Moderator's Report

The Porsche Super Cup has proven very popular and we hope to see a long season of close racing.

Sebring was a nice easy introduction to the series with airport runways being used as part of the track, allowing for simple overtaking manouevres in these cars which may as well not have mirrors at all.

Two phrases spring to mind:
(1) To finish first, first you have to finish.
(2) Don't hit your team mate.

Oops!

Server replay time: 0h01m18s

Geoff looks to pass Steve Bird on the inside going into Tower Turn.

Jonny O sees the move developing and aims to follow Geoff through but Geoff decides against it and JonnyO misjudges his braking point and speed and shunts Geoff from behind.

There is clear contact but the incident also seem to be slightly warp affected from the reaction of Geoff's car.

Server replay time: 0h01m18s

Cookie passes Ronnie on the inside at Tower Turn.

Cookie had no overlap at turn in and Ronnie had every right to the racing line.

Cookie should have conceded the corner, especially as the two are team mates, and this is a team based series.

Both continue unaffected.

It has been suggested to me that teams would like to be able to spot their team mates on track which in GPL is not easy.

It is possible for you to change the helmet colour of your driver for these races so you could decide among yourselves what colour each team will use.

I've noticed that a drivers helmet can change colour depending how far away they are and also as these are closed cockpit cars it may not be so easy to see but it could help if teams wanted to do it.

Il be there, fpollicardi...  And thanks for the setup. I hardly would be of any use with my 3.07 laptimes, but whatever. And with gt's i often get random screenfreezes online and offline (one of the reasons i hate them so much) so idk how long I will last in the race...  Embarrassed

edit: make that 3.30 laptimes... maybe 3.45...  :'(
Take easy and try to see the checquered flag, and stay away from those nasty concrete tires and cones, in particular way on the right side where the car is wider respect the point of view in car, a slight touch and these nimble cars became undriveable.
Try to reduce detail slider to 50/70%, and only cars and track on mirrors, it helps at start where all the cars are packed.
Default start grid is a little weird, but it works for online starts.

Nothing, but it doesn't get detected on my new PC, even though the sound card appears to be working OK (it's a gameport wheel). I was going to use my old PC to at least be able to drive, but then it went down due to some electric shock which fried the HDD and something else (doesn't show picture at all when I turn the PC on).

Hi Hristo

There is an adapter possible for Gameport-> USB!
In my pre online times, I used one for my RC-Controler cause the receiver had a Gameport adapter.
Got it at Conrad electronics, for about 20€ called "MANHATTAN". No need for software installation.

Yeah, I've researched about such kind of adapters, but most users report a lack of properly working FF when using one, as well as loss of precision and some buttons not working at all. I've decided to get a Creative Sound Blaster Live 5.1 card and see if its gameport is better supported than my CMI8738's.

Beware, if contemplating a Soundblaster soundcard!  They don't get along well with GPL for some reason.  I could'nt get one to work, even after upgrading to a recommended driver, some years back.  Perhaps the situation has changed - anyone out there using one ATM? Huh

Does anyone happen to have a setup for the Porsche for Sebring?
I'm crap at developing setups so there is no point in me giving you any advice.  However I downloaded Steve Cloyd's WR setup from GPLRank and I found it to be very driveable (no alien tentacles needed).  I recommend starting with that.

Hi Phil,

I tried using Steve's setups from time to time but I can never get a feel for them. I can't notice when the grip drops off and when I have to begin steering into the slide. I've made a setup of my own, but it's hard to get a progressive feel in the tires. It's like either they slide or they stick. I'll have to see in the race Smiley .

I have this card in one of my old PCs, afaik its hard to find the right Creative drivers but I have them somewhere!
Very good for the sound of the card is: kxproject.lugosoft.com/index.php?language=en
The driver of the gameport is integrated in XP OS!

It would be a great race if it had 18 laps Grin

I was able to keep the 1st position at the start and slowly gain advantage from Tommie and Evil. Remaining 5 or 6 laps, approacing the first chicane, my car inexplicably turned to the left alone, without any command from mine. Then I clipped the tires, spun and lost the 10 seconds gap from Tommie.

During the last laps we had a great battle, changing the lead some times. I entered the last lap leading, but made a serious mistake at the same chicane. Trying to put it back to the racing line without losing the lead, crashed into de hay barrier and my car start doing some cartwheels, stopping upside. A melancholy end of the race for me.

At least I lost only one lap and finished 7th, behind my teammates Du Fossa (5th) and Jonny (6th). Great job guys! I feel sorry for wasting a great result with a dumb mistake. Sad

But...that's racing! Grin Congratulations to Tommie for the funny chase and the great win. Grats to the podium and all the finishers too.

See ya on Paul Ricard, where I hope to have a little more luck laugh

Thank you all for your patience with Server 2 that was set incorrectly and thank you to Fulvio for stepping in and helping with a server.

i have changed the settings and the server should be OK next time, but if not, we have a stand by.

I will import the results when I have the replay.

Thanks again Fulvio.

I really enjoyed that. The race in server 2 was exceptionally clean as evidenced by there being  only two retirements from a 12 car starting grid. These cars are just fantastic to race and the Sebring circuit is perfect for online racing, so many passing places! Great to race so close with Fulvio, great that my internet connection held out for once, and great to bring some points home for the Wazas...

Well, a steady if uninspiring comeback to racing at UKGPL. Qualified 8th, much slower than my best in the car here....but not really a problem. Got off the line well and negotiated the first two corners carefully as it was a bit congested in front. Approaching the first 90 I thought about a nibble up the inside of Steve, but bailed early in favour of survival..Smiley
Poor Jonny O behind didn't think I was gonna brake so early and in the midst of avoiding action gave me a little sideswipe which sent me spinning wildly thru the field......and carrying Du Fossa off the track with me. Sorry Jonny, I did think about the pass but Steve had the fast line and pressed his advantage.....leaving me no option but to brake early.
I had no desire to take out my teamie!!.....Sad
Got going again last, and spent a few laps running down the drivers ahead, some making mistakes at the the head of the back straight.....others letting me by, thanks Tim. By the time I ran out of cars that could be seen ahead there were still something like 13 laps to run. Sebring is a diabolically boring track when driving on your own. Concentration wandered, and paired with the rear tyres not liking the punishment dealt out to them, a couple of silly spins ensued at various points of the track. The car survived without any damage however my previously ok connection must have had some sort of brain fart, although the leaders lapped me on the track half way thru the 2nd last lap......it counted me 2 laps down***....never mind, the drive wasn't that deserving anyway. All in all a good race though, everyone behaved themselves well. Congratulations to Tommie, and commiserations to Raoni for his last lap altercation with fodder. It was a sight to see him cartwheeling along the track margin just in front of me. Pretty tough luck to Steve Bird...parking his Porka atop one of those aforesaid items of fodder on the back straight. They make haybales tough in America, don't they? Any wonder McGyver always carried hayband as well as his duct tape.... Grin

***I must have upset the Clark-Hill Ceremonial Gundy in some way....It seems he must have instructed the server to force me to repeat Lap 11. In my replay I did 2 lap 11's, with a combined laptime of 5:47.XX.......Hence the 2 laps down thing. How extraordinary!! Shocked

I was looking forward to these Porsche races with some mixed expectations.
The few practice runs that I did in the Porsche at Sebring were very unpredictable. Sometimes I would get the car around in something like a 2:48 and the next time I struggled to do a 2:52!! Sometimes I would be able to drive through corners and the car felt really hooked up and on another occasion it felt like someone had thrown oil all over the track!!

I fully expected some guys to be running 2:44's or faster for qually and was therefore VERY surprised when my PB lap of 2:46 put me on pole until Rizzo's very last lap snatched it from me ( well done mate  Wink.
When the race started it seemed that I had a different car again and I struggled to stay with Rizzo, even though I was using the exact same setup and fuel load that I had used for qually?? Then Tommy crept up on me from behind and I was forced to defend my 2nd place on some corners which allowed the leader to creep even farther in front. Then I suffered from the GT brake gremlin as we approached the final corner and my car just wanted to plough straight on as if the brakes were locked. I managed to dodge between the cones and avoid any damage, but Tommy was through and gone. That left me in 3rd and running with quie a gap back to Andrea in 4th and I could see Tommy about 2-3secs ahead.
I just could not get the car to lap at anything like my qually pace..maybe trying just a little too hard  Undecided and tried to settle in for a steady 3rd spot. Then I totally lost concentration for a few laps and Andrea was all over me like a rash, until I ran wide and let him through.
It took me a couple of more offs and 2 or 3 laps to regain my composure and start running respectable lap times again and I could see Nicky Ickx getting larger in my mirror until I upped my pace and restored the gap.

Rizzo's incident on the last lap was unfortunate, but grats to Tommy for getting the win and to Andrea for 2nd. I was more than happy with a podium place in a race where I was not expecting to do well.

This has the making of a great season's fun, already looking forward to the next round.
