Moderator's Report

There were no reported incidents in this race and after watching the race through in fast forward I do not think anyone performed a Shift-R!!
At this rate we moderators will be made redundant!!

However,we did note there were a few unreported incidents where competitors felt compelled to exchange paint samples, even if the intended recipient was not looking their way.

I think Geoff should be congratulated on an excellent rejoin on lap 24. It is worth looking at this because, he managed to park himself in just about the only blind spot of the whole Kyalami track, but he waits rather than dive straight back into the fray and times his escape across the tarmac onto the run off on the outside before slipping back in to the race. No medals, No points but a hint of a grin from the mods.:o)

Round 5 and into the southern hemisphere. Another track we know well. Kyalami in sunny South Africa.
This track with its long straight and winding corners will offer something different for all the cars and braking for T1 with some of the heavier tanks will be a challenge.

You all know the difficulties with the poor rear view in these cars so please be aware that the car in front maybe cannot see you and does not know you are there. Particularly on the first racing lap! The use of the "virtual mirror" may not be exactly historically accurate but it makesthings a lot safer..it is your choice.

*** NOTE***
Ensure that you have the pit wall in place. Those without the pit wall will risk disqualification. Advantage can be gained without it and in particular, drivers should ensure that they know where the pit entry is WITH THE PIT WALL IN PLACE

The standard Papyrus track has a pit wall but there are patches available that remove it. The absence of a pit wall will not stop you from joining the race but anybody seen by the moderators miraculously driving through the pit wall on the server replay will risk disqualification.

Follow these instructions to restore the wall if you have a mod that has removed it:
METHOD 1:
To place a wall between the pits and the track, rename or remove the kyalami.trk and kyalami.3do files from your kyalami folder.
METHOD 2:
To reinstall the original Papyrus Armco, rename or remove the Armco_s.mip file from your kyalami folder.

HAVING THE PIT WALL IN PLACE DOES MAKE THE PIT ENTRY A REAL CHALLENGE IN THE GT CARS. SOME DRIVERS WILL NEED TO MAKE PITSTOPS DURING THE RACE AND WILL BE SLOW ON THE APPROACH TO THE PIT ENTRY. PLEASE WATCH OUT FOR SLOW CARS AT THE KINK ON THE S/F STRAIGHT.
Race List = IGOR
Server = UKGPL_T7_2
IP address = 62.149.202.168
Race date = Sunday June 26th
Time = 21:00 UK time (21:00 GMT)
Track = Kyalami [Papy original track]
Race length = approx 50 minutes (34 laps)
Variant = GT mod
Damage Model = Intermediate (see rules below re resets)
Qualifying time = 35 minutes. Don't start until 30 mins left on clock to allow everyone to join.
Password: see above
Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page

There will be rolling starts for all races with full moderation of both the warm-up and first lap.

Guidelines for rolling starts...

The car on pole will lead off the grid and maintain a steady pace for the 1st lap around 175kph
All drivers should form up in single file behind him leaving 3-4 car lengths between each car.
There is NO OVERTAKING on the 1st lap until the exit of the last corner.
It is the reponsibility of the lead car to ensure that all drivers are with him as he approaches the final corner.
Racing and overtaking begin AFTER the exit of the last corner, so you may overtake between the exit of the last corner and the S/F line.

Any driver who loses his position on the rolling lap, by going off, blowing his engine or through contact with another car ( regardless of fault) must rejoin at the back of the field.
Incidents on the rolling lap ( Lap 1) will be fully modded and anyone found to have caused another competitor to lose position through bad driving will be penalised appropriately.
Also, please make sure that you know which car you should be following on the rolling lap, so that you do NOT get out of position.

The teams have been chosen and the cars are polished and ready to go.

TEAMS

RED TEAM          HRISTO ITCHOV,  Evilclive, Paul Badblood
 Chap 2F / Mirage / Porsche

BLUE TEAM        SAMB, Fulvio, Happy Al
Chap 2F/ Lola/ Mirage

GREEN TEAM     ZACHARIA BLITO, Phil Thornton, Axel Cookie
Chapp 2F/ Ferrari P4 / Mirage

ORANGE TEAM        NIGEL SMITH, Tim FMG,Dave RAndall
Ferrari P4 / Chapp 2D / Ford GT MK2.

GREY TEAM     Captained by Tim Vosblod who is looking after the part time drivers who cannot be sure to attend every race.

The cars for the Grey team for this season will be
Chapperal 2D
Mirage
Ford GT40 MK1

a NEW pink team HAS BEEN FORMED TO ACCOMODATE A FEW MORE OF THE TEMPORARY DRIVERS IN THIS SERIES

The Cars for the Pink Team are
Ferrari
Mk2 GT40
Porsche

All drivers must drive all 3 team cars at least 3 times. At the end of the 10 race championship any TEAM found to be in breach of this rule will have its BEST TEAM points result of the season cancelled. Each driver will drop his worst 2 results, in line with the other championships, this gets over the problem of missed races and 2 man teams looking for a sub at the last minute.

The events will be run on Intermediate damage and allow ONE Shift-R with a compulsory 10 second pit stop regardless of fault. (This means 10 seconds in your pitbox without moving). Any driver who fails to take a 10 second stop within 1 lap after a Shift-R, will be disqualified from the results. For this division the full moderation of lap one now applying across all divisions will include both the warm up lap and lap one proper.

Please check the Season 21 pages for details regarding rules and the GT Team Challenge pages in particular.

RE - the pit wall --

ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND Huh??

The pit lane entry is LETHAL at Kyalami... last season in the Novs, there was at least one crash caused by a racer having to lift right after the kink in order to make the pit entry.. Its even harder to make in the GT`s!!!  There will be accidents! There will be tears!

It's the same for everyone, Jason. It's up to the driver to slow down before entering the pit lane. Not to mention not everyone has the non-pitwall version installed (Kyalami with a pit wall is GPL's default), so it's unfair to them if others are allowed to use the patched version. As long as you indicate you're about to slow down just before the last corner and keep to the inside, perhaps half on the curb/grass there, it's not so bad.

You will only need to make a pitstop if you mistreat your car or get"involved" with someone else............so any visits to the pits will be under your control....ish lol.

But seriously, as Hristo points out, it will be the same for everyone and I have added a note to the announcement above to be aware cars entering the pits during the race.

GMT = GPL Meetup Time....  Cheesy

Thanks for pointing that out though Clive. That is a minor error in light of what nearly went through...

Bit late off the mark on this,  but seems to me, there were no maximum pit lane speed limits, back in '67.  So, to reduce risk of main straight carnage, a minimum entry speed of 80mph would be good.  Sort out the men, from the dearly departed!    angel angel angel   Mandatory for the rolling lap?  I'm wearing my helmet, so no point throwing things! Bad luck there Axel...

Clive - I find all the GTs are hard to drive, you kinda have to gently guide them around a bit. I do find however that the Porka loves a good ragging Cheesy

Sideways and smooth Clive  Grin
And if it has a honking great V8 then use the torque instead of ragging it everywhere!

Should have done much better than that.  Once I start believing I can actually drive at a semi-reasonable pace I might actually get a decent finish!

Sorry to Jase for ramming his car when I totally missed my brake point.  Luckily it flipped 360 with apparently no damage!

and the race according to Blito....
Fairly pleased to have made it to the grid tonight after some last minute pedal issues - I had inadvertantly switched the wheel to PS3 mode which scrambles its PC controller settings... Lucky its only a few minutes to reinstall the controller!
So... my 10th place grid slot immediately began 9th when Axel had his CTD... Settled into a nice rythm following Uncle Phil's Ferrari..  9th became 8th when Steve had an off-road excursion... then became 9th again when he rear-ended me hard at .. ummm. wassname corner.. you know, the real tight left hander!
My car rolled over but landed on its wheels and amazaingly wasnt damaged! The next few laps Steve and I battled, swapping places twice but eventually I managed to drop him and set off after Phil.
8th became 7th when I eventually caught Phil and made an easy pass thanks to the back marker who briefly held him up - not deliberately but enough for me to get close enough to make a pass 4 corners later Smiley
And that, more or less, was that.... a fairly comfy drive in the 2F to a satisfying 7th place .

Well enjoyed that and felt I held up the honour of the Reds against the Blues. Al and I were very evenly matched but he just had SO much extra speed down the long straight. I led him for a while though. I got a bit enthusiastic and tapped him from behind when approaching said long straight, felt the only thing to do was wait for him. May have cost me a place... I was only 4 secs behind at the end. Didn't stop me knocking him off again though... Sad Sorry, Al. Fun racing though. Hope he enjoyed it as much as I did. Apart from that had a cracking time trying to hold Dave Randall off (pointless though it was really) - think I blocked him off a bit - I may have to report myself. And finally, apologies to Geoff, each time he caught me I was in a full on battle of my own but I did try to leave you room, mate Wink honest! Sorry if I cost you anything.
