So i have never Sim raced on-line ever before.i have however raced in real life...so when it comes to driving, i know what is expected. I have race 07 (with the GTR evo add on)and GTR2 and Power and glory. I'm curious about what do i need? Track? cars? do i need all the cars and tracks? or just ones for events i might be interested in? am i expected to enter lots of events, which wouldn't happen because I'm working, and going to university. Anything that was listed in the rules/getting started section that needs emphasis on? anything that could help me out would be very much appreciated!

Thanks

Welcome Muskrat.

If you have Race07 and Evo content you are set to go for these events.

All our forthcoming events are linked at the top right of the page. As TT says, follow these links and the first post will give you all the details you'll need to join.

Hope to see you soon on track and do shout up if you have any problems.

Welcome aboard Mr Muskrat.

I know nothing about 07 or Evo but have tried GTR2 and PnG.

Of those two, I prefer PnG because my poor brain can't cope with the grip levels in GTR2.

You can enter as many or as few events as you wish.  Depending on what and where you raced in real life, you may like the sound of the next PnG race as it is at Pembrey, look you!  PnG races are only once every two weeks, so there are not many of them to begin with.  Also, the PnG fraternity have been holding their breath waiting for version 3 to come out for at least a year.  When it happens there could be a lot of interest and some good races.

The transfer from real racing to this virtual stuff has one big issue.  Visibility!  In real life you can see where the opposition has got to even when he is alongside.  In on-line racing you can't and the rules of engagement have to be tweaked a bit to allow for this.  Basically, if the bloke behind is closing and then goes into your blind spot then you have to assume that he is alongside and give him room.  It also follows that you can't "lean" on the other bloke because he can't see you.

Also, when passing people, try to leave enough gap so that there is no "warp" contact between the cars.  Warp is the term used to describe the situation where one or both of the client PCs loses some packets of information relating to where the other cars are.  All of the PCs involved then start making things up, based on the last known position and direction of travel and may conclude that the cars have contacted each other.

Following too close behind another car for an extended period is also asking for trouble.

Equipment wise, you want the fastest PC that you can lay your hands on and a decent wheel.  I think that most people use the Logitech G25 or G27 and if you go to the "Show us how you race" thread you can see how all the lucky ones who can leave their rig permanently set up do it.

Hope that helps.  There is a racing etiquette thread somewhere and if I find it I will add it here.

Have fun.

Welcome Muskrat. What do you race for real? I'm another one here that spends time in a real race car. There are a handful of us here who do so.
