Damn those races were hectic! The 65s were great fun. I made a poor start but kept making places as the laps went bay, challenging for the lead with a lap to go. However, I took a risky route around the outside of John at Ascari and it ended in disaster with both our races ruined. Apologies for that John; I was a touch foolish.

The 66 race was just something else. It seems my laptop just can't cope with the 66s graphics and I had major FPS problems on the straight and ended up spinning on the main straight when someone piled into the back of me. Apologies to just about everyone there! From then on, it was a relatively quiet race, enjoying a nice battle with Jethro for a few laps, though the amount of casualties seen on the track was staggering  angel.

The 67 race was a complete disaster  Roll Eyes. At the start, I was in the Lotus' blind spot ahead, and we made contact, with me joining in last place. After that, Bill took a shift R on the run down to Ascari but for some bizarre reason, GPL did not notice my car and let Bill rejoin at the exact same point my car was, causing a huge crash. That was enough for me and I quit. It seems with my absence of recent seasons has left my race craft somewhat rusty. No matter, for the next race here's hoping I won't become a hazard to others  Smiley.

Some good close racing on full grids, great fun apart from a few crashes. Personal apology from me for causing one at Para on the last lap of race one.
Sorry if the last minute password caused inconvenience. This event was originally intended as a free for all but so many UKGPL'ers turned up it made sense to give it a password so members would get server priority.

So the results are in and the UKGPL Timelord is Al Heller who painted his tardis red for these races.
Everyone stuck to their correct chassis and the full results were;

1) Al Heller - 85
2) Natan - 64
3) John Roberts - 53
4) Tom King Hero - 48
5) Juha Halli - 41
6) Steve Bird - 34
7) Jethro Walters - 33
8 ) Phil Thornton - 31
9=) Sam Blood - 30
9=) Bob Whitwell - 30
10) Martin Hunt - 28
11) Vlad Vosblod - 27
12) Ronnie Peterson - 26
13) Nigel Smith - 25
14) Bernie Darwin - 24
15) Evil Clive - 16
16) Billy Nobrakes - 15
17) Zak Blito - 14
18) Paul Badblood - 11
19) Tommie Van O - 8

Per my note above. To date we had been getting half grids on the fun races so the intent was to leave it open.
As it turned out we had a full grids worth in chat by 9pm. It is only fair to give members server priority so I put on a password and announced it in chat and left it on the chatroom topic.
Sometimes changes have to be made according to circumstance but everyone in chat prior to the start got to participate.

Perhaps some method of pre empting a full grid situation for future races of this type would save AGRO

e.g. " Password (bla bla bla ) may be required" to enter this race in the event that a full grid turn up  Smiley

Then us late comers (ther's always one ) can get on the grid in time and not get frustrated by being locked out  Roll Eyes

As it happened Clive posted the PW on the last minute , I joined 65's during the gestation period but had to go straight to the start grid , unknowingly with the default set up which we all know is freekin US  Undecided

66 was better cobbled a set up that was OK but then found my new GPL install made Monza look like a completely different track from what I had been used to , the graphics superb , but who moved all the signage on LHS entering Parabolica ? I previously used these as reference marks for braking . My own fault for not trying the track out previous .

67 should have been good,  got a good start but then got rear ended on the drag up to Curva Grand wich demoted me to P last  Undecided
Had fun catching up but a spin somewhere knocked me back again down the order .

At least some of you guys enjoyed decent racing , but lower down the order with so much "gung ho " stuff going on made things no better than the worst kind of Pick Up race.

e.g. " Password (bla bla bla ) may be required" to enter this race in the event that a full grid turn up  Smiley
Then us late comers (ther's always one ) can get on the grid in time and not get frustrated by being locked out  Roll Eyes
Yep that sounds a good idea, will try and remember to do that in future. The downside is that by virtue of needing one due to a full grids worth in chat it might mean anyone turning up late would find the server full up anyway.
It's only an issue in fun races as official season ones are passworded and we have a reserve driver system.

I've not raced the "red cars" much so I thought I'd give them a whirl here... a decision that worked out rather well results-wise, although went down like a lead balloon with the management at Clark-Hill I can assure you! taz A rather fortunate win in race 1, inheriting the lead after picking my way through the debris of two pile-ups & just managing to hold off Juha for the last lap.

Thanks to Vos for organising. It's a great idea for a race & I can't help thinking it'd make an interesting series (perhaps with a rule that you have to use every chassis at least once in a season)

My connection was rather patchy last night - so apologies to anyone else who suffered.
The evening was definitely not short of incident & when I did get the connection working there always seem to be an accident ahead I couldn't quite avoid. Nevertheless did get some reasonable times in qualifying.
Thanks to Vos for organising the event. This was always going to have to be a well known track but even with with only 3 brake points it takes a while to adjust between the different cars. Look forward to trying this format again.

Perhaps some method of pre empting a full grid situation for future races of this type would save AGRO

The other option is not to be late!  Tongue

Perhaps it may be worth issuing a password by default on the race thread, and then if only a few do turn up remove the password option to allow other non-UKGPL in.

Got a lucky 4th in race 1 but race 2 and 3 were pretty lack lustre performances for various reasons of both my own errors and becoming involved in other peoples accidents.

Good fun though, and like the format.

All 3 races were good fun, enjoyed the format and made for some interesting racing.

Race 1: fina****ingly got the hang of the Honda RA272 to post a top time, and was hanging back to avoid pushing myself into any overtake. That let Al through then he ended up dropping back after Natan and he tangled, before Sam and John had a "close moment" at Ascari that the gods conspired I join in with.

Race 2: that Honda RA273 is annoying to drive at times. Tried staying with the top guys after a very-much draft-assisted qualy time, but it didn't come off.

Race 3: rejoins people, rejoins. Think about where other cars can/will be when you put the boot in. After not giving Juha enough room on the inside that put me and the start of the Curva Grande outside barrier on first-name terms. A quick Shift-R and staying out of trouble didn't work when Bob's car went flying across the road into mine. Thought best to quit before I caused any more damage.

Have to echo everyone else's comments, enjoyed it, but quite a bit of carnage.  I had a few spins which caused issues for others, sorry about that.  I have only ever driven 66s once before and found the Lotus 43 to be a bit of a tail happy handful, not sure if that was the setting I downloaded.  Couldn't string much together in the 67s and was over 2 secs off my pb.  Roll-on the start of the season.

Not me Jethro - I was behind you the whole time & only got ahead after you got caught up in the John-Sam tangle. Not sure how I managed to avoid all the debris though!
