Moderator's Report

Mod report for the Spec Races at Donington as below. Just a reminder that for Season 21 Specs will run with full moderation on Lap 1. Unlimited Resets are permitted but every reset must be followed by a Stop & Go.
There were a number of retirements at Donington. Whilst the short race length means you have a limited opportunity to make up ground there are still points up for grabs.

Server replay time: 0h01m33s

Blito clips Ronnie's rear end. There was a partial gap on the inside by realistically not sufficient for an overtake. Part way between a blantant & rear end shunt but as a Lap one incident a 2 point penatly is applied.

Server replay time: 0h03m16s

Blito runs into Vos in the chicane. Vos is quite slow through the chicane but Jason should have allowed room.

Server replay time: 0h07m17s

Steve takes an outside line to pass Skymole in turn one. Skymole holds the racing line & Steve lines up a pass through Turn 3 but not an ideal passing place. Skymole should have greater awareness of lapping drivers. Generally pull off the line early & create space OR stay on the racing line without sudden or unexpected movements but ease of the gas.

Server replay time: 0h13m20s

Skymole loses control & shids off on the corner into the long straight. He is too hard on the gas when rejoining, spinning the car in the centre of the track. Whilst piroetting he manages to collect both the leading & second placed cars (Evil & Natan).
Skymole - blatant bad rejoin - 2 places

Spec Racing kicks off a new season, moving to the Friday night slot with "the Royal Wedding Race". Very best wishes to William & Kate but Westminster Abbey isn't the best venue for F1 racing so UKGPL celebrations will be up the road a bit at Donnington in Derbyshire. The track can be downloaded here donnington

For any new entrants to Spec Racing the format is a little different from other divisions. There will be two Int Short Races, back to back on the same track. For each event there are two chassis available and you should drive both cars - anyone daft enough to use the same car will be disqualified for Race 2. Start with whichever chassis you like. We start with the 65 Mod & your choice of chariot is the Brabham BT11 v the Ferrari.

There is no handicapping (until I find a really good way to nobble Hristo) - all participants will run in one division.

A slight change in moderating procedures from previous seasons:
Unlimited resets are allowed but every Shift R must be followed by a Stop & Go in your Pit Box. If you Reset on the last lap a 30 second time penalty will be awarded.
Incidents should be reported in the usual way.
In line with other divisions the races will be subject to full moderation on lap one.

Also please note that qualifying runs are limited to 12 minutes.

Just to clarify a stop & go in the pit lane within spitting distance of your pit box will be satisfactory. Generally, UKGPL does not encourage spitting & you won't be asked to prove how far you can spit.

Is there a way to actually check if someone used their pit stall or not? I thought only the driver sees the pit board that marks the spot.

Probably by another teams pit crew spitting at you if you don't stop in the right place.

A good example would be Jenson Button's stop at last week's Chinese Grand prix when the whole Red Bull team wet themselves laughing.

I mean by looking at server replay in GPL... I think you can't see where the pit stall of each driver actually is.

Does it really matter where in the lane a stop/go penalty is taken?

No as long as you keep to the side so the entrance/exit is clear.
I think on longer pitstops you do need to use your own box to stop GPL booting you out.

Yes, good point, although you can creep forward a bit each time you get the message to retire until it disappears.

Well, that was a massive disappointment!
The mod is gonna have my arse over rear-ending Ronnie on lap one and Vos on lap 2.. 3rd on the track will be dead last for race one..
Race two, lap two, in fourth place and hanging on the the lead trio when... SCREEN FREEZE!!!!! Not had one for a whole year, no trouble during the test races... No, my f*****g 'pute decides to wait until I'm actually on form and going well when it really matters.... GRRRRRR !!!!!

Not naming names and I'm sure it was just an oversight but can I remind everyone of this;

shift/R
Quote
For divisions that don't run under PRO rules (where Shift-Rs are not possible), a Shift-R is allowed only in a race, not in practice

Despite not getting the best out of each car on the night I still enjoyed both races. I have not seen a replay so cannot comment on any incidents on lap one involving myself, so if the server replay is available can someone post it up? Look at the long term Jason, judging by your performances in these two short blasts the novice season could be a great one for you, well done mate. Apologies for not giving way to Clive at the end of qualifying in race 2. I simply had no qualy time even at that late stage and had to keep going for it.

No worries Ronnie.

If you were on a "fast lap", then there is no obligation on you to give way, as you are fully entitled to make the best qually time you can.
It was up to me to find enough space for my flying lap, which would of course been a 1:06, if you had not slowed me down  Roll Eyes Grin

Only if someone is on an "out lap", or has already compromised their effort by going off, are they expected to get out of the way of someone who is faster. I think there is a section in our "Driving Etiquette" section that covers this.

No-one has an automatic right to the racing line, or any other priveleges during qualification, just because they are faster. But I will add just one comment about drivers leaving the pits during qually.

We can all make mistakes of judgement, but I would advise all drivers leaving ( or about to leave) the pits to check Pribluda to see how much gap they have before the next car comes past. ( Prib is not foolproof, but it is the best we have!!)
Ideally, you need to be sure that you can exit the pits and be clear of T1 before anyone catches you and this might mean that you have to wait for a suitable gap in traffic before leaving the pits. This gives you the opportunity to get up to speed and OFF the racing line in plenty of time, plus it gives the following driver a chance to see you and register that you have made room for him.

If for some reason you emerge from the pits and that first look in your mirrors ( which we all do don't we??!! ahem!!) back along the S/F straight shows a car coming that you had not expected. Just drive off the track!! and get out of the way. Don't try and get around T1 fast enough to stay in front on cold tyres and risk a spin. You will have lost virtually nothing as you are 10 secs into a warm up lap and will probably be able to drive back on to the track and continue once that fast car has passed. Aways being sure that there is not a second car coming through!!.

Interestingly Clive, Ive just started using prib and did exactly that - sat waiting at the end of the pit lane for a suitable gap..... its just good manners not to get in peoples way really, isnt it.
