For the last Historic trophy (66) race before the Xmas brake, I wellcome you all to the Thruxton track. It is....,  well, lets quote the track builders:

"Fancy a cuppa in the English countryside?

What better way to enjoy one of those "oh-so British" delights, than in the green fields amongst the brambles, nettles and scrub surrounding the old Thruxton airfield.

"Why," you say to yourself "would I want to do such a thing?"

Well it's because if you ween't there of a saturday and sunday watching those old bangers hammering around the race circuit, you just be referred to as an out-of-touch a pratt, now wouldn't you?"

And:

"Its a great track with good carrying speed and it will reward a loose diff, with lots of pedal to the metal!

Enjoy!"

I recommend that you all use the Ginetto fix. see below.

There will be chassis restrictions for this one based on the championship standings. Se below.

Please restrict chat to a minimum, (or maybe none).

Moderating will be by reported incidents only, however the moderator will review any incident on lap one. Please submit incident reports within a week after the race so that the moderators report may be out before the next race.

Best of luck.

My connection is still a bit dodgy (my ISP is sending me a new router which they say will sort the problem) so I decided to start from the pit lane to avoid any start line warp problems.  Had a spin on cold tyres which lost me more time but then settled down and tried to drive steadily.  Started to catch Bookie (I think) but he braked very early for the last turn which caught me out and I locked up and hit the straw bales.  Race over Sad

Hopefully this was my last race with a crap connection.

Gutted

From 4th I was up to second behind Hristo by middle of 1st lap until Tim decided to take his place back on the approach to the chicane.  Once again I was over cautious making sure I left room and ran out of road myself, what a wally!

By the time I got going I was a few hundred yards behind the pack but soon settled into a good rythm and started catching Al, when suddenly in the middle of Goodwood corner my pc froze  Angry  Very frustrating.

I was quickly up to 5th in the BRM, but ran wide approaching the chicane, which meant 7th.  I'd just latched onto Goran's tail, when screen freeze, disconnect, race over!  And this despite having installed the patch to try to escape oblivion??? Huh

3 of you disconnected (froze) at exactly the same moment, with 31 laps to go. Al also had a freeze apparently, so the fix by Ginetto isn't really working. At least for non-Wazas, because we took a 1-2.  Grin Could have been a 1-2-3 had Nige put in enough fuel to get to the finish.  Roll Eyes

I find the Eagle very tricky to drive as it has massive understeer, especially in fast corners and under acceleration, so it took a while to get used to that and to try sort it out as much as possible with the setup.

The race was a close battle early on with Tim stuck in my slipstream, but once he was gone I only had to count the number of remaining laps to the end. It felt like a really long race. I had a half spin on the exit of the final chicane, but apart from that I had no major problems.

With Waza immunity to screen freeze here and Evil's 2nd place, SHE will most definitelly be pleased!  Grin

OK, so the track was not quite OK for online racing and will never be used again, but the result will stand, I do really not want any more reruns and the result is not too weird. After all I did not get any advantage.

It is of cause not quite right that the Waza guys should make it but if they have a really powerful immunity system them maybe the rest of us should sneak in and steel it for the upcoming events and in the process we could put sugar in their tanks or something.

Anyway it was fun as long as it lasted and congrats will, after all, go to H and Evil for their effort to stay both on the track and the server for so long. I just wonder why Al stayed as long as he did, but congrats anyway to 3rd.

Now there will be a Xmas brake but I strongly recommend you all to start practicing for the up coming Monsanto race, see you all there.

Göran

PS. I am of cause sorry for the pic of track and if you think I should get some kind of penalty it is OK with me.

I liked the track Goran & we all assumed the Ginetto fix would errrm fix the damn thing so it's not your fault.

I didn't have much time for practice which was just as well as it turned out... I know the track well in real-life as a spectator so really didn't expect it to be so tricky to drive - a deceptively fiendish layout with a lot of opportunities for screwing up. Shame it will now be blacklisted - would certainly be a good candidate for a proper repair. Anyway I was struggling to find the right lines & braking points throughout qually but once the race started it was a little easier as I just followed everyone else! Clive & Dave both spun early on so I inherited 3rd but Clive soon retook that with a rather unexpected pass through the very slow right-left-right bit. The rest of the race was spent wondering where everyone else had got to & just chasing after Clive who would kindly delay himself with a minor spin every now & again to keep me interested. After much experimentation I was still struggling to work out the best lines & finally 4 laps from the end I got my 4th screen-freeze of the season! Annoying as hell but I guess irrelevent with regard to the result as there was nobody else behind me. WD to the Wazas - what I want to know is who supplies their anti-freeze? Wink

My Ginetto fix wouldnt unzip , not that it would have changed the result but I did wonder if it was the cause of me not being able to past the Club- Cambell- Seagrave complex on consecutive laps without losing vital parts off the front of my car  Undecided

P.S. thanks Tim for the setup , someday soon I may be able to do it justice  Smiley

It was tricky one to be fair Bernie, I found the 2.7 Brab to specialise in swapping ends into the tight corners under braking - the version I gave you (I made some minor adjustments to pressures and camber in qualifying but otherwise the same) was the most stable I'd come up with that was still fast.
If anything I should appologise to you as it certainly wasn't as user friendly as my normal efforts  ninja

Maybe I should have used the 246 as it was nicer to drive - wouldn't have stopped my freeze though I suspect so pretty much academic!

Can only blame myself . Had it in mind the track was Goodwood (stupid boy) which I know and have some set ups for , so when I turned up at Thruxton not knowing the track and not having any set up it was a bad situation .

Your setup saved me a lot of hassle , the race should have been Ok as I found which way it turn the wheel in qually , though the times were as usual way off track .

Just settling into the race and my engine went "PoP" for no reason I know , it's not like I was caning the revs and not speed shifting .

GPL said the reason for retirement was "ignition" a new one on me  Undecided

Don't know how good the simulation is but Thruxton was a classic slipstreamer in its day with lots of demon outbraking moves at the chicane , pity it didnt perform for the UKGPL mass invasion , could have been a useful addition to the track armoury .

Just a thought but have we ever tried or concidered Montjuich ? what are the issues , if any, of racing at this great track,  scene of several past Spanish GP's up until the late 1980's (In fact I was there myself for the (very sad ) final race )  .

Montjuic is on the 'high risk' list here which we are now using as the basis for our own list. There is mention of a fixed version though.

There is a question regarding track choices in the forthcoming mid-season review. We might as well put the review up now as, bar the Works re-run, we are into xmas break territory. Look out for a post in 'announcements'.
Now posted the review here.

Er, I'm wearing my dunce hat at the moment.
Picked the Eagle on the premiss that what works for one Waza might work for another:) also thought that anyone seeing an Eagle coming up behind them might make it easier for me. Couldn't get a good clean lap in qually so kept trying to the flag- big error. Fiddling with set-up I missed the start, 1 min behind Sad Oh well just settle in and see what happens. When I cought a few guys who'd had offs I was feeling pretty cocky, then the engine started missing and I realised I wasn't going any further on qually fuel. :'( Oh well, there's always next time.
Bring on the turkey and pud. Merry christmas everyone.
