Thanks for the congratulations. An unexpected win but like they say, it’s not how it’s how many.
I’ll take it.
With two weeks to practice, SBRC was able to sort out quite a nice Ferrari setup, having started with a Stig car that we then modified.
I had established early in my track learning phase the limit of how fast I could go in the Z06 and the Ferrari was so much easier to drive that there was no competition on car choice.
I did all my practice about a week ago and had got bored with nobody to race. I had also done a practice AI race on x4 tyre and fuel which showed that I could get to the end on the soft tyres. So bored that I did a GPL GT race on Wednesday night instead of more practice at Jerez.
Then disaster! Right at the end of practice I had a screen freeze that needed a reset. I managed to reboot and re-entered the race, with about twelve minutes of qually on the clock, only to find that my steering wheel and pedals were behaving very strangely. So, back out to Windows and this time around all was well.
Half of qually was now gone but I managed a fast enough lap to claim 2nd on the grid. This proved to be a benefit as I could see the lights, although they took some finding.
At the start I made use of my soft tyres to go as fast as I could whilst the rest fought amongst themselves. Mark held on to me at first but then made a mistake that let me get away by the tune of 14 seconds or so. Even after my tyres were shot, I was still able to keep the gap at a safe figure of around 10 seconds.
But then I messed up the last long left and suddenly the three of them, Matt, Miguel and Mark were only six seconds away.
Eeeeeek!
Looking at the replay, I don’t think that their tyres were much better than mine and I was able to stay in front to the line.
Phew! Had me sweating there!
SBRC will be working on its 911 as of tonight. Should have a TT lap available by Saturday.
