Moderator's Report

So the 66 beasties moved to the home of the Moderator, Sweden. Falkenberg is simple to learn but hard to master.

The qualification is dominated by Mr McRae (again) - albeit that he only had a half second advantage this time.

Lap 1 is very busy with cars slippy sliding around. Tim gets a good start and passes Fulvio off the line but ruins it by slightly overcooking it a few corners later - tut tut. Fulvio doesn't want to take too much advantage and has a spin with him. The two, who have qualified so well find themselves at the back. Paul is sitting in a T1 haybale wondering when his luck is going to change but stil ahead of a very lazy Nigel, who is having forty winks in the Pit Lane. Jason wastes his good start with a big slide but recovers. Phil is the big beneficiary of a measured approach and at the end of lap 1, Hristo leads from Ronnie (who has jumped Raoni who nonetheless has improved to third) with Goran in fourth. Martin has made a good start and Phil rounds out the top 6.

Fabio is soon picked off by Tim and Fulvio and so into lap 4. Martin is no longer with us, having visited the infamous Whitfield Haybales! Fulvio goes wide at T1 and loses traction off the grass. Tim is though in a flash and his charge is on!

The next few laps see some clean and not so clean racing! Any little mistakes result in the loss of position. Ronnie slides wide at T1 and Tim makes an amazing pass on Jason around the outside of the last turn. Phil has also gone wide at T1 and loses some places. Jason goes too hot into the esses and takes to the grass. Now there is a Ferrari traffic jam with Ronnie and Fulvio battling hard behind Phil who has cleaned it up and gained places as others fall off. A busy few laps see Ronnie and Fulvio bang wheels. Fulvio spins and loses a lot of time, Ronnie just takes a short cut! Ronnie is having an adventurous lap 8 and has a tangle with Jason for good measure. Finally on lap 9, Phil catches Ronnies affliction and makes two mistakes on the same lap - wide at T1 lets Jason through and then a spin late on in the lap lets the other two Ferraris, who are very busy squabbling with each other, sail by. Phil goes from 5th to eighth. It is that kind of track. Phew!

Tim reels in Goran and pressures him into a small mistake, Goran goes wide and hits the grass. Tim zips by on the inside. The crowd boo!

Fulvio and Ronnie have been battling for several laps and it is very close but Fulvio cannot get by. The battle is increasingly close until Nigel intervenes. Nigel doesn't know too much about it as he is on his lid at the time. Ronnie jinks left but Fulvio can't avoid him. That puts him in the clutches of Phil who sniffs an opportunity. Oops. Fulvio is having a bumpy ride but at least he is not out and now he is behind Phil and Fabio, who was having a quiet race but whose life is getting increasingly interesting. Phil makes a tiny error and Fabio is through but sadly he wastes it the next lap by doing show donuts for the crowd! Not even half way - not even close.

Things calm down until 20 minutes into the race when Ronnie's recovery continues as he catches and passes Jason who is having a steady race. Ronnie has been chasing Jason for seven laps and it is only a tiny error that lets the fast charging Ferrari through on the last corner. Up ahead at almost the exact same moment, Raoni finally makes an error and goes wide out of T1. With no traction off the green stuff Tim has his chance but nearly overcooks it into T2 and gets very sideways. Raoni cedes the pass rather than take them both out and Tim's renaissance is complete. P2. Amazingly in view of the first dozen laps, that is largely the way it stays.

Lap 41 and Raoni's engine lets go and he coasts to a halt on the pit straight. Fabio retires about the same time. The last competetive overtake of the race is claimed by Fulvio, who takes Phil's place on lap 47.

All that is left if for Hristo, who has been imperious, to add a Fastest Lap to his collection. 42.137! Nearly half a second quicker than anyone else can manage. Finally on lap 64, he passes Tim, who bows to the inevitable and moves aside on the last corner, to lap the field. One word. Dominant.

Paul "Badblood" Whitfield

Server replay time: 0h00m55s

At the start of the race Paul is behind Lupo but does a better start and when approaching T1 is alongside Lupo slightly ahead. To have a better line for T1 he moves to the left but have not made a clear pass on Lupo but closes the door for him. Lupo tries to brake but too late and the two make contact.

Server replay time: 0h09m58s

Phil makes an overtaking attempt on Fulvio down to T7 and gets alongside. Fulvio is not aware but turn in as usually, at the same time Phil is struggleing a bit to keep the line and they make contact.

Well - that was disappointing. Sad

Practised hard for this and got a decent setup that I had confidence in. Only problem was I hadn't read the rules and I didn't realise that the Honda was not allowed Sad So took the Fezza - major guesses at setup and I got a 44:92 which was a PB. Not last either although if Phil had had the proper qualifying time he would have trounced me. I find T1 very hard so at the start I got good traction and got past Nigel. I braked early and caught him by surprise. Next thing I found myself beached on the haybales. Bugger. Didn't even make T1.

It can only get better.

Hmmmm Turns out it wasn't Nigel - the hunt is on...

That was incredibly hard work.. I'm now physically exhausted! All in all a great race and Im very pleased with 5th place although my pace at the end was 2secs/lap slower than in the first half of the race, such was effort to keep the BRM on track!
Love the circuit and great to see so mch clean racing on such a difficult track.

Another miss.  I am having radiostatic surgery (Gamma Knife) on my brain to remove a 5mm tumor.  I'll still be on the table when the flag drops. Hope to make the next race.

Not last either although if Phil had had the proper qualifying time he would have trounced me.
I doubt that mate, although I did do qually on full tanks.  I didn't have time to put some laps in on low fuel and I always like to do the last 10 mins of qually on full tanks.  Just so I don't get used to braking on empty tanks with hot tyres and then jump straight into a car with full tanks and cold tyres for the start.

Race was quite entertaining for me because I had someone to race with for a change.  Fulvio still managed to beat me in his 11 cylinder Ferrari but it was nice to see someone take the chequered flag just ahead of me, normally everyone is long gone Roll Eyes

Sorry about the contact at T7 on L12 Fulvio, I've reported the incident.

Np Phil, after have seen replay I can say it wasn't all your fault. Just wrote the answer to the report and I want to apologize for turning in not aware you were already on my side. I wasn't aware that I had lost so much power after the previous crash with a car on its roof, and I didn't think you were so faster than me.
Please when a driver is stuck on his roof, don't wait ages to hit ESC  Wink

Aha - Fabio, J'accuse.  Tongue

Too cautious at T1 and the car pulled left due to (I think) adverse camber - I'd noticed if I braked too hard I went off left - that left Fabio nowhere to go and he gently nudged me in the direction of the aforementioned hay bales. Serves me right really. I told Goran to do it differently next time after spending some time tut tutting at his side by side with Tim at Panchine and then I do exactly the same at Falkenberg and I also asked for a nice big crash at T1 L1 to shorten my report!

Would have been nice to make 1 corner though...

@FP - Nigel said he had to hit Esc a few times before it would quit, so he did try...  angel

Arriving at a track in the dead of night, does not bode well for a successful outing, as there's no night mod for 1966, nor even for GT's yet.

My black screen was a mystery, and I was forced to pull the plug on my new land line, and eventually, to re-fire the system.  I'd guess, that wonderful Windows decided to throw a wrench, while doing some Spring cleaning, or something.  So there was much grumbling hereabouts, before the specified light of day was sorted.

With precious little time to acclimatize to the traffic, my well tuned Ferrari was now mediocre, at best!  Track conditions had changed, and I'd only time to cobble together a quick fix, for a position towards the rear of the grid. Undecided

The start of the race saw the track ahead open up, through the misfortunes of war.  I'd just latched onto Goran's tale in 5th, when the first nervous twitch on an unrefined setup, threw me into the hay bales clutches, in a rather unrefined fashion!

Conformation here, for any doubters, that a car can sometimes behave differently once on-line.  In these 66ers, we often lack a practice Server until shortly before a race, and in this case, I was unable to contest with Hristo for this reason . . . amongst others. Sad

As I said before, you don't need a practice server to practice online. Just Host your own session and hotlap!

My race was good, but really exhausting. I've been out of practice for a while due to my PC problems and so the toll on my body was a bit higher than usual, but the car handled well and the setup delivered very consistent lap times, regardless of fuel load. The only thing I changed from qualifying to race was the ride height, to avoid bottoming out at T2.

Early on I could pull away quite easily, much to my surprise, but I suppose it was down to people having problem behind me. Traffic was an issue and I had to be cautious all the time, as some people would stick to their line but others were eager to let me through by moving left or right, so it was a bit of a guess work. One particular moment I nearly hit a backmarker on the exit of T2 when he decided to move to the right, despite the fact that I had already committed to that line. Good thing these cars are responsive though.

Near the end of the race I had a good scrap with Tim, who despite being almost a lap down was just as fast as me, but the extreme slipstream in the 66 mod gave me a bit of an edge and blue flags forced Tim to ease off and let me through.  Grin He managed to keep up closely for the rest of the race though.

Feels good to be back in the hunt now that my wheel is working again, looking forward to the next race!
