Race 2: 15 laps

Track: Thruxton Download this

Time of Day Setting: 14:00
Weather: DRY
Start: STANDING

Notes:
(1) It's best if all drivers can make sure they are connected before the Qualifying session as drivers on track during qualifying will not see cars that join after they are on track until they go back to the garage.
(2) Please make sure you are fully aware of the SimRacing.org.uk Rules.
(3) Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page

Special Notes: The grid procedure for Race 07 events is slightly different from GTL/GTR2. Upon joining the grid, you won't be able to rev your engine until all drivers are present on the grid. Do not attempt to esc back to garage or you will be DQ'd.

Gutted that I can't make this one, although I will be around to start server and post results like last week. This should be a blast for the brave with the almost flat Church corner and the difficult braking zone into the chicane  Shocked

The AI were ok in testing, but as ever if you feel they play up too much during pracci/qual and will present a hazard during the race, vote to kick 'em.

Have fun  :'(

Got down to a 1:17.8 tonight. Kept getting up on that in the 1st two sectors, but that final chicane is a regular laptime killer! Shocked

Well, as long as you guys don't go getting loads faster like normal then its nice to have a semi-decent lap time for once! Whether I can stay on for 15 laps is another thing!  Its like driving a trampoline around this track its so bumpy.  Good fun though.

Hope I can make it.

I had a quick go last night on this track and got down to 1.17.2. It's pretty hard stringing together the perfect lap here.

Looking forward to this after my enforced absence from the last Touring Car race.

Its a shame the beemers are so off the pace round here for me, feels nicer with those sudden elevation changes but can only do mid 20's

It's a shame the beemers are so off pace generally as there are so many fwd fans here. I'd presumed Simbin would have produced a reasonably balanced pack of cars for such a flagship product but it appears not.

If we run another series with these cars it might be good to experiment with balancing by weight penalty to have a more even balance between fwd and rwd.

I could (maybe with a little help  Wink) look into doing this for the remainder of this season if we all felt this was a good idea  Undecided

But what's a good car for a newbie to run with?

But what's a good car for a newbie to run with?

When I gave the cars a quick go before the Donnington race, the Honda Accord stood out to be the one car that felt quite nice and balanced with a good turn in and not so much understeer at the same time as not biting when you push.
It's down on power compared to the SEAT, BMW and Chevy though.

I've struggled to find a car I enjoy in this group, but have found the Alfa is the best bet for me Smiley

I'm don't tend to follow the four wheel racing that much, favouring bikes; however, looking back at the 2007 BTCC series, the race laptimes were generally in the 19's and 20's.  Qualifying was 17's but I guess they benefit from supersoft/qualifying tyres? Not sure on that.

Anyway, my point is that perhaps its the other cars that need to be slowed rather than making the beemer quicker?  Or is it more to do with us simmers hammering around at a faster pace knowing we will walk away if we throw it into the wall?

Just a thought  Smiley

I've been fortunate to have been able to walk away unscathed from so many nasty accidents in my simracing career  Smiley

Regards the lap times, bear in mind that these are WTCC cars and presumably different specs to those in BTCC  scooter

You're right though......to make the beemer more competetive, the most workable option would be to slow the fwd cars down with added weight.

Lucky the game doesn't detect body weight or I'd already have that liability  Grin
