Moderator's Report

A win for Evil in this one still doesn't put him at the top but won't do any harm in his quest for the Championship. Tom still leads over Hristo.
No reported incidents.

Moderator's Report

Bernie's second win of the season leaves him top of the championship with Ronnie and Fabio following on. Someone forgot the stop in Stop and Go plus one incident (see below).

Server replay time: 0h05m18s

Billy takes a pit in following a reset at 03m29s. However he does not actually completely stop.
The Rules have this;

Incorrect Pit Stop
If a driver makes a pit stop (either mandatory or a S&G due to a Shift-R) but fails to bring the car to rest in the stalls. The moderator may decide an unfair advantage has been gained and consequently a time penalty may be applied equal to 3 times the number of seconds gained. Where the number of seconds gained cannot be determined with any confidence, the moderator may decide to impose a standard 5 second penalty.

Accordingly a 5 second time penalty will apply. If this was habitual or did not appear to be an oversight consideration could have been given to treating it as failing to comply with the Graduates Shift/R rules with a resultant Disqualification.

Server replay time: 0h43m21s

MH is running slightly behind and to the right of HH as they run down towards Horseshoe, he can be clearly seen in HH's mirrors. MH is beginning an attempt to pass on the inside as they approach the corner which could be considered a somewhat risque manouver, but not illegal. HH takes an unusual line, compared to previous laps, and begins to turn in right much sooner then normal. This effectively shuts off the window which MH appears committed to.
On the face of it this incident constitutes a rear end shunt by MH and there was no overlap. However Hannah turns in far earlier then normal knowing Martin is closing on the right behind him. This looks like, a conscious or not, attempt to close the gap through which Martin is attempting to squeeze.
The Rules have this;

Blatant Blocking/Weaving: Penalty 2 Places
The blocking driver changed his line in RESPONSE to the following car's movement and after the following car was committed to his line. Contact is made

However in recognition of the fact that the attempted manouver was somewhat ambitious and Hannah did not make a sudden move to the right, more a covering manouver, this penalty will be reduced by 1 place.

Onto our next event, a new one for UKGPL, with Hristo leading the Works by four points over Tom and Ronnie holding the lead in Privateers over Bernie.

Subject to a viable number of entrants we are running two separate grids for Works and Privateers drivers this season. The Works will run on PRO Damage and Privateers will run on Intermediate Damage with the allowance of ONE shift-R reset. No Shift-Rs are allowed in practice unless authorized by the moderator. A Shift-R (fault or not) MUST be followed by a Stop & Go. A Shift-R for tyres/fuel is not allowed. Any driver taking more then ONE Shift-R OR failing to take a Stop & Go will be disqualified from the race result.

Race List = IGOR
Server(s);
Works = UKGPL_5
IP address = ping myjamesonline.net
Privateers = UKGPL_T7_2
IP address = 62.149.202.168
Race date = 05-12-2010
Time = 21:00 UK time
Track = Virginia International Raceway (VIR)
Variant = 67F1
Damage Model = Works; PRO / Privateers; INT
Qualifying time = 35 minutes. Don't start until 30 mins left on clock to allow everyone to join.
Race length = 50 minutes (laps 27)
Password: see above

Please note in the event the IGOR racelist remains MIA instructions to join direct will be given out in the #UKGPL chatroom

Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page
The track can be downloaded from : http://dixierunners.speedgeezers.net/smogbike/
Add-on’s available at : http://srmz.net/index.php?s=88ae7c0755911d954be8b4bd1eef0fe4&showtopic=256&st=0&p=1453&#entry1453

Please be in IGOR UKGPL chatroom by 8:50 pm UK Time

Reserve drivers should not join the server(s) until there are only 30 minutes of qualifying left. Please restrict chat to pit messages. Moderating will be by reported incidents only, however the moderators reserve the right to review any incident with a particular emphasis on lap one. The aim is to review the race the following weekend so incident reports should be submitted within five days of the race (ie the following Friday). We're hopeful most incidents can be resolved amicably and recommend a days deep breath with a replay review before posting. A sorry in the forum won't be taken as an automatic admission of guilt by the moderators.

With the token system chassis strategy will be a factor. A driver must have sufficient tokens for the chassis he drives in the race.  Any driver who does not have sufficient tokens will be disqualified from the result and his tokens will be set to zero.

Chassis costs;
Lotus 20 / Eagle 17 / Ferrari 15 / Brabham 10 / Cooper 5 / Honda 3 / BRM 0

To see your current tokens hover your mouse over your total points on the championship standings page. Ten tokens will be added when you cross the start line.

The Championship is split into two sub-divisions, namely Works and Privateers. The driver split will be;

WORKS drivers
Kinghiro (R)
Evil Clive
Hristo
Tim FMG
Steve Bird
John Roberts

Fabio (Il Lupo)
Ronnie Peterson
Paul Badblood
Martin Maddog (R)
Ross Gilles27 (R)
Hannah (R)
Nicky I (R)
Happy Al (R)
 D-Rock (R)
Toni Niemi (R)

EasternSun (R) - sub-division to be decided upon

67 Patch: The 1.3 Release of the 67mod can be used.

NOTE: Please ensure you join the correct server, due to the way we import if you start the race on the wrong server your result will not count.

IMPORTANT NOTE (5/12/10)

As you will be aware the IGOR racelist has been down for some time. This has caused subsequent problems with race hosting involving drivers having to join direct via IP. From the moderators point of view there are extra problems I won't bore you with suffice to say we cannot fire up the remote servers in the usual way.

Tonights event WILL go ahead but launching the servers may take longer then usual so please bear with me if things don't kick off dead on 9pm. I have tested the servers and they are both fine but can take a while to fire up.
A note of the IP's to be used will follow and will also be provided in chat.

Addendum
IP addresses;

Works (UKGPL_5) : ping myjamesonline.net (currently 90.195.125.43 )
Privateers (UKGPL_T7_2) : 62.149.202.168

To avoid a Bandwidth Mismatch it's best to set your core.ini to 3/84 - 3/384 which should get you onto anything.
Also they probably won't go into the 'newspaper' section at the end of the race until I go in and manually save the replays and shut them. They will just sit on 'complete' at the end.

The Virginia International Raceway (commonly known as just "VIR") is a road course located in the community of Alton, Virginia.The track originally opened in August 1957 and as one of the first permanent American road racing tracks, VIR soon became a fixture on the SCCA circuit and a favorite among racers due to its high-speed straights, challenging turns and dramatic elevation changes. The track fell on hard times in the early 1970s, and that, combined with the fuel crisis of 1973, spelled the end for VIR. The track was shut following an SCCA enduro on October 13, 1974. It reverted to farmland for 25 years until it was redevoloped and reopened in March 2000.

Whoa, this is one hell of a track. Every corner is a challenge. If you get your lines just right you can find heaps of time. A good example is the esses which are flat out if you get your line right, except for that last corner.

Feels a bit like Lime Rock really, with some bits of Riverside thrown in for good measure.

Seems you can do a whole lot of corner cutting here , can almost straight line the esses and a few others give a big advantage if you do a bit of lawn mowing . (my times are still cr*p though)

Wonder if there are penalties for going green ?

Nah, just run through the race replay 18-19 times, watching it from every driver's onboard camera and observe who's cutting with more than 2 wheels.  Grin

Did some laps of VIR to learn the track and develop a setup. Very tricky track, would take some time to get some consistency. Tires overheating excessively is also a big problem.

I suggest taking a Riverside or Bremgarten setup, and adapting the cambers, tire pressures and gears to it. The rest should work quite well as it is. At least mine does.

Here's a lap I uploaded to Youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USfApwBHtjM

Will post a setup, replay and maybe a track guide later on the Waza blog.

Thanks Hristo, good to see if not only me who has problems at some parts of the course Smiley . Still, gotta figure out where you get those extra 2 seconds from though...

BUT... How do you put up with that Papy engine sound? I'd suggest to visit the GPLEA site ASAP and increase your GPL experience ten-fold!

Tom.

I'm used to the default engine sounds for 67s, so it's rather bad when I don't have that. I actually do have the GPLEA sounds but have reverted to the original for some of the cars, such as the Honda and Ferrari (I think). There are some particular bad properties that some GPLEA sounds have and that's obscuring the tire skid sound too much, being too loud, having either a too low or too high pitch, not looping smoothly or looping some irritating pattern that is really distracting.

The defaults are simple, loop smoothly, mix well with the tire skid sound and have a pleasant pitch. I have very sensitive ears and all that affects my driving by a lot.

@bernie the lap time is in the video description.   Grin

UPDATE: Here's my guide of the track and a ZIP file with the replay and car setup:
