I just returned from San Francisco and popped into this thread. I wasn't intending on running the chicane (no inner loop). I should have been more clear. The chicane is also known as the inner loop for this track. Since it looks like all have been practicing that way we'll leave it in. Back in the day, when these cars thundered around the track, the chicane didn't exist. When you get a moment, you should try the version offline that doesn't use the chicane. Braking for the banked right at the end of the long straight is a hoot in these cars.

For my money, don't worry about changing the circuit if it gets rid of that poxy chicane.  We shouldn't use tracks with joke features like that one.  I have never raced on it but cannot imagine how you are supposed to follow another car when you can't see where the deadly concrete has got to!

Who ever put the chicane in in real life should be strung up.  IMHO   Grin

Can you run the proper track tonight?

i'd second taking that chicane out of the equation. Not on the grounds of making it easier, but in previous races we have had with it, the silly un-natural effect those kerbs have on these cars causes someone to lose it in a pack and creates chaos with multiple cars KO'd. So not worth using it really, am sure we would all rather blast up and through that banked off camber corner  Smiley
My one concern is that it may play even more into the hands of the vettes which already seem way quicker than the lovely fezza around here  Sad

Mike, have you tried this track?
This GPC version only has the one circuit & the chicane is at T2 (the esses) not at the top of the hill after the long straight.

This GPC version just doesn't really work with mixed car racing. For example, the Vette (which is already the faster car) can just ride the chicane (making it the easier car too), while the F275 has to be ultra careful & still might lose it into the barrier Roll Eyes
So all the Vette drivers will come steaming through while the F275's are lifting/braking & BANG! Race over.

It's only the Italian Vettes that take the chicane like that.   Angry

Had a little go tonight, best i can do with 20L on board is 1:10.3   and 1:11s for the race....Oh and that is with a do or die approach to the chicane, wouldn't want to be doing that in the race.

Just tried the Vette for the first time, great car, but...... best I can manage in it is 2.15 so I guess I will be running around at the back on my own. Still just driving it puts a smile on your face after those horrible Porsches with weird steering & brakes! Grin Sorry just couldn't face driving those in the last 2 races, no fun at all.

Well it looks like I've failed the group again. I prepared these races during the preseason testing writing notes along the way (track, cars, lap times, etc...). I wrote GPC in my notes, but tested the Dutch Devil track. In fact, I do a lot of car testing using the Dutch Devil version of Watkins Glen, but never really looked carefully at the fact that it was the Dutch Devil version vs. the GPC version.

My testing with the Dutch Devil version produced the following results on full tanks
2:10.2 in the Ferrari 275 GTB
2:11.1 in the George Robertson Z06

I now understand Legzy's concern regarding cars launching over the chicane. I can see how that might be possible. While I do prefer the version without the chicane, I hesitate to change to the Dutch Devil version so close to race time. So many people practiced with the GPC version. The Dutch Devil version is easier to drive and isn't much different. Should we change to the Dutch Devil version this late in the game? Normally I wouldn't even consider it, but based on the problems from this track in the past, I'm thinking it may be a wise idea.

I'll be around to mangle the grid tonight.

LOL  Even Legzy used to give us more than two hours notice.

Think you will have to leave it as it is Mike.  There could be people who do not read this forum on a regular basis and they will turn up with seconds to spare and the wrong track loaded if you try to change it.

Is there a prize for the first bloke to clear the Armco?

See you later.

Yes. You get to choose the car/track combo for an event in the mid-season break.

thats got to be my shortest P&G race ever  Angry

got a good start off the line, got down the inside at T1, albeit having to lean on someone beside me as it understeered, but then got walloped from behind which span me round facing the entire approaching grid pack. Got hit about 7 times by cars with no way of avoiding me and was left with huge body damage and 95% suspension fubar'd. Crabbed up the road in last place to the zebra chicane where it promptly spat my ruined car into the armco. End of.

What a waste of a couple of hours practise this week. Roll Eyes
