Moderator's Report

The Porsche Super Cup has proven very popular and we hope to see a long season of close racing.

Sebring was a nice easy introduction to the series with airport runways being used as part of the track, allowing for simple overtaking manouevres in these cars which may as well not have mirrors at all.

Two phrases spring to mind:
(1) To finish first, first you have to finish.
(2) Don't hit your team mate.

Oops!

Server replay time: 0h01m18s

Geoff looks to pass Steve Bird on the inside going into Tower Turn.

Jonny O sees the move developing and aims to follow Geoff through but Geoff decides against it and JonnyO misjudges his braking point and speed and shunts Geoff from behind.

There is clear contact but the incident also seem to be slightly warp affected from the reaction of Geoff's car.

Server replay time: 0h01m18s

Cookie passes Ronnie on the inside at Tower Turn.

Cookie had no overlap at turn in and Ronnie had every right to the racing line.

Cookie should have conceded the corner, especially as the two are team mates, and this is a team based series.

Both continue unaffected.

UKGPL Season 21 Porsche Super Cup
Race 1 Sebring

The first race of UKGPLs first Porsche Super Cup, in fact, the first ever Porsche Super Cup (maybe) takes place at the wide open and high speed Sebring raceway, one of the oldest continuously-operating race tracks in the United States with its first race being run in 1950.

The raceway occupies a portion of Sebring Regional Airport, an active airport for private and commercial traffic that was originally built as a WWII Army Air Forces training base called Hendricks Field. For much of Sebring's history, the track followed a 5.2 miles (8.4 km) layout. In 1967, the Webster Turn right between the hairpin and the top of the track was removed and replaced with the faster Green Park Chicane, which was closer to the hairpin and allowed a flat-out run through a very fast corner to the top of the track and the runway, which made the circuit 50 yards longer.

The race is now considered one of the premier endurance races in the United States and is famous for its "once around the clock" action, starting during the day and finishing at night. For many years Sebring was part of the World Sportscar Championship, so let's all have a great time at this great track.

Download the circuit here:
http://srmz.net/index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_id=13835

Please see the Porsche Super Cup registration thread for an explanation of the Team Setups:
https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=9197.msg166098#msg166098

As the Team Championship will be run over 2 servers we will mix up the teams that use each server for every race so that by the end of the season every team should have raced against every other team. Paul (BadBlood) has a system to do this but the bloody idiot got himself admitted to hospital, so for the first race I will simply put odd team numbers on Server 1 and even team numbers on Server 2.

Please use this thread to enter your expected line up for this event only (not the season), and if you are not able to enter this event, let us know so that we do not end up with 5 teams on Server 1 and 3 teams on Server 2.

If a team does not enter this event, I will move the highest numbered team (i.e. 8 or 9) to even the servers up.

EXPECTED LINE UP
1 TEAM NAME - Pasti Porsche (SERVER 1)

All drivers may join the server immediately but are asked not to go out on track until there are 30 minutes of qualifying left as this helps all drivers join the server successfully.

Please restrict chat to pit messages if necessary, and this includes the end of the race, until all running drivers have completed the necessary laps.

The Porsche Super Cup Races will be run across 2 Servers, under Pro rules and will be approximately 50 minutes in length.
Lap 1 will be fully moderated and thereafter will be reported incidents only.

Ahh it seems you and Phil should both be reserves for the Pasti Porsche's. Will leave Mike to come back to you re that but if you could get one more Pasti you could form a second team.

Yes, Tim is right, this is a team event for teams of 3 drivers and you are a reserve for the Pasti Porsche team.
https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=9260.0

If you can get 2 drivers to join you, you can make a new team of 3 as per the rules above and enter full time.

That would suit us as it would give us 10 teams so we could run 2 servers of 5 teams each.

WOW!!!  Shocked Shocked Shocked  10 teams = 30 drivers who want to take part in this series!!!! and still room for a couple of more teams if the drivers come forward. Wink

Looks like being an absolute blast of a championship with all abilities battling for every point they can get right down through the field. The extra challenge of switching servers and racing different teams through the season makes it even more interesting.  Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

Gosh - this is going to be hard - i am finding it very difficult to find the braking points correctly. The range of times on GPL Rank is amazing - I've got to find 20 secs or so to even be midfield I think.

Back to the practice...

Later: I have found 18 seconds so I will be sub 3:00 in a few hours or so but there is SO much time to be gained and lost on the slower corners - drag race on the straights but its gonna be the bends that decide this one. Any rules on going wide at corners (i.e. outside the hay bales)? and what about cutting the chicane to avoid a crash?

We have rules that cover that. Specifically, cutting the chicane to avoid a crash is fine. Once. It is continual cutting to seek an advantage that will be moderated.

I have found that sometimes I go in a bit hot and can't make the second corner so what happens is that I end up going over the grass after the chicane which effectively cuts the next right hander. There is no advantage since there is no traction but presumably it would be penalised?

Tom took a look at me driving round (UKGPL_3 is up for practice) and shook his head and left.  laugh

I was busy overdriving to a 2:58 and he sauntered round in 2:52 Sad

Thanks for the tips, Tom, appreciate it. I'll try them out later. I was a bit busy to chat...
