The next of the Spec Challenge will run at what has been described as a Frog Fantasy track. To its credit Pic du Midi has a nice flow with some interesting corners & a rather devilish chicane. It can be done like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ttQooN8niVM – although mere mortals will do it at a slightly more leisurely pace & should be using the other Brabham.
The championship table after three rounds shows the usual FMG, Hristo, Evil Clive & King Hiro.  Full details here Spec Race Challenge
Spec races consist of two back to back Intermediate Short races on the same track. Each driver has to drive one car in each race - start whichever you like. Anyone daft enough to drive the same car will be disqualified from race two. This weeks choice of chariot is the Brabham and the Fezza. (Same as last time out but 1965 versions & it’s the BT11)

Spec Races is the only championship with no handicapping – it’s down to individual driver skill & the ability to cope with different cars.

Races will be run on one grid with one championship table for Season 20.

The Spec Series will be run according to normal UKGPL rules, although only reported incidents will be moderated. (Please file reports by the Friday after race night). Unlimited resets (Shift R) are allowed and you must take a Stop & Go penalty unless another driver or warp was clearly responsible for your misfortune. Stop & Go means coming to a complete halt in (or around) your pit box - please be careful on the rejoin not to impede other cars.  The intention is to be a little less serious than the other championships - have as much fun as you can within the rules.

*bump*

Race thread had dropped way down, so I thought I'd put it back near the top. I wish it was possible to keep race announcement threads chronologically sorted or at least the most recent ones. Maybe "pin/sticky" them or something? Most forums have that option.

Billy, I tried the BT11 and Ferrari to see if the chicane can be taken flat out and there's no problem, as long as you turn in on time and flick to the left at the right moment. There's no need to turn the steering wheel a lot, though I'm sure it depends on the setup as well. Here's a cut replay bit of taking the chicane in the BT11, notice the turn-in points for the right and left:

http://racingleague.co.cc/hikiwaza/downloads/65_picdumidi_chicane_line_in_bt11.zip

I've also included my current setups that I used in testing both cars, though those are subject to some changes, but I'm quite content with them as they are now. Maybe just a few gear ratio changes before the race and some other small things.

Not a bad idea making the very next race a sticky as long as we remember to move it back after. I have done for this one.
Also, at the top right of our UKGPL forums, you will see all the forthcoming races in order. You can click on those posted and it will take you straight to the race details.

A shame that more did not make it for these races as this was a very nice circuit to drive.

For the first race I took the BT11 and was reasonably happy to get 3rd on the grid behind the flying Fezzas of Hristo and Tim. However the start was a little traumatic as I had no starter flag!!.  Shocked I was desperately looking left and right when everyone else started and as a result was totally caught cold and bogged down allowing natan to jump me into T1.

It took a few laps to find a way past Natan, and by then Hristo and Tim were out of sight and flying. So I just cruised home in 3rd without getting too stressed.
During the interval I downloaded and installed a nice man with some flags which made the start a lot easier lol. Quallied in second spot with the Fezza and followed Hristo off the grid and around lap1 without any great effort. The next couple of laps we edged away from Tim in 3rd and i thought that things were looking good for this race. Until......................... my brain cell decided it was time to take a vacation and I totally lost concentration for a lap, running wide on almost every corner missing braking points , wrong gears for corners and Tim caught and passed me with no contest!!  Although I settled things down a little after that I never regained the same pace and cruised home in 3rd again!!
Really enjoyed this track as it had a nice flow to it and hope we can use it again sometime.

Grats to Hristo and Tim for 2 good races.

So it turned out I used the Brabham in the first race, but since I don't really race either the Fezza or the BT11, I got confused when it put me in the red livered Brabham! I didn't really pay attention which car I was selecting when joining the first race, and seeing a red car and red cockpit fooled me it was a Ferrari, lol. It didn't help that the setups for both cars were under the same name either.

Anyway, the first race was fun early one, with Tim taking the lead after the start, but once I was through I could pull away and Tim eventually dropped back after a mistake or something. I had a scary moment at the chicane near the end when I ran over the tires, spun and hit the wall, but somehow continued straight and the car wasn't badly damaged.

Race 2 was very confusing as I thought I need to take the Brabham, but when I selected that I was seeing the race setup (which was new, I had no race setup for the other car yet) I used in race 1 and thought that's the Ferrari setup, so I quit and rejoined with the Ferrari thinking it's a Brabham with wrong livery. Lost half the time of the practice session because of that and couldn't quite do a clean lap, but I think the Ferrari (which I thought was a BT11 at the time) can do a low 30 if driven properly.

The race was interesting again early on, with Evil going at quite a good pace and keeping close behind, but eventually he went off and I just had to keep it until the finish. The Ferrari turned out to be very easy to drive and much more consistent, and I could turn faster laps with it throughout the whole race. Thinking it's a Brabham at the time, I said that BT11 should be put in a higher group for handicapping, but after realizing it was the Fezza I take my words back - it's quite a good car!  Grin

Too much confusion for one night... who the hell painted a Brabham in red!?  Roll Eyes

A fun couple of outings although I was a bit slow, can't use the don't know the track excuse as I raced there yonks back.
Anyway a spin in race 1 put me way back trying to catch Billy but he was just a bit too quick to make anything of it. Race 2 came down to keeping myself ahead of Nigel, another lap or so and it might have become interesting.
Shame about the low attendence.

Grats to Hristo on back to back wins even with the chassis confusion.

Shame the starting grid was a bit thin because this track has a really nice flow. Double shame that it doesn’t come with a starter flag – even though I thought I’d downloaded the patch before race 2.
I’m assigning Hristo a Fiat Panda with a dodgy exhaust for the rest of the season – as long as it’s painted red he won’t notice the difference.
I’m out tonight so I’ll try & get the results posted tomorrow.

Due to more pressing commitments I didn't have time to D/L install & practise this track , plus it takes me an age to learn any new tracks these days , Plus i'm usually at least 5 secs off the pace , so decided to leave it to the experts   Roll Eyes
