Bills interwebs are currently down so I'm posting this up for him via the medium of electronic mail Grin
Over to you Billy:

Round 2 of the Spec Race Championship heads to East London - a bit east & a long way south of “London” - all the way south to South Africa.
Despite often giving close racing it hasn’t been used all that frequently by UKGPL.
Best described as flat & fairly simple to learn but to spice things up we shall be using 1969 cars.

For anyone who is new to the format the event consists of two back to back Intermediate Short races on the same track. Each driver has to drive one car in each race - start whichever you like. Anyone daft enough to drive the same car will be disqualified from race two. This weeks choice of chariot is the BRM & Ferrari.

Spec Races is the only championship with no handicapping - its down to individual driver skill & the ability to cope with different cars.

Races will be run on one grid with one championship table for Season 20.

The Spec Series will be run according to normal UKGPL rules, although only reported incidents will be moderated. (Please file reports by the Friday after race night). Unlimited resets (Shift R) are allowed and you must take a Stop & Go penalty unless another driver or warp was clearly responsible for your misfortune. Stop & Go means coming to a complete halt in (or around) your pit box - please be careful on the rejoin not to impede other cars.  The intention is to be a little less serious than the other championships - have as much fun as you can within the rules.

Race List = IGOR
Server = UKGPL_T7_2
IP address = 62.149.202.168
Race date = 31-10-2010
Time = 21:00 UK time (21:00 GMT)
Track = East London (Available here - Addon available here, although there are more I can't find at present)
Race length = Intermediate Short
Variant = 1969
Chassis = BRM & Ferrari
Damage Model = Intermediate
Qualifying time = 20 minutes [Server will start at 23 mins]

Password: see above

Please be in IGOR UKGPL chatroom by 8:50 pm UK Time = GMT).

I'm afraid I'll have to skip this one as we'll be going out with friends to celebrate Halloween.  Undecided

Any chance to reschedule it?  :'(

EEEEEEEEk!!  well spotted Bernie, I had not twigged that it was 69 mod either.

Was just planning some 65 BRM and fezza laps for tonight as I hardly ever drive those machines, now I may change that plan.  Roll Eyes

Congrats the winners.

For some reason I loose concentration at Rifle Bend and when I miss the turn-in it costs - did it early on in both races putting me at the rump.
Race 1: Dicing with Bill. I felt a bump and saw a spin in my mirrors so a contretemps
Race 2: Nigel was giving it some, but I made it to the line in front

An evenings fun racing.

One day I will get the hang of 69 Mod set ups ~ will also work on not chucking away 2 places in the last turn.
Rather thin turnout tonight but pretty good fum for those who made it. I believe some of our drivers were out frightening small children for Halloween ~ some in fancy dress others just went as themselves.
Results now posted & the championship table is here Spec Race Challenge

That was pure fun , I really enjoyed it pushing these 69th over the asphalt of East London .

Race 1 : my self made BRM setup surely wasn’t a speedy one . but very gentle to drive under race conditions . circumstances lifted me up to 4th , but soon a double time faster Steve was showing up in my mirror . Unfortunately my attempt to serve Steve an pass by at the end of the long straight , did come as sort of surprise . wasn’t clever done by me , sorry Steve .

Race 2 : did need a bit of time to get familiar with Ferrari`s temp again during qualy .
4th on the grid unsuspected and lightyears away from FMG amazing lap time . big hand on that Tim  !   due to slipstream effect I was able to follow Clive on the first couple of laps  .
as he made an slightly mistake at Cocabana I could pass . But at this stage , I could feel my concentration was up to fade away quickly , results in numbers of strange rides over the curbs . pretty sure  Clive was wondering what the heck Ickx is doing there . well , was just a matter of time till I made master mistakes and by 3 laps to go I even did blow up my engine , lol .
anyroads  . it was tremendous fun to me . looking forward to next spec race .

Congratulations to winner , podium ones and all of both races !
And thx Billy for another great spec race .

Do we also get a server replay in the archive, or is it not contemplated for spec challenge races?

The races were good fun, first time out with these mods for me. Got a screen freeze and ensuing disco in race 1, strolled to a lucky 4th just focusing on keeping it on the tarmac in race 2.

I kind of understand why many people didnt show up though, apart from the halloween distraction, these cars seemed to me very wide and difficult to keep on the road under braking, if maybe a bit easier to recover when making a mistake; so maybe not that easy to get clean racing out of it. Good challenge to roll them out for a couple of races a season though, probably the majority of us had to make do with very casual set ups and scant knowledge of the cars themselves!

I think to have made a mistake.I raced the first race of 7 laps ,with the BRM,convinced that it was the first run.I was also satisfied of the third place Grin.not bad for one not so fast like me.The problem was that i had not understood that was not valid race.
In the real first race,with the Ferrari,infortunately the engine exploded any time also in qualification.
Concluding:another race thrown away.

Race 1 was a bit too easy and I had the advantage of the Ferrari over Tim's BRM ( good quali time Tim in that tank!!). As a result of which, once I had got clear of Tim, I sort of cruised to the end. I thought about going for a banzai lap a couple of times,just to see how fast it would go, but there was always a car to be lapped at the wrong spot for me.

Race 2 and I knew Tim would have the advantage in the Fezza. Tom also got his Ferrari ahead of my BRM on the grid and was obviously going well.
Slooted in behind Tim and Tom at the start and although I could keep with Tom, I discovered that I had geared the BRM wrong for the slipstream and was running out of revs on the straight and had to back off to avoid blowing the engine by the time we arrived at T1!! very frustrating.
I got a liitle too close at Cocabana and had to swing wide to avoid rear ending Tom which put me on the grass and allowed nicky to slip through into 3rd.
I made a mistake at T1 and roped a couple of secs back from Nicky but next lap he did the same and I was back up to 3rd. Tom was a long way ahead by now and Tim was just out of sight!!   So I gave it some wellie on the way to the flag just for fun.

69's are great fun but they need a different approach and the time to learn, but good fun and fast when you get it right.
