Moderator's Report

There was too much chatter using voice-comms and in game text. Please refrain from using either in the qualifying and race sessions.

In sim, or on the forum, we do not want any finger pointing with relation to on track incidents. Please raise an incident report to allow the moderators to deal with them.

Server replay time: 1500s

Shark tries to folow the other Corvettes through the chicane, but Bernie moves across and there isn't enough room. There was more room on the outside that could have been utilised to allow the lapping Corvette through.

Server replay time: 4157s

T4 was likely to feature in the moderation - and has generated much discussion following the race.

Ginsters took his normal line, and although not required to lift to help the lapping car through, had Ginsters done this it would likely have prevented the incident as he could have taken a wider line and prevented the incident, in addition to not overly affecting his race as there was a significant gap infront and behind him.

Unfortunately Jamie was committed to the pass before Ginsters turned in. Jamie was a little optimistic in his lapping attempt, there should have been some expectation of the Mustang taking a normal line. Given the proximity of the other Corvettes to Jamie it is understandable that he didn't want to lose time in slowing up, but ultimately lapping safely is the responsability of the passing driver.

The incident comes from a misunderstanding of what each driver was expecting the other to do.

Both drivers could have taken steps to avoid the incident, and such warnings have been assessed.

UPDATE

On appeal, Ginsters warning has been reduced to a caution. Primary responsibility for a safe pass is always with the faster car, and Jamie put his car in a position where Ginsters HAD to lift or crash, in a situation where he could've chosen to delay the pass until after the corner, and where Ginsters had given no indication that he wanted Jamie to pass in that corner.

In mitigation, other Mustangs had allowed Corvettes to lap them in the same corner, particularly in situations like this where the Mustang didn't have another car in close proximity, and the Corvette did. Since Jamie did not respond to the incident report, we cannot say whether his expectations had been set based on the behaviour of other Mustangs.

Multiclass racing is by its nature a cooperative venture between the classes, and being entitled to take a corner as normal doesn't necessarily make it the sensible thing to do. The slower classes have a right to expect the faster cars to be patient when there is no reasonable way for the slower car to help them to pass, but this does not entitle them to expect the faster cars to soak up all the time lost doing so when a little cooperation would not only spread that time between both cars, but reduce the total amount lost.

Server replay time: 4410s

Whilst being lapped Robert is actively racing Jonathan through the infield. He was alongside Robert round the oval banking, and into turn 1 Robert could easily have lifted/braked earlier and allowed him to pass without compromising his laptime.

Server replay time: 4410s

A carbon copy of the previous lap - Jasper was alongside Robert round the oval section into T1, but Robert is actively racing the lapping driver rather than conceding the corner and allowing the lapping driver past.

After how knackered I was after last nights race I'm starting to wonder whose bright idea it was for the mid-season race to be 120mins .....

I'm sure I've mentioned it already, but I am really looking forward to this one.  Pops and I were denied a race-long battle here in the Grand Am, so I'm hoping we are still on identical pace to each other .... and closer to Samu and Dario Cheesy

There will be a practice server up again for this - and I'll try and remember to start it this time Roll Eyes

I've got Daytona but haven't a clue about where it goes. Did it change recently?

Mid America?  That's a MASSIVE track Cheesy

Road America is good - if it's been a little overused (hence not appearing on this season).  Road Atlanta is a fun track, although not best suited to MC if I'm honest .... although they race ALMS there .... but then again they race ALMS at Lime Rock Park too! Cheesy

Robin - to my knowledge Daytona is unchanged.  If youre talking about the real life track, they resurfaced the oval I think.

One of the best Rovals currently in iRacing among Miami Roval, especially with faster cars like DP or Vette  Smiley Shame that I really struggled here at Grand Am so I really expect that this is going to be close (and hard) race. All 120min of it  Shocked

Yeah, should be fun this one. I don't mind the track, as rovals go, but I've never completely clicked here, always feel like I'm missing something. Will definitely be a two-stopper for the Vettes too as you can only go about 26-27 laps on a full tank, so we should see some different strategies play out.

It won't be anywhere near as intense as Laguna was, you've effectively got two nice long straights every lap to chill out on! Grin

That was why I opted for the non-chicane layout at Watkins, gives folk some respite from the madness Cheesy

Yeah, Daytona should be less brain-draining.  At Laguna, I was mentally shattered 3/4 of the way through because after lap 10 there was always some traffic to lap.

Can I suggest that when on the banking, Mustangs stay low and the Vettes will go round the high side.

got this track for the official season this season so ran my first race on it this week and boy is it strange track ..............that infield is like being on an ice rink....BUT them oval sections are so darn fast they make up for the twisty slipway middle bit  Wink

that bloody chicane in the middle of the banked bit .that cost me some SR with it's pointy edges  Undecided

actually looking forward to this one the length is going to be interesting to see if I can last that long

that's a good idea  Wink

So far I'm running 1:42's with a full tank, there's a bit to come off that yet and I need to sort out a consistent approach to T1, or it'll kill me  Shocked

Mustang drivers, don't forget that this is the official Grand Am track this week. I did a race yesterday as a warmup.

Run a 20 lap stint this morning using the fixed set up which seems very balanced once you put the brake bias back a few clicks. Was able to run consistent 42.0 to 42.3 no problem . Nice track for a mixed class and should be alot of fun compared to Laguna which was a slog for me.

Rear wing settings for the C6 are weird, as soon as you click down from the highest setting the car turns into an oversteering mess . Anyone ever got a decent set up not using full rear wing ?

I found that too, I dropped to the 0.75 wicker but going any lower and it kills you in the kink and the chicane no matter what else you change  Huh  Since we have to do 2 hours, I'll stay with stable I think.
