Yes I'm sure it was firewall related but still had problems with AVG firewall switched off , due I supposed to the other AVG applications interacting with windows XP stuff , way beyond my knowledge base .

Have a look back at old posts you will find one's I made requesting help , I had tried countless suggestions from various sources but gave up in the end after sheer frustration , made the conclusion that AVG, me, and My Computer were never going to agree . It hurt because I had paid up front for it and was a complete waste of my hdd space . Thinking back I had trialed the free version first which was OK , paid for the licence on the back of the free thinking it would be even better .

There's a moral in there somewhere   Ce la vi  Grin

liked the race and was surprised to finish...let alone 2nd.  Cheers for the setups guys, used one of H's in the end, seemed to work pretty good, the BT7 is good in the corners cowboy, just as well given the lack o powa.  Seems sturdy though.

Saw a red BT11 a bit behind for the last couple of laps, tried not to push too hard and force (another) trip into the barriers, as a result I just kept my nose ahead over the line, good job there wasn't another lap.  I was a tad fortunate to others for tangling, but suppose that is racing.

I find it difficult to race closely without the inevitable contact, any tips?  When behind Tom and Peter I could close, esp in some braking areas, but felt like having a stab would end in tears.  As a result I started braking early to avoid any issues, had to wait for mistakes before I could pop past.  I also cut someone up into the 1st corner, sorry whoever that was, I was driving with the chase view then alternating on the straights, at that point I couldn't see if someone was having a stab.

Finally, can anyone help me to restore the original sounds for the 67 cars.  I swapped em for some off GPLEA and foolishly overwrote the originals.  Not a fan of the new sounds and defo need to restore originals.  In the instructions the deinstallation mentions deleting all the wav files from gpl\sound then overwrite gpl.exe for the CD ROM.  Now GPL doesn't work   Huh  May try putting the wavs back and see if it works.  Any help gratefully received.

Hi guys, maybe someone can help on here. A kind soul pointed me toward 'the racing line' after the race last Tuesday, so I am now trying to re-groove my tracks. In the read-me file it suggests to upload the 5 best replays to create the best GRV file, but when I try it GPLRA only lets me chose 1 replay at a time. Anyone knows if there is a way around it? Thanks in advance

@Baab - when you decide to go for a pass, just commit yourself and stick to your line. Once you have a better exit off a corner and close up on a car ahead, use it to your advantage and clearly signal the car ahead that you're going for a pass. Do that by moving to the side well on time and not in the last moment.

Once you're in their blind spot, they can only hear your engine and will leave enough room so you can enter the corner side by side. As long as you're predictable and in control, there isn't a problem, but it's your responsibility to hold your line (whether on the outside or inside) and not bump into the other car.

@Artiglietti - For a lot of tracks you can use the already made GRV (and CLN) files on The Racing Line website:

http://gplea.rscsites.org/tools/trl/TheRacingLine.html

They're good enough really. For any tracks not covered there, I'm not sure what you can do, because to regroove you need CLN files and I have no idea how to make them.

For tracks which have add-on graphics with an external 3DO file in the track folder, regroove them by loading up that 3DO file instead of the DAT file which is normally required.

Thank you H, I did now download the groove provided on the site (Imola) and it is actually much better than the original one.

Still, there is that strange inconsistency between what it says on the readme file and what you can actually do in GPLRA, wonder if being an old software it is referring to a previous version of GPLRA. No big deal anyway, thanks for helping out.

Yeah, I guess they haven't updated the Help files.

I think you read somewhat wrong here. It says "(2) Load a replay, and select a lap.  Top-5 replays are suggested, for the optimal racing line.

and select a lap, this means you are suggested to choose one of the top-5 replays not a mix of them.

When it comes to make a CLN-file I do not know how to to that either.

I've been collecting CLN's for a couple of years so have put all the ones I've got here; http://www.megaupload.com/?d=W32X0SU8
I gather it needs someone with trackwriting expertise to produce them. On some add-ons you may find you get a zebra crossing groove so you will need the mip fix if that happens.

Thanks Goran, you are right, I was deceived by that mention of the 5 laps and kind of switched off...it would have taken quite a bit of techy wizardy to make a continuous groove out of 5 different laps!

Vos, very kind of you to put that collection at disposal, I just downloaded, thank you very much.

Grin unfortunately you've done each and every step wrong Grin . Will take a bit of fixing so I hope you have backed up your gpl.exe before overwriting.

the original gpl.exe only used 5 sounds for the 7 cars. The soundpatch overcame that problem. you can find it at the gplea website. but your hopefully backupped exe will already be patched, so you have 7 sounds for 7 cars.

So if you put your pre-overwrite gpl.exe back in and the new wavs you have you gpl working again. Not sure where to get the old papyrus sounds back though Sad .

Tom.

The original sounds are in the sound.dat file. You need to extract them with the tool which can do that, forgot the name. I can extract any gpl .dat file, was called datpack or something.

After that you need to rename the original engine sound files to the appropriate names which are used by the carsound patch, i.e. ferrari.wav to fer.wav, cosworth.wav to lot.wav and so on. Play around, but backup your addon sound files first, just in case.
