I'm sure it would take iR out of my PC's reach, but that shouldn't impact it going ahead if the majority want it.
I so need a new pc Roll Eyes

They've said night racing will only have minimal impact on FPS (if any).

I guess we'll see!

Looks good.

I'm now watching the review of the steadiplay wheelstand. They keep going on how study the thing is, yet in every video the thing is shaking all over the place.

$360 for some MDF, no thanks.

It doesn't look like real night time racing, which is why there is probably no FPS change. As far as I can tell it's a night sky instead of a day one and fixed fake lights "shining" from the track side. It will be track specific and they won't be able to apply it to other tracks without drawing the other tracks in "night-o-vision" too.

iRacing as far as I can tell still doesn't have proper lighting effects so until they rewrite the graphics engine to be a bit more 21st century and a bit less 20th century with modern real lighting effects you'll just have this faux night-time stuff.

I don't think iRacing has heard of DX8, let alone DX9, DX10 or DX11 as this is still the same old, shabby looking graphics engine with tweaks as was used by NR2003.

Well, if you don't like the look of it that's fair enough but iRacing is definately running under DX9.

My favourite is how they have made the build of a Frex Simwheel out to be extremely difficult and managed to get the sim community to believe this when the wheel is actually assembled and its less than five minutes to build the wheel adapter. They make such a thing out of it both in their review and all Darrin's subsequent posts about wheels I've seen, still got to help ECCI sell their wheels somehow I suppose.

The debate they have in this episode about how to pronounce Tyrrell is somewhat bemusing.

Night racing looks good.

Yes it's running under DX9, but they're barely making use of it. It's DX7 code running under DX9 I think.

It's a shame cause the artwork and realism of the textures is pretty good, but it just looks all so flat and old.

I agree Simon, I hope when they have finished the work on moving the sound to a third core they finally get around to building a modern graphics system. Given the realism of the tracks, the decent models and textures with modern techniques iRacing should look superb and have a lighter footprint than it does now.

Its the best sim out there imho but it does look very dated.

No they aren't. I don't think they've ever promised that either.

They're saying the collision detection model will be improved which only one part of the overall solution Undecided

So many things to improve in the damage model still.  Smiley

Collisions detection is generally good enough imho and they should focus on some of the areas regarding damage that need improving (in order of importance):
1) Modelling damage to aero-parts.
2) Fixing the problem that cars can crash headlong into a barrier at 100mph and carry on like it didn't happen. People talk about the damage model being harsh, but halibut me, you get away with massive crashes in iRacing!
3) Repairing repairable damage in pits.
4) Leaving debris behind and not magiking it away.
5) Breaking glass.

5) Breaking glass.

Who needs it? Will You? Only on The Eighth Day. If Only everything else was fixed first.

I will need it at the same time as I need working wiper blades. Wink

Although having said that, having things like glass or bodywork that can cause punctures or damage to your car would be pretty neat. Grin
