Moderator's Report

This season's outing at Albi contained a great deal of action and quite a few battles of note - unfortunatly it also featured several incidents.
Lap 1 was clear of any unusual happenings barring FMG's Brabham doing a spot of hedge-diving in T1 for no apparent reason, the pack then split into roughly 3 groups for the race proper.
Eventually come the flag Raoni took the win followed home by Hristo and Juha.

Server replay time: 0h10m51s

Having just been passed by Raoni, Natan takes a slower than usual line through Virage du parc; this allows Hristo to approach and put himself close behind Natan in a position to challenge Natan on entry into Virage du Karting (the final hairpin).
Natan enters the corner wide and Hristo naturally takes the opportunity to take the inside line, however Natan then appears to slow additionally mid corner to turn in across the front of Hristo - the server replay shows that Natan has slowed to approximatly 10mph less than his normal speed through Karting (42-44mph as opposed to 52-55mph).
Hristo is commited to his line by this point and has no-where to go and so contacts the rear of Natan's car.

Given the circumstances leading to the contact I feel it would be unfair to penalise Hristo - when racing closely for position if you make a mistake and open the door for an opponent it is imperative that you maintain your (new) line rather than attempting to return to the optimal one, doing so will normally slow you more than mearly continuing on your new course and can often be very risky.
Regardless of the skill level of your opponent you should ALWAYS expect them to capitalise on your mistakes, and with GPL's net-code if you've run wide then it will normally be yourself (as was the case here) who suffers if you turn back in on an opponent.
Also repeated driving in this manner could be construed as blocking as you are changing your lines as a reaction to your opponent.

Server replay time: 0h20m54s

This time it is Raoni's turn to make a bad exit from Virage du parc, again it is Hristo who is close behind and ready.
On this occaision Raoni maintains a gap ahead of Hristo on the run to Karting, and so chooses to follow the racing line across to the outside of the circuit as he is entitled.
Hristo meanwhile is simultainiously trying to position himself to the outside of Raoni obviously hoping to outbrake him into the outside of the corner.
Too late Hristo realises that the door is closed and he has no safe way of making the pass - he does the correct thing and allows his car to exit to the outside of the track to avoid possible contact with with Raoni.

Hristo then rejoins and continues unharmed.

Neither driver actually did anything 'wrong' in this situation, however it does serve as a reminder to never assume you know what line your opponent is going to take before he has actually taken it - something which is much easier to say while wearing the 20/20 hindsight glasses we moderators are issued with than it is while actually racing.

Server replay time: 0h45m52s

Due to a number of mistakes by Juha on the previous lap Natan has just caught and passed him. Juha is closely following Natan onto the front straight and makes use of Natan's slipstream to position himself for a passing maneouver into Double Droite.
Natan takes the outside line while Juha takes the inside line.
As soon as he starts braking Natan turns in towards the apex - this causes Juha to have to perform an emergency stopping proceedure to avoid Natan and he takes to the grass on the inside of the turn to do so.
Natan's steep approach into DD causes him to run very wide in the mid-point which in turn forces him to slow alot to make the turn - Juha is still inside and having collected himself from his own braking/evasive maneouver takes the clear opportunity presented to him as Natan has left the door wide open.
Again Natan slows far more than nessicary and turns in on Juha who by this point is traving far faster and has pulled alongside - the resulting contact flips Natan into the armco and ends his race.

As with the incident with Hristo this collision was avoidable. Having run wide and not being able to see his opponent in his mirrors Natan should have stayed wide on the assumption that Juha is somewhere beside him, as opposed to slowing additionally and turning in desperatly to reclaim the inside line - had he done so then this incident would likely not have happened.

Again - it is imperative that while battling with another driver you do not unexpectedly change lines mid-corner. If you no longer know where your opponent is then the only safe thing you can do is maintain your line around the inside/outside half of the track and make the most of it.

UKGPL Season 21, 65 Professionals Trophy

Welcome to round 5 here in sunny Albi!
It's another great track and should provide some more very close racing - If it's even half as good as Silverstone apeared to be then it should still be awesome  Grin

The aim is to review the race the following weekend so incident reports should be submitted within five days of the race (ie the following Friday). We're hopeful most incidents can be resolved amicably and recommend a days deep breath with a replay review before posting. A sorry in the forum won't be taken as an automatic admission of guilt by the moderators.
The race will be run on PRO Damage.

Reserve drivers should not join the server until there are only 30 minutes of qualifying left so as to give the FULL TIME drivers chance to join, and drivers are not to go out on track until there are 30 minutes of qualifying left as this helps all drivers join the server successfully.

Please restrict chat to pit messages if necessary, and this includes the end of the race, until all running drivers have completed the necessary laps.

Not a massive fan of this track though its pretty good fun.

My race was decided early on, got an Ok start and was up into about 6th, but due to the traffic around me i couldn't really hear my engine note. (I drive a lot by the engine note sound). My hesitation and caution during the opening 3 corners allowed those in front to get away and that was that, though i'd have been pushing it to go faster than them, i may have been able to hold on (just) for the first few laps.

I then found neutral instead of 4th gear on 2 sucessive laps and got overtaken each time. I managed to catch Tim and though we were both braking under control at the end of the straight. There was slight contact as we turned into the double right hander.

The rest of the race was spent battling with Policardi. Great fun all the way. He beat me in the end when i made a slight error on gear change on the entry to the straight, but he deserved it. We were a match for each other.

Well done to the poduim boys. Good Fun race.  Wink

Annoyed to have thrown 6th place away with 5 laps left but overall not a bad effort.

Most of my race was spent chasing the Fulvio-Clutch battle, I was slightly quicker but every time I got close I made a mistake. Shame as I would have liked to have joined in guys, it looked like great fun.

Anyway well done to Raoni on his first win, see you all at the next one.

Server replay is in the normal place so try not to overwhelm me!

My race went from ok (i.e. about where I expected on this track) to downright terrible. All starting at T1 where having jumped up into 4th/5th I ran too wide leaving room for the car inside and clobbered the haybales hard enough to damage my steering  cursing
As I perposely kept the car up against the hay to avoid bouncing back out again I also found myself pretty much last when I did rejoin Sad

From there after much battleing I got back upto about 6th I think chasing Clive and Clutch, Clive made things easy and span off, after a while I followed suit by turning in slightly too hard while fighting Clutch and as a result got punted off at DD (Not your fault at all Clutch, poor awareness by me there Sad ), thankfully this didn't cause any obvious additional damage but I was now even further back with Clive charging up behind me.
Can't remember this part clearly but do remember battling a BRM and something else before loosing it bigstyle at the final hairpin and damaging my car even more - letting at least 2 cars through in the process  Roll Eyes
At some point in all of this there was my spin in the middle of the final turn that clive avoided while Goran didn't (sorry  Embarrassed)

From then on it was a quiet race for me attempting to reel in the car ahead while holding off (Ross?) who was some distance behind - only moment of interest before the finish was when Raoni somehow managed to take me out at DD while I was holding a very wide line for him  Huh
I think I'll have to report that one really as it was completely avoidable (Someone else will have to moderate it though  - which will save me some work at least Grin ).

As I'm at the back of the grid all I can really say is well done to the podium and to everyone else aswell, especially Goran for eventually getting that damn Waza!  Grin

Not sure that was me Tim. From what I recall, you caught me when I spun for the second time but I was able to repass using the BRM's extra power.

Soon after that you disappeared from my mirrors, probably when you had a spin of your own. After that it was Clive who was closest to me but I was able to pull a gap whilst closing up to Clutch and Fulvio, until my last spin which cost me two places  Angry

Mod report published  Smiley

I really don't understand how you can keep excusing Natan's obviously aggressive defensive driving, because he does this ALL the time. Although he was the one who felt the consequences of such maneuvers in this race, that's not always the case (as you'll see for the Salzburgring race). Do we only penalize a driver when he's not the victim, regardless of fault?  Roll Eyes You know neither of these two situations were racing incidents because what Natan did was intentional...

Anyway, looking forward to your Salzburgring report.

is this satire ?

why would a victim be penalized ? and if a victim why do you say "regardless of fault?" because a victim can't be at fault ( in the normal sence ) .

I say "victim" in the sense that it's the driver who is taken off by the incident while the other driver continues unharmed. I see what you mean though, so maybe I should've said it differently.

I see normal communication is impossible with you. It's obvious you're not interested in adding to the discussion, but just try and act like a smart ass. And forgiveness? Don't make me laugh, I never asked for any because there's nothing I need to be forgiven for - if you had the clarity of mind to follow my logic, you would've known what I mean without me needing to clarify. Maybe you should give me an example of how good your bulgarian is before you judge my english.  Smiley
