oooh...Le Mans...who's the daddy

will be jumping on the server around 7'ish if anyone cares to join me for some early praccy  Smiley  (assuming the server has it on that is)?

Should have had some special rules for this epic event, like double points, drivers have to complete xx% of race for points etc to promote a decent grid attendance, like they do in the real world of racing for these show case rounds of a championship.

Hope we have a great turn out and classic race. Smiley

This race is actually going to require some self discipline for some/all of the drivers.

This track is the old 'no-chicanes' extra-very-very even longer straight. You can muller your engine if you choose to sit in the red in sixth gear. You'll probably get away with it the first time, maybe even the second, but you've all been warned.

Don't come crying to me (MJ Wink) when your race ends early due to steam & oil coming out your bonet! Tongue

well, you boys best get your racing boots on and get some laps in here !  Its a tricky track to get the setup spot on with its mixture of extreme low downforce areas for the long straights followed by some definite downforce needed for the back section and chicanes.

I tried both a low d/f 1-4 wing and a medium d/f 2-6 combo and set exactly the same lap times  Tongue what i gained on the straights i lost in the curves with the 1-4 and vice-versa for the 2-6.
I think we will all need to turn the revs down a notch or two if you want your engines to last. Even with the whick turned down a couple of notches i was still suffering upto 10% engine damage over 4 laps at full throttle. Top speed 191mph in the C6  Shocked (tho Motec said it was 194mph!)

First benchmark for you lot to aim at = 3:33.083 so far. I saw an AI 550 do a 3:30 but other GT1 cars were around late 32/33 mark.

Please report times and top speeds back on here as its hard to know where you stand for a track that we dont use enough in my opinion. Smiley

Tried 2-6 and longest 6th, 1 bar red at 309 km/h, 1% engine health cost / lap, soft/hard combo. Would like a longer 6th, though... Undecided 3:35 and I'm never good on this track. Keep practicing, MJ. Wink

Sounds like its not about speed but making the engine last.

why?..i am already 2 secs a lap quicker than you here  Kiss  but will be putting more laps in for sure.  Smiley

Yes, not sure if its a problem with the 'tweaked' GT1 cars but would have thought a 6th gear long enough to not redline should have been achievable?? There is something wrong with the rev range for the C6 and the F430GTC actually as both of them have revs set much higher than they are supposed to have for their ideal bhp/torque range according to the showroom stats. Tried the C5 out here though and it has same gear range so still redlines. I did wonder if we are supposed to add enough wing to stop it redlining  Undecided but that would surely go against the racing grain.

just pumped in some 1:35 race laps with full fuel and meds. Still testing.  Smiley

Not the 1979-85 version then? Is it Philrobs 1970 version?

I had a quick half hour last night on this track and managed a 3.35s in race trim with full tanks, although I didn't get in a totally clean lap so there may be more. My C6 had the same engine wear rate and speed as yours, MJ.

Just a thought about the start procedure; are we doing a formation lap as normal? I'm guessing that would probably take about 5 mins, which would eat into 8% of the race!

Really looking forward to this as my last race here, in the PnG 3hour special we ran last xmas, was probably my favourite ever online race. This place just oozes atmosphere. Any chance of more races like that?

Oozes atmosphere? Ok, I guess this is the positive side. Negative? The track is plain and boring and stands out of otherwise excellent (GT1) track choices in this season. Mexico 1988, Istanbul, Brno, Mugello, Dijon Prenois, Sepang, Montreal, Oschersleben, ... Any of them would fit better in here. IMHO this track brings more atmosphere in PnG.

are you mental?  Roll Eyes  this place is the schnizzle ! ...and you rate Brno higher?!!... laugh

Granted the Mulsanne straight can get a 'tad' tedious (if you find motoring a 190mph GT1 whilst drafting or being drafted boring that is...we were 3 abreast in a p&G race!) but the rest of the track and the lap as a whole is a pure racing challenge. Plus it oozes atmos  Cool  Imagine using that tasty GTweb car set here with the LMP classes...phewee.

still not sure what the ideal wing combo is here. My fastest lap times are set with 2-6 and yet the 1-4 combo 'seems' quicker though the times disprove it, plus i have more 'moments' with the 1-4 option. What are you other guys using so far? (all in the interests of close racing you understand  Wink )
