Silverstone is built on the site of a World War II bomber base, RAF Silverstone, which opened in 1943. The track hosted the first F1 championship race in 1950. The British Grand Prix has been permanently held here since 1987 although it is due to switch to Donnington Park in 2010. The airfield's three runways, in classic WWII triangle format, lie within the outline of the present track. The first two races were held on the runways themselves, with the 1949 International Trophy switching to the perimeter track. This arrangement was used for the 1950 and 1951 Grands Prix. In 1952 the start line was moved from the Farm Straight to the present Finish Straight, and this layout remained largely unaltered for the following 35 years. Since 1975 the track has been modified with the introduction of chicanes etc – we are using the 1960’s layout.

I'm going to have to bail on tonight I'm afraid. Seem to have gained a massive bloot shot in my right eye and will doubtless stress it too much in GPL  Sad

Should see you all on Tuesday, have fun  Smiley

All good fun for about 30 seconds before a spinner in Becketts ruined what little chance I had of gaining the pack. Struggled to get any sense out of the Honda on full tanks and cold tyres and eventually pulled off at Club.

Everyone knows that million-to-one chances happen 9 times out of 10. Why the hell do I keep crashing then?!

Good fun that while it lasted. For once I managed to achieve a consistent frame-rate, albeit at a 640x480 resolution, which made it rather difficult to spot the braking zones  Grin. Truth be told I was miles off the pace, as I just couldn't get to grips with the pedals thanks to the new footwear I was using. Also my shifter kept playing up whenever I selected 5th gear which didn't help either. I must find some thinner-souled shoes to stop pressing two pedals at once by accident  Roll Eyes.

The race wasn't too bad, profiting off others' mistakes but being overtaken soon after. Eventually Tim was chasing me for a couple of laps and I braked too late into Stowe losing the back end. A few laps later I did the same thing at Becketts only to flip the car, race over.

Still, it was nice to have a trouble free race as far as frame-rates go. Now I think I'll try once again to race at the incredible resolution of 1280x800. Wish me luck  Wink.

A strange race but fun.
Just about to get a new PB in qually but someone stretched their chassis across the whole S/F line - no worries as I was happy where I stood.
Then I got an engine blow-out right at the start  Shocked Luckilly I managed to grip the armco and didn't cause a pile up.
After that got to 5th and Tom KH was slowly closing so did many laps trying to slow the closing gap then bing bam wham another engine failure so Tom was through and I was left with a clear run to middle of the pack.
Anyway PB and the event sort of indicated I might have some fun when I move up to Works so a good evening...

Finally got my new pc up and running with GPL. Everything seem a bit different and strange, but it s very smooth. I had a great start and held the lead for like one and one half lap. I had H behind me and considering his fast qual I was surprised he didn t come flying past me. instead he came flying through me during brakedown after the long straight and I was in the wall. Waited for the hole field to pass and had good fun trying to catch up after a shift-r. Exciting trying to catch up Vos and I was pressing hard during the last half of the race...so hard that I had a spin and lost 4-5 very valuable seconds. 5 th was granted to me anyway since Vos engine blew up Smiley.

Sorry, Tom, I really didn't expect you to brake so much earlier there, especially in the Lotus. I started braking earlier just in case, but it still wasn't enough to avoid clipping your rear. I'll keep it in mind for the future.

As for my race, I had some good fights while making up the lost places after the collision. Eventually my rear tires overheated so much that it led to a couple of spins, so it took a while to get back to the leader who turned out to be Juha Halli from oAo.

I was just setting up to get him on the final straight on the last lap, but made a mistake in the previous 2 corners and dropped back too much, so had to settle for 2nd.

Was pleased to qualify 2nd behind Hristo & inherited the lead after the H-Tom incident. Was then quite surprised to find a very fast Cooper (Juha) harrying my Eagle & did a bit too much mirror-watching which led me to clip a kerb & spin Tongue. That dropped me to 4th & although I managed to catch 3rd place John, too many silly little errors by me plus a backmarker spinning right in front of my path meant I never got another chance to challenge for the podium & finished 4th. Still, an enjoyable & useful warmup for S20.

Not a bad idea that; it can't be much worse than the canoes I was using yesterday  Roll Eyes.
