Moderator's Report

El pinar again saw a return to form for the BT7's, this time in Hristo's slimy tenticles.
After some early tussles Tom (Hiro) relinqished 1st and then 2nd spots to the lawnmower powered go-karts, before finally settling in to a comfy 3rd spot.
Life was consideraby less comfortable for Al, Clive, Fulvio, and Goran all of whom were in full battle mode over who could claim the coveted 4th spot.
After a long protracted battle they appeared to decide to share it, but didn't quite get their line straight enough resulting in Clive taking the invisible pink trophy and Goran, Al and Fulvio following home in that order.
Time from Clive crossing the line till Fulvio followed?
A nail bitingly close 1.8 seconds!

From sunny, if dry Kyalami we find ourselves travelling to an equally hot, but this time muggy location in South America.
We find ourselves recommencing battle in that most unfortunatly named of countries - Uruguay (snigger)
Tom (King H) finally broke the Brabham strangle hold on race wins last round and we move to round 8 with the leaderboard currently running as follows:
FMG, Hristo, and Goran. With Evil Clive poised in 4th just waiting to pounce if Goran blinks.

Appologies about posting so late, due to the website going down and my subsequent post in Vos' forum I forgot  Embarrassed

Just did two slow laps and I experience a bad FPS drop in 3-4 places, similar to the problem Monza 10k has on its s/f straight.  Undecided

Anyone else have this? I didn't get any drops here (I wouldn't though!  ninja) and don't remember getting any while testing on the work PC (Benchmark for slow systems  Grin )
Would handy to know if it's a propper issue prior to the race  Smiley

I lowered the settings of the D3D rasterizer to the bare minimum, set my video card 3D profile to auto balanced and turned down the number of objects drawn in GPL to "Few" (along with the usual minimum detail slider). Now it looks quite uglier but the only FPS drop is a slight 36 to 35 for a moment here and there, and that's not really felt. I don't know how it's going to be once I race with other cars though... might give it a go with the AI later and check that out.

The drop has something to do with objects in the middle of the track which you get to see a couple of times per lap after coming out of those hairpins, I'm pretty sure of that. It's the same with Monza 10k's pit building.

Otherwise I quite like the track. The varying radius of the hairpins makes it tricky to take the best line and that always leaves some room of lap time improvement. I won't be doing a guide for this one though, it's pointless with the graphics I'm running atm and I'm not so acquainted with the track.

Well, not really a fan of this sort of circuit, but it started to grow on me.

Qualified 6th which is the best i could have done but made a total mess of the start and lost a couple of places.

About 2 laps in, the last corner caught me out and although i was fully slowed down, the line of the corner and the distance to N Vix ahead caught me out as i rounded it and i tapped him and he spun. We both lost a couple more places but we both got going again.

I noticed a couple of laps later he disconnected and the thought i may have damaged his car made me feel a bit guilty making me want to retire. Though i battled with Phil for a few laps where we both kept out braking ourselves on the back straight hairpin, i could see the leaders closing in and still felt guilty at my sloppy driving.

The constant, 1st to 5th, 5th to 1st gear shifts for every corner were taking there toll and the odd missed gear here and there was making the car loose. I let the first few leaders by and then decided it was best to let them carry on rather than risk getting in their way on this twisty circuit. I suspect they still had the pace to lap me 2 or 3 times more as my rhythm had totally gone so decided to get out of the way and retire.

Apologies to N Vix. Genuine accident, but totally my fault.

I'll look forward to uninstalling this one as it had more than a touch of the Herman Tilkes about it, but well done to the podium, whoever that may be.. (they're still racing)  Wink

Though i battled with Phil for a few laps ....
It was the highlight of my race.  If you hadn't been there it would have been very lonely.  Having said that my pace wasn't to bad, I lost the vast majority of my time through silly mistakes.  Managed to get it to the finish even if I was 2 laps down Sad.

This was a very difficult race. Tom was very fast in Qualifying and out of laps I did only 2 were faster than his, so it was a close call. I couldn't put in consistent fast times, so most of my laps ended up being slow or never completed because of a mistake. So easy to make mistakes here, especially under braking and corner entry...

I was expecting Tom to get the upper-hand on the start and so he did, but I quickly realized my only chance to make a pass might be while the tires are cold and he's being cautious, because his acceleration was much superior to that of my BT7 and he arrived at T2 with a couple of car lengths advantage already.

I had a good exit off T2 and slotted into his slipstream, but the BRM still pulled away effortlessly. I wasn't planning an attack at T3, but Tom started braking earlier and took a defensive line in the middle of the road, so I went around the outside and kept my revs higher that way, allowing me to accelerate more efficiently and snatch first place!

It was far from over in those early laps though, as Tim quickly moved up to 2nd and was pushing very hard. I hadn't practiced on race fuel and I also made a few setup changes just before the start, so I had to take big risks into the unknown to maintain a high pace, but it worked well and after a few laps I managed to open up a 2-3 seconds lead.

For the first 2/3rds of the race distance I kept going at Qualifying pace, more or less, but once I started catching up the groups of backmarkers, it was pointless to keep taking more risks. For the rest of the race I was looking after the range, except the final few laps where I had my usual go for the fastest lap time.

Quite pleased with the result, but it required a lot of hard work!

Life getting in the way of GPL again so my first proper running at this circuit only came about 15 minutes before the event Undecided. Judging by the initial times in qually I wasn't the only one to shirk practice but luckily the track wasn't too difficult to learn so I felt by the time the session ended I was beginning to get a handle on it (apart from the last corner which remained a puzzle to me throughout the race no matter what line & braking I tried).

As for the race - well not such a great result for me but I'm not really bothered about that as it was such an enjoyable fight. Had a great 4-way battle with Goran, Fulvio & Clive - we all seemed to grab 4th place at sometime or other but the slightest error by anyone was enough to cause a reshuffle in our order. Thought I had 4th in the bag for a while after Goran's spin allowed me through but 2 tiny mistakes by me allowed first Clive & then Goran past again. Managed to just about hold off Fulvio on the last lap & all 4 of us crossed the line as one big lump but I notice we eventually finished in order of our FL ranking so perhaps that was fair (ish!) Good clean racing all the way though thumbup1

I quite enjoyed this track & of course wish I'd had time to practice it a bit more now - the downhill esses were particularly good fun but I think what really helped the racing was the fact that it had a couple of corners that were so difficult to get consistently right (ie., that final turn & even the one preceding it). Under pressure it was so easy to make slight errors & for me that made for some exciting racing - might be a point worth considering for future circuits? Anyway congrats to H, Tim & Tom.

Thanks for all your efforts Tim , even though they came to nowt in the end .

(nowt = Wiganese for "sod all" )

Had spent a long day taking my 97yr old Mother in law back and forwards to hospital and the race completely slipped my mind until late evening .

As it happens I just tried, but failed, to load the track , looking at the file I think there's an .ex missing from the directory  Undecided

Many thanks again,  most appreciated  Smiley

Under pressure it was so easy to make slight errors & for me that made for some exciting racing - might be a point worth considering for future circuits? Anyway congrats to H, Tim & Tom.

That's actually the reasoning behind my choosing it Al Smiley It was chosen as a relatively simple power circuit that should (And I'm glad to note, did) promote some good battles  Smiley

As for the track I must admit I rather enjoyed it too, although I had a sore left ankle from all the gear changes and and equally sore right foot from all the heavy braking  Grin
Was quite suprised at finishing in a relatively comfortable 2nd as from the qualifying I was expecting to have a big fight with Tom (Hiro) and hoped to cling onto H.
As it happened H's move on Tom slowed him enough for me to jump on the band wagon aswell into the penultimate corner, Tom kindly left me room and continued to pressure me for several laps until he had a half spin and dropped back.
This left me free to concentrate on Hristo who was starting to pull away seriously by that point and try to at least equalise the gap between us (I failed).
Tom was making small gains on me when not under close scrutiny from Goran, but at about the halfway point these stopped and I pulled ahead to a 4 second gap which remained static until the end of the race  Smiley

As for the final turn, that was my favourite corner on the track (Even above the T3/esses complex) as it was so hard to get right, and so dangerous if you got it wrong  Grin

Sorry the installer didn't work Bernie, don't know why as that's what I installed on the server yesterday morning?? Maybe the ZIP got corrupted in the email?
