Thanks Tony - forgot about that.

What about the 906LH for this race?

BTW: can't await the release of P & G 3

This is going to be a monster slipstreaming battle.  So much of it is foot to the floor.   Grin

The Masta Kink isn't such an issue as it is in GPL, I think I took it flat on my second attempt.

3:48.4 is my best after about five laps.

wish everyone would stop whining when a porsche happens to be picked for a single car race like its some conspiracy against their driving prowess  Roll Eyes , its not like its every bleeding week and there have been plenty of races using other car makes & types, so just get on with it or wait another week if it doesnt appeal. Peace be with you  angel

Great car and a great track  Cool

The 906LH is a death trap.

Think I proved it wasn't at Hockenheim last season actually - taking the only LH to 5th and only let down by my normal strategy issues IIRC  Tongue

Your Hockenheim run was amazing Tim and I still haven't figured out how you did that.

I used the LH at Sarthe and found that it was an awful thing to drive, particularly at the flat out kink on the Mulsane.

Hockenheim, to my recollection, did not have anything similar to the kink but Spa has a whole shed load of flat out corners.  Have you tried the LH yet?  I suspect that it will suffer more here.

I understand that the GTLWS boffins accept that the LH has a bug.

I did some testing with the Ferrari 275 Special and some additional testing with the Penske L88 Corvette.

When deciding on this track, I originally wanted to run the L88 as it's huge engine suits this track well. I was able to get the locomotive running a little over 170 mph. I don't recall the top speed as brake zones come up quickly at those speeds and it takes some time to look down. While the Ferrari sounds incredible, it's corner speeds are only slightly higher than that of the Vette, but it gives up quite a bit in the straight bits. The 906E is flat most of the track including the Masta kink and is a joy to drive. It seems like this car was designed with this track in mind. In the end, I chose the 906 because I thought it would yield the best racing. I imagined a conga line of 906's drafting NASCAR style.

In the interest of attempting to satisfy those with a distaste for Porsches (blasphemers) I am adding the L88 Vette and Ferrari 275 Special. Here are my lap times and setups for each.

Crivens!  I need another four seconds.  surrender

I agree Mike, as I did my second lap I thought that the two of them were made for each other.

It feels to me to be a totally different animal when compared to other Porsches and whilst it might be a bit low I don't think that I can call it an ankle biter.

The combination of the 906 and Spa is like chalk and cheese compared to the last round and I thank you for an imaginative combination.

And if you are only at 47s with the L88 there is no way that I'm even unlocking that garage door!

MJ, I don't give a monkeys if a Porka is available as a choice to drive. But they are 'special interest' type cars & not everyone's cup of tea (Just like sticking on a Mini only race).
The last race was a Porka only & I sat it out through lack of interest, just as you suggest... But here we are, two weeks later at the next race & it was posted as another Porka only race. By the time this race comes round, it will already have been 4 weeks since the last time I got to race UKPnG (due to the new Thursday Time-Share agreement between Mike & Tony for GTL+PnG Roll Eyes), I love PnG (& GTL) & it has so many fantastic cars! Single spec races week after week just rob people of opportunity. Opportunity to experience the joy so many PnG cars offer!
So don't get in a panic & feel the need to defend Porka's MJ, if it had been a single spec *insert any car name here* car race for example, I'd have been equally baffled. Once in a while (as a treat Wink) spec races can be great, but in the last four races, this is the 3rd single spec one.

p.s. Though I will say, this is the one of the three spec races that stands out as a great match up of car & track.

Talk about a massive generalisation. So the 914, 906, RSR and IROC all drive exactly the same?

Do i have to point out your Avatar? Wink Grin

Sorry, my mistake... This would have been the 4th single spec race from the last five races & the third Porka only one. So MJ was right, it not quite every week laugh

personally im still of a preference to a free reign of cars at all our P&G events, so everyone gets to drive their favourite cars flat out. It makes the grid look and sound fantastic and seems to generate better attendances. Just read an article on the last Spa 6hours classic event and it had a great array of different racing cars taking the top slots at different points of the race.
The flipside is you could end up in a car that has no-one to race if they havent picked a similar paced machine, and the other negative is that people always seem to go straight and pick 'the' fastest car for that particular circuit  Roll Eyes

'Till then, learn to love the Pork  Grin

Yup. Historic GT racing is all about different cars imo from a time when cars were not designed on a computer and tested in a windtunnel.
So I don't mind if I have slower car... I am slow anyway  Tongue
