Moderator's Report

In contradiction to the rules the following drivers completed the whole race with their lights on.

Due to a GTR bug two drivers were placed at the back of the grid. The drivers then proceeded to overtake on the formation lap in an attempt to regain their correct positions.
This is against UKGTR rules.
Drivers are reminded that overtaking on the formation lap is forbidden.

  • Mark J (Mark Jonzo)penalty — Overtaking on formation lap. — 0 places lost
  • Pedro[PL]penalty — Overtaking on formation lap. — 0 places lost

Server replay time: 370s

Truetom rear ends RichA at the Imola chicane. RichA is forced off the track into the gravel.

  • Truetom (truetom)penalty — Rear end shunt. — 2 places lost
For advice only - unreported by victim, so penalty disregarded

Server replay time: 490s

PaulW has spun and unfortunately Fozz collides with him on the start/finish straight.
PaulW had waited until the road was clear before turning the car around.
Fozz approaches the incident at speed at collides with PaulW.

Server replay time: 660s

Mo has spun on the exit from Chateau d'Eau. Blaz exits the corner and runs straight into Mo.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 686s

Mo is still getting to grips with his car after the earlier spin and drifts to the inside line possibly blocking Mario Gama.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 1156s

Codsworth has run wide at T1, hits the tyre barrier and rejoins the track in front of 3 cars.

All 3 cars were forced to take evasive action or collided with Codsworth.

Server replay time: 1783s

Mo has just passed Truetom, brakes to early, gets his line all wrong and drifts into Truetom's path.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 2011s

RichA has just lapped Fozz who drifts to his right; there is slight contact between the two.

  • Racing incident

There is a very specific clause in the rules which says
Quote
The driver shall not attempt to regain their original starting position.
Whilst it's obviously very unfortunate that GTR has stuffed a few drivers up big stylee with the grid slots, we don't want people trying to pass cars who may be busy weaving to warm up tyres and not watching their mirrors.

Just hope I kept it fair.  I was right on the edge mate, another lap and you would have had me.  Talk about intense, I was complety shatered after those last few laps.  What with trying to catch Pedro and keeping you behind me, I was almost at the point of letting you past just for a rest. Wink

LOL I dont think letting ppl past is in the racing blood.
Anyway everything was more than fair -you defended perfectly and I wasn't going to try anything mad with the state of my tyres.
Some of the best racing I've enjoyed online, Cheers.

.. when I think of a track I pick over taking places and promise not to try overtaking on any other turn. For Mangy it's the hairpin only!! Any other turn and it will be forced and probably unfair.

I strongly disagree here. At Magny overtaking is possible (sorted by increasing difficulty level):

Difficulty 0%

Adelaide (hairpin) - just choose early apex running close to the left kerb, turn hard and accelerate at full throttle asap to overtake before Nurburgring

Difficulty 15%

Estoril - start wide then go extremely tight. Most drivers leave lots of space on the inside here, and hence outside is very slippery the chance of overtaking is great here!

Difficulty 30%

180 - great overtaking place. Just push your opponent hard by Nurburgring, then run a little wide, steer directly at the apex, outbrake your opponent and accelerate at full throttle in 2nd gear towards Grande Coubre. As outside part of this corner is more slippery than the inside and it is perfectly manageable to overtake there..

Difficulty 50%

Chateaux d'Eau - tricky place to overtake, but possible if your opponent tends to brake late and use classic racing line. Choosing early apex and cutting deep into the kerb does the trick here. One difficulty is the kerb height, but keeping your wheels straight while riding them does not compromise stability. Hence the early brake point.

Difficulty 80%

Lycee - overtaking possible On the SF line. Many drivers (including me) has problems with accelerating out of this corner and it is possible to overtake by carrying high exit speed.

If you object any of the above please send me a PM and I will show you all the maneuvers above on the replay.

After overtaking you I've decreased peace a bit as my race time was -20s to the first place and there was no reason to risk. But I've found it very difficult to keep my concentration and quickly my comfortable 2s lead over you shrunk to 0,7s by the last lap Smiley My thought were: "damn, once again I'm going to loose great place" and "ok. maybe I'll let him go and finish third without risk" Cheesy

True. The problem is that it is the first time technical difficulty of this kind appeared (at least in my UKGTR career). Of course everyone should know the rules, but hence there is no team mate i pits who can inform you quickly on the rule in rare situations like this it is hard to expect people to know every single rule by heart. I guess for future race one of the moderators taking part could have quick-chat info prepared for this occasion, so he could quickly remind all drivers of the rule.

Of course, not knowing the rules is not an explanation here, but I think we should consider this one time an learning experience.

Nice idea Pedro but completely impossible to implement.  As the division moderator I was aware something odd was happening on the formation lap, however being towards the front of the grid I couldnt see what was going on at the back.  Besides I have enough difficulty keeping my car on the road without worrying whats going on 15 places behind me  Smiley
Just to confirm, all drivers should make themselves fully aware of the rules.

Impossible with quick-chat. What about TeamSpeak? In my home league we use TS for such occasions. No chit-chat wile driving, just important information. Of course it requires some bandwith, but not that much anyway.

I've tried hard to keep the number of rules which have to be remembered and which aren't common sense down to a bare minimum.

True. I like UKGTR rules a lot. After rethinking - I guess it is fine as it is. I guess reading rules from time to time is not that bad idea either. EOT for me.

Yeah Pedro, I hear what your saying about overtake on sf str8. Push to hard out of the chicane and you will almost certainly spin, tough spot to get by. As for the rest of your overtake strategy I agree entirely. Shark pulled the Estoril pass on me last week in NGT sprint, gr8 move, I will of course, now have that door covered.  Wink

Hi Guys not a bad outing for me Wanted to start a back as have decided to use 550 from now on. I could not belive it at the start when about 4 or five cars decended upon me they were jumping to and fro on top of each other at times,, then to my horror they started to overtake on the warm up lap . Were thes real cars I thought or just a mirage one could drive through. It aparently turned out they were real (how did they end up in that situation) so a good job we at the rear treated them as real and did not drive through them as we did a barcelona when the same car was sitting stationary at every corner. Could I ask that drivers when coming back though the field after a stop for new rubber give the drivers on old rubber room to brake . It is no good diving in front and jumping on the brakes as they are not going to stop. I had occasion to visit the gravel for aviodence at least once. A good race for me 10th with a iffy set up , I was running with the 9th 8th and seventh when avoiding a car spinning down the main straight I sort of lost the plot and was left behind. I had some good fun anyway . bye for now gerald
