It's on to the desert sands of Tunisia for the penultimate race of the season. A first time circuit for UKGPL it offers a, nearly, eight mile speed fest. Al H has a cushion in the Works but he can't get too comfy yet whilst, over in the Privates, things are close at the top with Vos, Mike and Billy all contenders.

Race List = IGOR
Server = UKGPL_T7_2
IP address = 62.149.202.168
Race date = 25-07-2010
Time = 21:00 UK time
Track = Carthage 1935 (Grand Prix of Tunis)
Variant = 67F1
Damage Model = PRO
Qualifying time = 35 minutes. Don't start until 30 mins left on clock to allow everyone to join.
Race length = 50 minutes (laps 16)

Password: see above

Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page
The track can be downloaded from : http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=1436
Add-on’s available at : n/a

Please be in IGOR UKGPL chatroom by 8:50 pm UK Time

Reserve drivers should not join the server until there are only 30 minutes of qualifying left. Please restrict chat to pit messages. Moderating will be by reported incidents only, however the moderators reserve the right to review any incident with a particular emphasis on lap one. The aim is to review the race the following weekend so incident reports should be submitted within five days of the race (ie the following Friday). We're hopeful most incidents can be resolved amicably and recommend a days deep breath with a replay review before posting. A sorry in the forum won't be taken as an automatic admission of guilt by the moderators.

With the token system chassis strategy will be a factor. A driver must have sufficient tokens for the chassis he drives in the race.  Any driver who does not have sufficient tokens will be disqualified from the result and his tokens will be set to zero.

Chassis costs;
Lotus 20 / Eagle 17 / Ferrari 15 / Brabham 10 / Cooper 5 / Honda 3 / BRM 0

To see your current tokens hover your mouse over your total points on the championship standings page. Ten tokens will be added when you cross the start line.

The Championship is split into two sub-divisions, namely Works and Privateers. The driver split will be;

WORKS drivers

67 Patch: The 1.3 Release of the 67mod can be used.

NOTE: In the event of enough entrants a second grid will be run for the Privateers on ukgpl.5. (ping myjamesonline.net) Instructions will be provided in the chatroom – please ensure you join the correct server, due to the way we import if you start the race on the wrong server your result will not count. If you can try to make sure you are in the chatroom by 8.50pm this will enable a decision without any delays to the start time.

Between 1928 and 1955 the Grand Prix of Tunis hosted nine events. Races were originally staged in Bardo before moving to Carthage from 1931 to 1937. The 1935 race was held on 5 May being the first Formula Libre event of the season. It was won by Achille Varzi in the Auto Union Type B.

Had my first practice run in my lunch break today on the game pad - I'm expecting high attrition rates  Grin

That said it's a nice circuit once you get the hang of where it's going  Cool

Arghh! Trust GPL to completely lock up in time for a league race, never ever does that usually.  Angry

Hope I didn't cause any pile up during my unspectacular exit.

Hope you had a good race all, starting to wish I could've gone for an Eagle now, I was lapping 1.57s in practice. Smiley

See you all at the Glen hopefully!

The curse of my internet connection strikes again. For some reason it decided to cut out entirely for two minutes, when the qualifying session finished! Shame about that, though I didn't have the pace of the frontrunners. Still, it would have been good fun hauling the BRM around Carthage for the rest of the race. Time for Loot and his men to pack their bags and rejoin the next race stronger than ever!  Roll Eyes

Sorry Goran.  Under pressure from Bob and Steve so I went wide on the Esses bit (don't know what it's called).  Thought I'd got it under control and edged back towards the track but I did a downshift and I lost control and spun back onto the track taking out Goran.  Very sorry about that, I should have backed off a bit more but I was worried about getting bogged down in the sand Sad.

Second so pleased and WD Ronnie on a perfect drive - no chance of catching you. And WD to us both for being the only finishers in what felt like an endurance race.
A long race of attrition but no spins and still in with a shout at the top spot so a good race for me, was pleased to see the chequered flag though.

PS: sorry re confusing you all with the Teamspeak server - a slip of the mouse with the guys we share it with.

very exciting in lead with H betwen 50 and 250 yards behind me. then with 5 laps to (the gap increased after been close to contact after 6-7 laps)I go wide and spin in the fast righthander that comes after the slow righthander. must see replay to understand what I did. tried to provoke to go out there after the race but didn t no matter what angle I entered.luckily I ve stopped smashing things( I have a hole in the wall I made after going out in indycar2 mid ninetees)but I can forget about sleeping. gz with confident driving H

I'm frustrated by my own lack of performance in the race. I didn't get anywhere near my practice times & made mistakes where I'd never previously screwed up - no idea what was wrong with me but I had the pace to do better Undecided

Another poor start by me but a plethora of lap 1 retirements elevated me to 3rd behind Tom & Hristo. Was pushing to catch them & somehow outbraked myself at T2 - was very fortunate to survive a brush with the barrier but that dropped me down to 6th & I set off in pursuit of Rick & Clive. Passed Rick when he spun & then had a very enjoyable battle with Clive until he too had a minor mishap which allowed me through into 4th. I managed to reduce the gap to Bartosz in 3rd & finally caught up with him, but then made a stupid mistake at the fast left-hander towards the end of the lap which dropped me back again. Pushed hard to catch Bart once more but I guess I was pushing a bit too much as the engine blew up with a couple of laps left. That was extra annoying as I'd practised with PRO settings & not lost one engine.

Congrats to H - 4th win in a row is pretty devastating form. WD also to Bart & Evil for the podium. Gutted for Tom who seems to be turning into our own Chris Amon with the kind of luck he has while leading a race  Sad

Judging by previous posts and the number of retirements, my opinion of this circuit was correct.
I struggled to get a fast setup for the Waza and was a good 3-4 secs off the pace with my best laps, but I was sure that this circuit was one of those that would punish any error,so decided from very early testing that survival was going to be my tactic.

I'm not sure if it is the long straight sections followed by corners that invite you to try and carry more speed than is prudent, or the slippery surface, but in testing I found it sooo easy to stuff the car into the bales at T2 or run wide onto the sand on the fast sweeps.
I set up deliberately high ratios in the gearbox and was careful to avoid stressing the Wazaturbine, in fact 1st gear was so high that I figured my riskiest moment would be getting off the line!! but it gave me a safe 1st gear for T2 on full race fuel ( later in the race when the huge fuel load had reduced I was taking that in 2nd).
At the start the "Wild Bunch" vanished into the heat haze and as I knew it would take a couple of laps to coax my tyres up to temp, I followed Mr Nauman (who had geared his non Waza Honda for some serious speed on the straights!!) for a few laps until he made a mistake and gave me the opportunity to get the inside line into T2.
Cars dropped out ahead and I slowly climbed the leader board. I spotted Al rejoining the circuit after a quick sand castle building break and held him at bay for a few laps. But, it was obvious that his Eagle was a few seconds a lap quicker that I was prepared to push for and eventually I screwed up the entry to the last hairpin and ran wide allowing him through.
It looked like the cars in front were settled into their places and 5th was as good as it was going to get Undecided with about 6 laps to go. Then Al dropped off the radar and I was 4th, but Hristo and Tom were out of sight and Bart was too far in front to mount any sort of challenge. I was running last of the 4 cars still in it and almost quit, but pride in HER car made me look to finish the race and prove what superb machines her two Wazas were.  Roll Eyes
Last lap and I see what looks like a camel limping across the track in the distance, but it turned out to be a wounded Eagle with Tom on board just half a lap from the finish!! At first i thought he was recovering from a spin and that his pace would keep him in 3rd. But it seems he had more serious problems and he pulled over to let me pass and pick up the last podium spot, which made it 2 wazas on the podium Grin Grin Grin. far better result than I had hoped for and some valuable ponts for the team champs!! Wink

Grats to Hristo and Bart, and hard luck Tom after a great race for the lead.
