Have to say - bit of a disappointing turn out.

Ended up trying to host it myself. Didn't work. Lots of 10054 errors.

Anyone got any ideas?

Missed it - snowed in away from home.

Paul, it's usually to do with firewalls or core.ini mismatch errors. That said if you are just hosting and driving as well firewall settings should be over-ridden. If you are setting it up as a remote server you will need to open up ports etc...

I have added a firewall rule to open up the ports 32767 - 32787 (I think) to UDP. That should help.

Can I actually race myself on the 'server'? Or is there a dedicated mode where I can't 'see' the track? I have a solid wired connection with 54M broadband in London.

I'll try something tonight (2/12/10) at 9.00 for the GTs and 65s as planned for yesterday. I'll be in BREASTS on Igor at 8:50.

Cheers,

P.

Ports sound right, all listed in the readme files. I take it you have opened your router too.
You can either have a hosted server or race and host - the latter is more risky and we wouldn't do that for league races as it uses up more memory (ie it is running you and keeping track of the others) and if you disco so does everyone else.

Thanks for the reply.

It was the router that was firewalled. The PC should be open. there are specific exceptions for GPL on the Windows firewall but I need to test it.

How do you run a hosted server - obviously you can host from within GPL but that puts you in the pits. Is the hosted server an .exe or summat?

I can try this out tonight running from my laptop whilst serving from my main PC, but because I am routing to an internal address (albeit outward facing i.e. the routers external address) I am not sure that the traffic will go 'out' of the router. So I need somebody else to test it. Nigel said he would be around.

Incidentally, this is the PC that I was talking about as being a backup server for league races so it would be good to get it working.

The connection is pretty good and I have NEVER disco'ed. Occassionally though I find that the internet is not available and I have to reboot the router.

Cheers,

P.

 Smiley
2 PCs needed for that :

Setting up an remote server for GPL via Igor

1.   open router program and :
a)   make a note of LAN-IP of your PC you want set as a server
b)   make a note of LAN-IP of your PC you want to join/race with
c)   set ports needed for hosting to your server/PC
        GPL Broadcasting 6970 -  6970
        IGOR 30196 – 30199
        Host GPL 32766 – 32786

d)   set ports needed for joining to your join/race PC
        Igor chat 113 – 113
        Pings 6971 –6971

2.   go to Igor via your server PC :
a)   hit  Listen  in IGOR ( at top bar )
a window called `Remote Host Listener ` will pop up
b)   set in /create a password  btw. this in fact  is the Boss password
( and not the password required to join  a password protected race )
let the port as it is 30196
        don’t take care on `connected Users `

3.   go to Igor via your join/race PC
a)   hit Remote in Igor  ( at top bar )
a window called `Connect to Remote Host.. ` will pop up
b)   set in the IP of your server PC
l        et the port as it is 30196
set in the password  ( see 2. b)
( if you want to host a password protected race , then check the box for `Password required to join `
and set in an password  e.c. tarzan  ,or what ever  ).

c)   hit connect
        a window called  `Hosting.. `will pop up
set in all information/configuration  needed for the race event you    want to host
under security check the Bosspassword box
and set in the password (see 2. b)
hit host

d) a window should pop up , telling you remote hosting was successful
    hit ok

e)   now you are back on Igor ( after a while your hosted race should
appear in the race list )
hit GEM in Igor ( at top bar )
select Multiplayer in GEM and start GPL

f)   now you are in GPL
        go to Multiplayer
check the first box ( upper left ) not the `host `one
set in the server PCs LAN IP
set in the password ( see 2. b)
        hit the green button

happy racing

Thanks for that Nicky.

Presumably the traffic is all UDP/TCP? Is this still a possibility with a sick Igor?

Whatever, I'll try it tonight.

Yeh I know but we couldn't get the server running.

I'm going to try again tonight at 9pm. May not get far but I am happy to host if it works.

The IP will be 86.182.138.254

I only have limited control over the race length and damage models because I cannot get the hosting working via IGOR so I am hosting directly within gplc65 then gplgt

I also cannot limit the car so I will have to trust everyone to select the Ford GT40 Mk2 - I might take the Porsche Cheesy

Had a 'race' with Tim with Numpty joining us for GT qually.

I think Tim knows just how good a driver I am now Smiley

If Igor is not working next week, I can definitely host something but a few people connected and disappeared so I am not sure what the end user experience was like.

Feedback appreciated

Smiley thx BadBlood all was fine for me as an `enduser `.
after I changed my router port settings to `join ` and after I add an dot to the end  of your posted IP , I was able to join without any probs .

red bar indicators were fine . But , as it was only a small number of drivers yesterday , it wasnt an real stress test . lol .

However , good to know tohave a server option to lay back on in case ....
