Moderator's Report

Our intrepid Porsche drivers wanted to test the top speed of their chariots on the long straight of Kyalami. Unfortunately it also has some corners too which seemed to confuse one or two of them.

Nicky felt the need to overtake by going through rather than around and Clive decided to test out the Rally Cross course but found it to be much overrated and eventually returned to the tarmac.

Server replay time: 0h00m50s

Hristo is seen to drive through the pit wall and at one point half of his car is on the wrong side of it.
The rules about the pit wall are very clear. All drivers are requested to have it in place so that everybody has the same amount of track available to them.
Drivers are able to race without it but if they cross the line where the pit wall should be then they are using a wider track that is not available to anyone else and they gain an unfair advantage.

Tom may or may not have had the wall in place but as he follows Hristo away from the start he is extremely close to it without actually crossing it.

Hristo - DQ

Server replay time: 0h01m31s

Nicky gets a run on Vos at Sunset but does not have any overlap at turn in. Vos takes the racing line and closes the gap where Nicky's nose is.

There is contact and Vos is punted off.

Vos has asked for no penalty to be given and Nicky has apologised so I will waive the penalty for the collision, but as this was lap 1 when all drivers are asked to be extra careful I will still apply the Lap 1 incident penalty place.

Server replay time: 0h32m56s

Jason is being lapped by Tom and Hristo and gets hit by Tom at The Esses.

The two leaders catch Jason at Sunset and Tom closes right up on him through the Esses just as Jason has a wobble at the apex and is slow out giving Tom little time to react as he is so close. Tom recovers but Hristo nips through and takes the lead that he would keep.

Jason could possibly have let the leaders past before Clubhouse but probably between Clubhouse and The Esses, however he may have been waiting for a much better opportunity where he could let both past on the longest straight in GPL.

It is not possible to see Blue Flags on replays so it is difficult to know if Jason had ignored them, and of so, how many?

Tom and Hristo feel Jason should have let them by sooner but Jason feels a little patience from Tom would have paid off and he would have let them both by cleanly. I think both are valid arguments and both could face a penalty.

This incident is perhaps more notorious for Jason's Vodka fuelled report that all moderators have printed, laminated and stuck on their walls. High up where the children can't read it of course.

Our rules say that moderators need to use discretion in all such Blue Flag cases and I will try to use a little more discretion and a little less vodka than Jason who said (among other things)

"Is this the Kya Porka race? ...."

"Full respect TO .... whatever his nabme is for for me foe me foero me for pushing me outta thae way on lap, Iduuno 26 or sumthing, .... pld fella! BTW I'm pissed - saturday night aint a good time for reAsoned debate :)"

"[forgive the spelling but tnis vodka is very strong""""!!!!)"

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h45m07s

Nicky rear ends Roberto as he is lapping him along the straight.

Roberto has stayed right and given Nicky the racing line but Nicky is trying to get a little extra slipstream and simply moves across to pass too late, hitting Roberto.

Both continue.

As Norbert approaches the aftermath of the collision he slows but Hristo who is behind him does not and just manages to squeeze through the gap between the stricken Roberto and the careful Norbert.

If Hristo had made contact with either one of them he could well have faced a penalty for a lack of care approaching an incident even though he was not shown any yellows.

Server replay time: 0h45m50s

Nicky has his third incident of the race while being lapped by Hristo who seems a little impatient and goes for a pass expecting Nicky to stay wide.

Nicky thinks it is a pass for position and takes the racing line but makes contact with Hristo before being knocked from the track.

Hristo continues apparently unaffected and Nicky recovers.

Moderator's Report

Server replay time: 0h01m03s

Jonny O goes too hot into Crowthorne on Lap 1 trying a pass on Fabio. He takes to the grass on the inside and Fabio has a little wobble, either in reaction to the move or a because of a slight loss of control. This wobble unsettles Hendy who taps Fabio before taking to the grass on the outside.

Jonny got away with it but he was way too hot into T1 on Lap when we always ask drivers to take extra care.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h01m15s

Clive has spun at Crowthorne and tries to rejoin before Barbeque, but on lap 1 and with all of the field now making their way past this is a very risky move and he would be well advised to either wait or rejoin after Barbeque.

To be fair to Clive he does join off the racing line on the outside of the bend hoping everybody else will be on the inside where the racing line is, but unfortunately Fabio seems to be going too fast to make Barbeque and looks to be going wide anyway before he hits Clive who drives back on track right in front of him.

I'm going to waive the rejoin penalty for Clive as he did take precautions to join safely, and I am not going to penalise Fabio for the contact as he did not expect Clive to rejoin in front of him.

You will be glad to know that Clive did eventually make it back on to the track, somewhere between Jukskei and Sunset.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h01m20s

While Clive and Fabio are having their issues, Skymole is having issues of his own, and considering that this is lap 1 in a Pro race where damage can mean retirement, he is taking far too many risks.

He attempts a pass on the inside at Jukskei that he gives up by taking to the grass and then Sunset where he goes from the grass on the left, all the way across the track to the inside and passes 2 cars.

Server replay time: 0h01m55s

Du Fossa spins at The Esses and is hit by Stefano as he blocks the track.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h02m12s

Hendy gets way too close to Roberto Vianna into the Leeukops bend and shunts him from behind.

This kind of incident is easily avoided and is needless as they are about to enter the longest straight in GPL where a pass will be possible without needing to close right up here.

Server replay time: 0h17m37s

Du Fossa and Fran head for T1 with Du Fossa ahead on the inside but Fran does his usual late brake and draws level on the outside.

As they make their way around the corner Fran moves slightly over the centre line into Du Fossa's side just as Du Fossa oversteers slightly knocking Fran from the circuit.

Fran was always taking a risk by going around the outside of this corner but having said that, the server shows no actual contact with Du Fossa keeping a tight line.

Fran submitted a replay that shows Du Fossa moving towards him and making clear contact.

This is as clear case of warp as you will ever see so any penalty shall be mitigated.

I don't really like your views on patience on these matters.

It is a matter of opinions, You can't always pass at the first, second or even third corner that you catch a backmarker.

I mentioned that Jason should have probably let you both through before the Esses, I think I would have done, but that's why I mentioned the long straight approaching, he may have been waiting for that but he got rear ended before he got there.

Not to mention in the accident with Nicky he opened the door and I just went through it, without any loss of control whatsoever and he simply turned into me, but then I'm being impatient? Oh please...

Again, it's a matter of opinions, you didn't lose control and Nicky did turn in but you didn't have any overlap at all at turn, accepting that it was a lapping and not for position. You may well have passed cleanly if you had followed him through Sunset and done it at Clubhouse, so a little patience would have meant no contact.

It wasn't a criticism it was an observation, and I think a valid one.

It's also funny you say I would've been penalized

No, I said you may have. As the mod says, we do have rules for Lack of care approaching an incident, and you could clearly see a car blocking half of the track.

Again, a valid observation.

it's an exact repeat of what happened a few seasons ago in a 67 race at Road Atlanta, where JB held me for more than half a lap

I disagree, this was 2 corners, not really the same at all.

Hristo - the difference in speed wasn't all that obvious to me... You and Tom were not near enough for a pass in the tight left hander before the chicane, you WERE close enough going into the chicane but I find there is only one line through the chicane which is why I stayed tight on the exit and lifted.I HAD intended to let you dift past on the main straight but the chicane ws the 4th blue flag so I thought I ought to move over there instead...
BTW, Hristo, a couple of months ago I seem to recall you complaining that backmarkers continually dived out of your way instead of just letting you pass them cleanly, after all you have the speed to pass easily so why should anyone overly compromise their own race unnecesarily? I remember that post well .....

I was in doubt amongst to struggle to maintain the first place (because pribluda didn't show me Hitchov at all so I was virtually in 1st place) and to be conservative trying to bring home at least the second place because at the beginning of the last 2 laps my fuel gauge (pribluda) was indicating I was going to finish my race with less than 1 liter of fuel. So I decided conservatively reducing my engine revs permitting Tristan to overtake me just at the last lap and so ending anyway with 3/4 of a liter in my tank  Shocked Sad  Tongue
That was not properly a good fighter behaviour but... like someone said...it is better to be a lion for 1 day or to be a hen for 100 days ? ...maybe it is better to be a dog for 50 days !  Wink
YahooOOooOoooo...oops...GooOOoooOggle !

P.S.: my top speed was almost 10 km/h lesser than the one of Tristan down the main straight !  Shocked

Thanks for the report Mike. I don't fully agree but respect your decision, your the mod after all not me Cheesy .

Some background info: At the start, I actually hit the pit wall when I was following Hristo so I'm glad I didn't get DQ'ed by mistake! Cheesy .

I saw in the replay with Jason that his car climbed the curb on exit and lost speed, so that's why I accidentally hit him. Unfortunately I didn't quite recover as my engine lost power and I lost about 3 seconds a lap from that point on. I knew during the race H would be DQ'ed and I would win, but decided to attack regardless. It cost me a win but I did manage to salvage 3rd (only just) so all is well Smiley .

Tom, I noticed you had the power loss afterwards and didn't quite know what to do about you holding me up on the straight but being so much quicker around the rest of the track...

I remember that post well .....

Jason, 4 blue flags? Do you know why were weren't close enough to you? Because Axel noticeably eased off a little to give you some space and to avoid bad surprises. I doubt you would like that instead the leading car glues to your back and haunts you all over the place. If you were aware of us behind and you had 4 blue flags, why did you decide to suddenly ease off at the most inappropriate place, at the chicane, where there's only one line? It completely caught Axell off-guard and I was lucky to go through. To me it was a lot more than just 2 corners that we stood behind, but even so, if you had just maintained your pace (and that covers the 2nd part of your post) there would've been no incident. Instead you kept going at speed for 4 blue flags straight (in your own words), then you suddenly decelerated in a bad place and it led to an accident. This is the lack of predictability I'm talking about all the time... Of course, it's completely different if you simply lost it at the chicane and you were not trying to let us through, but it seemed that way. Again, my intention here is to say how it looks from the lapping driver point of view, not start a personal attack or something, and it's with hope that you can learn something from it.

@Mike - in the case with Nicky, you're saying I should have had a 6th sense that after opening the door Nicky would decide to close it back up? It really appeared he knew I was about to lap him and that it was for that reason he opened the door and/or braked earlier. Besides, he should have received at least 1 blue flag until we reached the corner. Anyway, not that I was affected and not that it matters now that I'm DQ, but I'm raising these issues so hopefully they can be prevented from happening as often in the future.

No, Hristo, you have it wrong. My intention was to stay tight on the exit of the chicane and dawdle along to the next corner, expecting Tom and yourself to drift to the outside on the normal line and sweep past. I didnt quite get the exit right and caused Tom a bit of grief in doing so. Again, I point out that the first place I really thought about where to be lapped was that tight left hander before the chicane but Tom wasn't quite in the right place for a pass, and TBH neither was I.. We then have the  chicane which isnt a good place to be passed and so I did what I thought was the best compromise for all of us but didnt quite get it right.
