Moderator's Report

Server replay time: 0

Qualifying:

Jove drives into the back of Popabawa's Mustang.

In qualifying, as in the race, care has to be taken when cars of differing classes are in close proximity to each other. Jove's lap would have been compromised by having to slow, but the avoidable collision compromised the lap of both drivers.

Qualifying has been lengthened by 10 mins to stop the mad rush to get laps in, and to stop this kind of incident from occuring.

Penalty assessed with no loss of position as incident occurred in qualifying.

Qualifying:

Raimo takes the racing line as he is entitled (and expected in qualifying) to do. Jove had committed to a pass in a gap that he should have expected to disappear. After the contact Jove spins unexpectedly, leaving Raimo to take evasive action and subsequently he loses control.

Again, it's a question of one compromised lap versus two, and as Raimo was ahead, the racing line was his.

Penalty assessed with no loss of position as incident occurred in qualifying.

In lapping Adam, Richard seems caught in two minds regarding what to do. Approaching T2 Richard gets alongside but then drops back. Assuming he'd been given the corner Adam turns in as normal, but as Richad then gets back on the throttle the room runs out and there is side to side contact.

As there was no overlap at turn in, Richard should have stayed behind through the corner and then passed under power on the following straight.

Could have been better for me...

Glad of the extra 10 mins in qually, after getting a "banker" in, I had a few good laps disrupted, before hooking a (traffic free) lap up at the last to claim 3rd on the grid with a new PB.

With Jasper behind I knew it wasn't going to be a relaxing start and that was the case.  The clear opportunity came to pass me after a couple of laps and I had a bad line into the "follow through" and that was that.  I then bravely tried to hang on to Raimo and Jasper, but I gradually dropped back.

Andy Gooderson was catching me up pretty quickly, but a solid pit stop gained me a couple of seconds, which I hoped would be enough to see me stay in 4th till the end ... it wasn't to be.  I had a few silly 1x that lost me a chunk of time - missed braking points due to looking in the mirrors ... rookie stuff ... and then the big mistake that cost me dearly...

A bad line in the "follow-through" got me on the outside kerbs, unsettled the car, and a tank-slapper led to a trip into the wall and damaged my steering.

unforunately on pitting it was evident the that "fast pit" wasn't on - I'd receive a bang on the door from a passing DP before the stop, so repairing the car would have taken 5 mins.... not great.

With a couple of Stangs already having passed me and a few more not far behind I had to soldier on with bent steering, and was losing time lap on lap as a result.  In the end I was spared being passed by Pops when his connection failed ... and that was that for the race.

Still ... a promising first half of the race, just need to keep cool (my office is at 28 degrees apparently ... stupid sunshine ... ) and keep focused.  Not a great first race of the season, but with seven to go I'll bounce back.

Great stuff from the DP's on the whole.

Nice one guys thanks for hosting

I started alright hung with the pack for a few laps then was out on my own and got into a decent rythem. Then a lapse in concentration on lap 11 at the quick right hander (the kink) left me brushing the wall, enough damage to make me pit  Roll Eyes. Came back out a lap down and got back into the grove. Last quarter of the race i was crap couldnt string a decent few laps together then put it in the wall and took a tow in anger Angry. But at least i got it home even if i was a few laps down  laugh

Sorry in advance to some of the Mustangs i clipped i think jasper was one so sorry  Embarrassed

This weekend has been a massive help in learning the Riley DP and a new track so thank you very much for your help and hosting got my optimum down into the 2:03's so not quite on the pace but getting there

Whew, another epic race! Qualified in fourth place just behind Adam and Raimo so it was shaping up to be another close one. Simon was uber fast and unreachable, well done Smiley Managed to pass Adam after a couple of laps and then caught up to Raimo. We were running roughly the same times so overtaking was going to be a challenge. On lap 14 Richard spun in turn 5 and as I was looking to the left to see where he was, he already came to a halt on the track ahead of me. I never saw him so I ran my car straight into his car... sorry mate! My steering was a little bent but nothing major and I only lost a couple of seconds to Raimo so the hunt continued Smiley I think about 70-75 minutes in Raimo ran into the wall after the kink and he had to pit so the battle was over as we were still only seconds apart.

Overall this was yet another awesome race, DP's were great, thanks everyone!

Yeah that was me but don't worry about it, it's racing Smiley I wasn't looking ahead and saw you way too late, might have avoided you otherwise. Congratulations on the finish, definitely a good effort seeing you just started driving the DP!

just a quickie post

Sorry Simon for the clip going into turn 2 I thought I was well clear was a shock to see a "contact 0x" as I pulled past ya  Undecided and in fact it's not even showing on my lap stats Huh

also sorry for number of 1x in the second half of the race this was due to the fact I shouldn't have run the race let alone finish it but I pushed myself to the end i wasn't physically fit enough to run the race {had a few personal issues the last few days}

apart from that I think it was a decent run and I hope I didn't cause problems for others had some fun racing a few puzzling encounters with the Mustangs along the way .wasn't sure which side to pas sometime on the pit straight with the Mustang running up the middle of the track on the whole though I think everybody did their best to give everybody the room needed, closing speed at the corners was bloody frighting sometime  Shocked

anyway off to grab a fist full of painkillers and have a rest

thanks for a super race guys was a pleasure again

OH and before I forget well done David, Darren and Paul in the Riley DP and also Simon, Jasper and Andy in the Mustangs Wink Wink

next time guys with a little bit of luck  Wink Wink

Something not right, seems this has imported as a non championship round!

No championship set up at all but now rectified. Wink

Was over the moon to chop half a second off my PB and get 3rd on the grid with a lap a tenth better than my optimal going in. I knew that wasn't going to be reflected in race pace, but it at least put me ahead of Oily, Purds, Karsten and Ian Rogers, who I figured would be my real competition.

Got a great start and could've fought Paul for second but decided discretion was the better part of valour and tucked in behind him. Looked inside into turn 5 because I know how easy it is to miss the braking point there, especially on the first lap. That compromised me off the corner and Darren wasted no time in thrusting himself past into 6. That left me where I expected to finish in the field and it was then a matter of trying to eek a small gap out over Kartsen and Oily and be careful in the traffic.

That was tough through the first quarter of the race; Karsten removed himself from the equation with a spin but Oily continued to press hard. Catching Mustangs was a real lottery - most places aren't an issue, but having had some bad experiences in the past trying to drive round the outside of lapped cars in the Carousel I was trying to avoid doing that; even more scary was catching a car at the Kink - the speed difference was already big and the cornering ability was even bigger. I think Pops was on the receiving end of my boldest move there - fortunately we both survived.

In the end it turned out to be immaterial; Oily also had some sort of drama that dropped him way back, and whilst I spent much of the race fretting about whether he'd taken a reset and was thus good to the end, it turned out he still had to pit, so the last third of the race was simply spent being very careful and maintaining the gap to Purdie. Even the late drama with Paul Richards didn't drop him back or slow him anything like far enough for me to be looking at a podium.

Quite a satisfying race for me even if there wasn't much excitement; the Mustangs were all very good, even if I did keep catching Raimo and Jasper in the worst possible places Roll Eyes lol and provided a much needed focus to my race. thumbup1

Well done to Shark, jumping into my old Mustang and dominating the slower class.

Great endurance race and great seeing the new guys Smiley

Didn't manage to get under the elusive 2min barrier in quali and started 8th. Managed to pick up a place before the start after Jamie disappeared in front of me. It was an immediate start when the pace car peeled in and I gained places mainly through attrition, with Karsten and Oily coming to grief. They were both faster so I had to maintain a decent pace to prevent any come-backs!

It all went wrong on my in-lap when I lifted off (stupidly) mid-corner on the penultimate corner when I came up behind Pops, I ended up sideways and off track  Roll Eyes

Came out 5th in the end and stayed there until the end. I was driving flat out trying to catch Dave but the gap never dipped into single figures.... and I was easily a second off his pace anyway but it kept my concentration up.

Stangs were great tonight, hope I didn't cause them any problems.

Pace up front was pretty mental by the DP's!

Grats DW on the win and team-mates Darren and Paul rounding of the podium  Afro and Simon, Jasper & Andy in the Stangs  Smiley

Practice:

Saturday's session was great; I got a good couple of medium length stints in before taking the fuel out to attempt a go at David Ward's benchmark, which proved somewhat difficult. I adapted the setup a bit, mainly the rake and front toe in trying to dial out the initial turn-in understeer into fast corners and ended up blasting my pb by six tenths straight away, ending up at 59.2 - although I reckon a 58.9 was on the cards if I could dig deep enough. No way I was getting near David, Darren, and Paul though.

Sunday's session was pretty straightforward; with more Mustangs driving around it was a good experience gathering session ahead of the race. The setup was very comfortable indeed across a range of fuel loads so I was quietly confident heading into qualy and the race.

Qualification:

The first half of the session ended up being a bit of a washout; either I'd nail the throttle just a touch too early, or I'd get compromised by traffic. I had a decent banker lap in the bag at one point, until near the end of the lap I was compromised by catching a Mustang in a particularly bad place, so I abandoned the run and tried again from the pitlane hoping for a bit of space. Thankfully that space materialised, and I pumped in a 59.5 followed by a 59.3 to claim 6th place. I had another two tenths on the following lap but gave it a smidge too much welly out of a slow corner, so I abandoned the lap a minute or so before the chequered flag came out.

Race:

I popped out to point percy at the porcelain so to speak quickly, but came back with not a huge amount of time left to grid. I clicked the tempting green button as I sat down and started psyching myself up a bit waiting to set off before realising that I hadn't changed setup since qualifying - I only had 10l of fuel in the car! I escaped out hurriedly, chucked the race setup on it, and lined up in the pitlane waiting for the back of the field to go past. Not the end of the world, I thought, until I noticed the fuel level - still 10l! Bugger! I would've been better off starting on the grid after all!

I trundled out of the pitlane at the back of the Mustang field and promptly overtook the whole lot pretty much in one straight, which was pretty cool I have to admit. I had figured out which lap I'd have to get to as a minimum in order to tank the car to the end earlier on, which happened to be the end of lap 4, and thankfully that was precisely how far my 10l would get me - so I dived in the pits, got a set of fresh boots, tanked the car, and set off in tyre conservation mode.

The car felt great with 91l of fuel in, and so long as I didn't take too much out of the fronts at the Carousel and the Kink, and didn't lock up, I felt I could see them through to a decent state come the end of the race 41 laps later. I got my head down and got some reasonably consistent laps in for the first half of the race; not fantastic pace wise but stable, and that's all I'd need to get myself back up the field come the pitstop phase later on.

The Mustangs presented me with a few hairy moments - I recall two trying to pass each other on the front straight, taking up all of the room. I thought about diving past on the right but that was closed off as I approached, so I braked, waited behind for a bit, thought 'sod this' and sent the car straight through the middle. A bit like Spa 2000 really, backwards Smiley

Towards the end of the race the tyres were still holding up nicely, but as the lap counter hit the mid 30s the rear juuuuuuust started to become a little skittish. That didn't stop me from setting my fastest lap in this time, but it was a little unnerving nonetheless. A few cars had come out of the pits immediately behind me and then dropped back, so I knew that I had enough pace to hold people off despite having tyres some 20-25 laps older.

James caught me up gradually near the end of the race, and I knew it would be a big ask to keep him behind with some 11-12 laps to go, but I managed to peg the gap to around 2 seconds for a while, until Robert Burton slowed us both up weaving about after the kink. This provided a net gain to James, putting him right under my rear wing - he got a much better exit out of the last corner and started pulling alongside as we went up the hill. I gradually moved right to defend my position and compromise his entry into turn 1, squeezing him against the pitwall until I thought I'd reached a sensible gap size ("DP + A little bit"), at which point I reverted to a straight line. We continued until just after the start finish line until James veered slightly left, clipping my right rear wheel, sending me nose-first into the concrete.

I reset and followed Ian around, a lap down, until the end just in case any other +1L people ran into fuel trouble etc, eventually finishing P10.

It was a bit of a shame after working my way up to P6 after my horror start, but I'm not actually particularly downbeat about it, because
a) I was pretty pleased with my own pace, consistency, and tyre management throughout the race; so it wasn't a disappointing performance at all.
b) I know James to be a quality driver and I can't believe for one second that there was any malice involved whatsoever.
c) I learnt a great deal about getting the most out of the car on the absolute limit from the Saturday session when we ended up having a 6-man qualy lap battle. I'd driven it in races before of course, mostly at Homestead B, but I was really digging deep there and I got a lot out of being pushed that hard.

Props to the Mustang field, a great deal of common sense was being used out there and while the DP closing speeds are really rather scary at times I think everyone handled it pretty well. Props of course also to David and Simon respectively for their wins.

Looking forward to VIR already (connection permitting of course!)

That was a pretty disappointing race for me.

I hadn't had enough practice to generate any real pace but the first half of the race was cracking, racing with Rob and latterly Andy, we swapped paces a good few times, all nice and clean, awesome.

Sadly on the last lap of my first stint I ended up on the grass and scraping the wall after an incident with one of the DP's at the Kink. That left me with a very long pit-stop and then I stupidly picked up a black flag for speeding trying to get out again too quickly Roll Eyes

I decided to carry on after the penalty to see if I could pick up any places. After a massive chase with Jack I got past only to get disconnected with about a lap to go! cursing Only one more race to go before I move house, hopefully the new connection will be much better!

Well done to the DP's for making life easy and well done to all the podiums.

I've never done a league out side of iRacing but i do love endurance racing, so when i heard about this i thought i better get myself sign-up.

Practice
Was great fun, having raced on the track a couple of weeks before in the iRacing league I knew my race pace would be round the 2.00 mark, so i decided to work on my qualifying setup. My previous best was a high 58.7 but with a few tweaks and some banter with Jamie i managed to pull out a low 58 much to Jamies frustration :p

Qualifying
With my new found speed I was pretty confident that i would be near the front, I got a banker in first and then set about trying to chase down Paul's time. It was quite frustrating having to shut off because i was catching Mustangs in the worst possible places, but thank fully i got a clean lap and the pole! Smiley

Race
I've never been on pole before so i was pretty excited and a little nervous lol I waited for the pace car to peel in and gunned it but Paul and Darren was quick to react so i didn't get much of a jump on them. I was pushing hard for a few laps to try and create a buffer between Paul & Darren who had great race pace! Traffic wasn't a problem and thanks to all the Mustangs for being so polite, coming up to 3 Mustangs on the back straight all battling for position they saw me coming and allowed space for me to get through. Had a few moments lapping some DPs they didn't make it very easy to get passed, little frustrating but in those moments you just have to be patient and not make any rash moves.

Second half of the race was just like the first, managing the gap between Paul / Darren and getting through the traffic as quickly and safely as possible.

Thanks for putting on a great event, I can't wait for VIR one of my favorite tracks!
