I had a strange experience.
My qualifying was really slow compared to what I had practiced although it felt like I was moving at a good pace. I was shocked to see my times and I had one chance to try again and I moved up two positions to 5th almost three with no time left.
I was in the start sequence and I could not select any gears! Something is not configured properly because I was doing fine in the practice server and the qualifying or I had a delay and the server might have been busy dropping cars in and would have selected my gears eventually? I don't know.
So disappointed.

Has this happened to anybody else because I would not want to miss Watkins Glen.

Hannah,
Had a similar problem at Mosport where I couldn't engage first gear on the starting grid. It came back after a few seconds later. Only ever happened the once.
As far as the race was concerned it's somehow comforting to blame the server connection, rather than my driving. The server lost me about 3 laps in, continued for another 3 or 4 until I got a disco. Quallified P3, Ronnie & Vos were a class apart but I had a reasonable gap over 4th. Took the Lotus for a change but found it very temperamental off the start line. Mike nipped ahead off the line but I slipped past when he span on Lap 2. Was hoping for a 3rd palce (barring any incidents) but my connection had other ideas.
Off on hols tomorrow & will miss the Glen. Although turn outs were a bit thin I have greatly enjoyed the Privateers this season - thanks for the racing.

I didn't have much hope for this race after realizing that we're racing Carthage 1935 and not 1936 which I had installed and had experience with some time ago in oAo, with Ferrari.

By the time I downloaded and installed the correct version there were just 20 minutes left, so I copied over my Spa setup, adjusted some gears a bit to space them out more evenly and went off to try and figure out the track in the reminded of the session.

There was no point going cautiously so I took full advantage of the fact that we can esc-enter and restart during Qualifying. I kept crashing on each of my first few attempts, especially at T1 and T2. That helped me to test the gears though and I made some further adjustments.

On my last run I managed to set and then improve my lap time, but it was not a match for the pace of the Tim and Tom duo. Setting 1st gear for the start was tricky as I wanted it long enough for the last corner, but short enough to make a good start. As it appeared, I set it more for the corner...

Dropped down the revs too early on the start, despite reacting quickly as the green flag fell. That left Evil with no room to go behind, so I could see him lifting up while waiting for me to pick up speed. All that allowed Bob to line up alongside on the right and we went into T1 like that.

I braked a bit later and opted for the outside line. I think I left enough room but saw Bob spinning under breaking very close to my car; I assume he braked a bit too deep while turning in and the fact that he had to stay inside to avoid hitting me was the cause of his spin.

By the time Tim and Tom were more than a second ahead, but then Tim went into the wall and I was up to 2nd. From there on it was a very tough chase on Tom who was driving superbly and his Lotus had the upper hand on acceleration, so I was losing time out of every corner and my only chance was to take big risks on corner entry and trying to get the power down as soon as possible.

This lasted for the majority of the distance and the gap between us fluctuated between 1-2 seconds. It was quite intense as every little mistake led to and increase or decrease of the gap, so we were trying to balance between taking risks and being consistent.

I had a big moment at the esses in the middle of the races - braked a bit too late for the right hander there, lost the rear and just as I was about to spin around, the rear left wheel touched the wall and that straightened up the car, so I lost just about a second to Tom.

I thought I lost my chances right there as it was nearly impossible to close up the gap to him, but then he had his spin at the long right hander in the middle of the lap and dropped back. From there on I just kept my pace without taking too much risk, but was worried about the fuel load.

According to my pre-race calculations I had put JUST enough fuel, so I was checking the fuel pressure gauge frequently, but it turned out that I had 19 liters (worth more than 2 laps) of fuel left at the end. That must've cost me some pace in the race, just enough to let Tom snatch the fastest lap by a few hundreds of a second.

Anyway, it was great to win a 4th in a row and I can see why Al is worried - it seems others have bad luck and that works in my favor and against him. It's nice to have the last race decide it all though. Commiseration to Tom for his bad luck, he drove really great before his off and was most likely going to win.

Grats to Evil for making it to the podium - SHE will be pleased!  Grin

I didn't have enough tokens to 'buy' one of the faster cars so had to settle for the Brabham. I managed a good start for a change and  swapped places a few times with Billy and Bookie as a consequence of each others' mistakes. This is a deceptively simple track that bites back if you make a mistake and I eventually ended up in the barrier unable to extricate myself. Still I managed to scrape enough points together to ease myself into second place in the league so it could be an interesting final at Watkins.

I've been having a few problems since reinstalling W7 a few days ago - Pribluda isn't working and I can't get the Logitech profiler to install so no FF and no clutch pedal. Which is a bit strange as they both worked without any problems when I originally installed W7 and GPL is on a separate partion not affected by the re-installation. Hope to have it all sorted before Watkins even if it means another re-installation Sad

L1 was eventful when we went into T2 (or T3 depending how you count it) to find a car stuck in the barrier, never saw a yellow so first thing I saw was the car.  I think it was Phil tried to avoid and I clipped him as we tried to get through the same bit of tarmac together, which sent my car tumbling across the infield, fortunately landing the right way up!  I think Phil got away ok, bit if not, sorry for any delay mate!

That threw any chances of hanging with the faster guys up front but placed me in a nice tussle with Phil, Goran and Bob.  We were all doing a bit of an accordion act when Bob just tagged the back of my car into the final hairpin after a server induced cloaking device kicked in.  We got through OK but a little down on Phil.

If I recall, Bob got through after I ran wide and chased Phil down.  Phil ran wide at the esses and had a bit of a mare on rejoin collecting Goran, which was a shame as it could have been a race long too and fro.  Bad luck guys.

With not a lot to lose I pushed and tried to re-catch Bob and seemed to be making a little progress until I ran wide a T1 and went into the concrete sticky out bit; the car stayed in one piece again but the engine cried enough, I tried to carry on with a lovely plume of black smoke trailing, to see if it might by some miracle clear itself but about a mile or so on it gave out in total.

WD Podium and finishers.

Thanks Vosblod for your kind words and congrats for tightening your grip on the championship. I knew If I got ahead at the start I had a chance. In the final few laps just when I thought I might fall asleep at the wheel a Honda appeared in the the middle of the track and that certainly woke me up to hang on for the win.

Interesting circuit, which I seemed to make a bit of progress on but in the end was way off the pace.  I decided to stick with the trusty brabham safe in the knowledge I'd be at a disadvantage on the long straights!?  Had a good start but lost it a few corners later and rejoined last.  It was fun catching & battling with Goran, Steve and Phil, had some lag or summat and accidentally tagged Steve into the hairpin, sorry about that.

In the end my power settings turned off my monitor and I stacked it before it powered back-up.  At the time I wasn't too disappointed because I was the last runnerin 6th and couldn't catch Clive, but I have since read about the other retirees, so suppose there may have been a chance of 4th!!

probably wasnt a good place for a comeback race!

Only got gpl sorted after some problems with it...

Got it all tested and patched in time, at least I know it all works ok now..

As for race, I hadnt practice and knew it was going to be tough, 2nd lap as well i went off at last corner as its a tight right hit the wall, and couldnt get out, race over...

Planning a much better time at Watkins Glen, one of my favourite tracks! Smiley

I suppose its good to be back, maybe not up to speed, but at least practice for next season!

I only done 1 65 novice race in May, but September 2009 last time i race competitively and funny enough that was at Watkins Glen  Cheesy

Well, not that much to say really. I only got tokens for a Ferrari or Brabham, well of cause the Honda but me and the Honda does not play so well together, besides my attempt was to  finish the race and I my preconceptions were that the most reliable car is the Brabham so the Brabham it was.

Not trying too hard in quali, did not want to get in the way of the frontrunners   Wink, so 10th on the grid was just fine. Staying alive was my plan so I did not really want any car behind to start with, well it did not really work but I made sure that no one would have too big problems to get past me. Anyway it all went fine for some laps and people in front disappeared as would be expected. But of cause there is allways the unexpected, this time it was Phil that thought it was Dakar sand rally we were doing and the pressision when our path crossed were so great that it had to be destiny, and what can you do about destiny so end of race and no hard feelings Phil.

Grats to H and the podium, and I wonder Al and KH, did your misfortune has anything to do with teem orders?

We found out how to combine the races in one thread and sometimes we run joint grids.
