Hi all,

I've come up with this configuration, which features hyperthreaded dual core processor, 2 Gb RAM and 1 Gb graphics and fits my budget quite nicely.

It would appear that onboard sound cards don't work well with iRacing so I will use my sound card from previous computer. I'm thinking of getting one two more Gig of RAM (no 1Gb chips available) which I could get for getting rid of peripherals and having a smaller disk (noo need for 500 Gb on  a dedicated machine).

What do you think of it?

Thx, Kruger

Intel Core i3 530 2.93GHz 4MB L3 cache, BOX, 2cores/4threads, LGA1156
ECS P55H-CM(1.0) LGA1156, Intel P55, DDR3 1333MHz, 6xSATA2, GLAN, 6-ch Audio
PQI DDR3-1333 2GB PC3-10600
WD 500GB SATA2 HDD 7200rpm
ATI Radeon HD 5450 1GB Silent DDR3, Core 650MHz, Memory 1000MHz, DirectX 11, PCIe 2.1, D-Sub, DVI, HDMI, passive cooler
MidiTower Codegen 6240-A11 500W 24pin, SATA, Front 2xUSB and Audio

Looks pretty good, heard good things about the i3's. Not sure about ECS motherboards, they used to be quite good in the old days. My only concern would be the graphics card. I thought the 5450 were primarily designed for doing very little, like in HTPC. I dont beleive they would cope with anything 3d.

I have a ati 4890 which i think you can pick up for around 80-90 pounds nowadays. That runs anything i can throw at it at 1920-1200

I had a quick Google and it looks like the 5450 is no worse than the 6200 was. Personally I'd want to invest in a 5750 at minimum, though iRacing doesn't make much use of modern video acceleration features doing most of it on the CPU.

You should certainly consider 4GB of RAM if you want replays that aren't truncated to the last few laps.

I only have 2 GB and I get all the replay for our races.

Mark and Dave, thx for pointing that out. 5750 is worth more than two 5450s but replacing it at this point isn't going to cost too much so I will go with that instead.

The 2 Gb RAM extension will wait a bit, I think I'll manage without it for a while Smiley I have to  Shocked

Cheers all

Also, consider a bigger PSU.  500w may be enough but I'd go 650-700 to be safe.

Darn, the list never stops growing  Cheesy

I'll have to deal with what they give me for the time being and since PC will be on two year guarantee, I can always ask them the change and provide more powerful unit Wink

Is that some bundle I can see somewhere?

I'd be keen to know what is the best PC I can buy for GTR2/iRacing for £500?

Don't know Burt, the distributor has created such configuration and any failure will mean they have to replace the power unit or any component that breaks down because of it so I'm not concerned Smiley

Though i'd imagine if you asked them to change it because you recon'd it might need more they will charge a bit!

Its probably the PSU that comes with the case anyway.

Exactly Mark Wink

If I ask, its on me but if they think its good to handle all that, so be it... whatever breaks will be changed by them and I can always be a frustrated customer and receive a better component (a better GPU i.e.) just to keep it quiet Wink

Oh, sorry, I didn't put any link, just referred to the configuration I posted, which is the best you can get for 500 quid.

I didn't think link would do you any good since its not in English and I'm not in UK Smiley
