so I was amazed once everyone had pitted that I was in the lead!  Initially I could keep a 13-odd second gap but that reduced by a couple of seconds a lap until Mo caught me up on lap 35, then a good patient move up the inside on the back straight pushed me back to 2nd.  I was really happy to see a 20-odd second gap back to 3rd so I could stop pushing my tyers so much, and 2nd was much more than I'd hoped for.  Looks like it could be a good battle for 3rd in the championship now!

Onto Portugal, really have to get some laps in there or I'm gonna have a very hard time.

Woohoo - my first pole and first win. Cheesy

I had a good first stint, with myself and Jon C pulling out a bit of a lead. Jon then had a spin, and after pushing for a few laps I pulled out a 15 second lead, which I then threw away by having my own spin.
Luckily I had enough margin to remain in the lead until the pitstops. I rejoined after my stop in 4th (i think) and realised that some guys were no-stopping so had to push again.

Eventually I caught up to Zacari who was leading and showing good pace considering his tyres had done 50 mins, but I had more grip through the chicane allowing me to get a run down the back straight to take the lead with 3 or 4 to go.

Have to say thanks to all the lapped cars who were very professional - especially on a tight twisty track like Ocshers.
In fact the NGTs aren't actually that much slower round here than the GTs.
