Moderator's Report

A popular circuit last season for the Novices makes a welcome return.

Cookie makes a good getaway as Karliss spins his tyres too much off the line allowing Cookie to just about dive into T1 ahead of him.

Karliss did well to avoid a collision and the brave move could have ended in disaster.

Server replay time: 0h01m20s

Fran Molteni tries to follow Blito past Norbert into Double Droite. A combination of a slipstream from Fabio, who he has just overtaken, and cautious braking from Norbert (understandable on lap one), means that Fran closes very quickly on Norbert who has little chance to react and make room. As a result Norbert turns in and the two collide.

Fran was very hard and late on the brakes especially as this was Lap 1 when we always advise drivers to take extra care, and that is the reason that the race post had this:
"As always I would remind you to take care on Lap 1 through the intitial section at Courbe Armand Brouzes and again under braking for Double Droite de l’Aerodrome where the field is likely to get compressed again."

I think Fran would have made the corner had he not hit Norbert, but drivers really do need to learn to take care on Lap1 when a race is seldom won but often lost.

We don't want to discourage overtaking but this was a crazy move with little chance of success.

As Fran rejoins following his off, he almost collects Fabio and pulls right across the front of Al Baldwin.

This rejoin could easily have incurred further penalties, again given that the race post mentions the field getting compressed at this part of the track on lap 1.

Server replay time: 0h01m42s

This incident really begins in the confusion at Double Droite with cars jostling for position on and off the track.
Through DD Al can see Jonny on his inside and gives him room.

As the two of them exit DD and approach the kink Jonny is gaining on Al and moving alongside in a valid passing attempt.

Al seems to be unaware of him at this point and has not seen him in the mirrors since DD so he must assume that Jonny is alongside but he turns in on him.

Jonny saw the contact developing and tightened his line but Al hits him and ends up cartwheeling down the track in tuck position with a double twist.

Server replay time: 0h02m25s

BadBlood and Hendy contest T1 and approach it side by side.

Paul is expecting Hendy to concede the corner which he does not and Paul suffers a warp contact as he takes too tight a line.

Only Paul is affected.

Warp Incident.

Server replay time: 0h02m28s

DU Fossa is hit by a recovering JonnyO who is out of control as his car moves back on to the track.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h03m19s

Hendy Nichols is chasing JonnyO and as they brake for Virage du Parc, Hendy is normally later on the brakes than Jonny which catches him out.
Hendy tries to avoid the inevitable by turning inside Jonny who takes the racing line before being taken out by Hendy.

Server replay time: 0h03m32s

Economia is last in a train of battling cars approaching the final corner and takes a tighter line to the right of the usual racing line.

Billy is on the normal line and closes on him under braking, veering to to the right before making light contact.

Both cars go off left onto the grass.

  • Billy Nobrakespenalty — Simple Rear End Shunt — 1 place lost

Server replay time: 0h11m40s

Fabio and Jason head towards a shared fate at Double Droite side by side with Fabio on the outside.

Neither driver blinks as their feet hover over the brake pedal.

Unfortunately Jason should have pressed his a little earlier as what should have been a tighter inside line turns into a slide outwards towards Fabio and the two make contact.

Server replay time: 0h11m46s

Fran chases Axel towards Double Droite and is much harder and later on the brakes than Axel and he closes up quickly under braking.

Axel goes to cover the inside line as he senses a move coming but that is the line that Fran has picked and the two collide.

There are a few coincidences that contribute to this incident and all have to be considered.
(1) A few seconds earlier Fabio is off the circuit and the yellow flags are waving.
(2) Axel sees the yellow and moves to the inside while slowing more than usual to give Fabio room.
(3) Fran only sees the yellow flags at the last minute, if at all, and does not expect Axel to move over under braking.
(4) Fran is committed to the inside line and stays on the brakes to try and avoid Axel.

At first this appears to be a block by Axel who sees a passing attempt coming but I have to give both drivers the benefit of the doubt, Axel for slowing under yellows and Fran for not being able to clearly see the yellows.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h25m42s

Al Baldwin spins at Double Droite and attempts to spin around before continuing.

Unfortunately his spin puts him facing the racing line and he drives onto the racing line as he sets off again.

Unfortunately Bill chose this precise moment to arrive on the scene and has to take avoiding action to miss Al.

As Al sat facing the wrong way he could neither see nor hear Billy approaching, but to spin in such a way was a risk and he could have simply driven toward the outside of the corner and continued while avoiding the racing line.

Server replay time: 0h27m43s

Fabio and Blito collide at DD for a second time, this time on the exit.
Fabio has passed Blito on the entry and Blito responds at the exit by trying to retake the position but strays too far towards Fabio who suffers a warp contact and spins.

Blito sees he is straying over and tries to correct to the right but leaves it too late.

Blito could have avoided this incident by keeping to his own side of the track but the only contact was a warp contact otherwise the two would have been able to continue.

Where are you Jason, naughty boy?!?

Why did you take me out of track 4 times in three races at Albi?!?
OK, second place was the best result I could get but, maybe, I would have been closer to Karlis...

Second time I sent you spinning i laughed my tits off!!!  You came up the inside with such speed I thought you would never make it all the way round DD so I pointed my nose for the inside and gave it some gas... made it through as well but could see you spinning in my mirrors.. I never felt a bump so I assumed you had over cooked it like I was expecting you too!

Well, I dont make it easy for you guys to pass!! BUT, when the move is irresistable I leave the room... The clashes with Fabio were sadly avoidable (I must get a marker pen and put L and R on my phones again)....

i cant see my Albi replay, i have only some 6-7 cars in it.... why?

GRATZ PODUIM!
qual:
first of all i turned off my skype before race clap
great Quali..push 4th Pole in row just in last lap, wow!!!
race:
while i couldnt find in web good Albi setup for honda, and those two sets what i get from helpfull UKGPL memmbers (Evilclive and Fullmetalgasket) wasnt for me (im not so fast jet) i decided to build my own set.... so i think it was quite good, slow but stable.
exciting batle with Cookie till lap 3, when he did mistake.
after was great racing, long time Blito was 2sec behind me, then droped to 10sec...17sec...22sec...and was out (pity for him)
i didnt push cos felt that slower consistant laps work bether than hotlaping with wall in T1... so congratz Cookie for excelent FL1-15.6!!!!
race was interesting cos is realy nice to overtake cars when them must let you buy Cheesy i love it.
thanks to Johny.O who was lapped down but push me from behind otherwise i would went 2-3 sec slower.
so afterall well deserved my second Burnout on league races Smiley
good race without any serrious errors except one "shortcut" in T4... to avoiding loose of control, cos its a place where with left wheels on grass you spin - and it is dangerous for other drivers Smiley   )

EDIT:
wow i went from -30p to -3p in champ standings!!!

Gratz Karliss you deserved that victory  thumbup1

wow i went from -30p to -3p in champ standings!!!

Hehe but I am still there   eek

My Race

Karliss just snapped away pole in last second, but I had the "more grip" side of the track at start.
So I went to the first corner in the lead, following 3 hot laps with Karliss on my back. But in last hairpin I did  my first mistake and spun.
Had to let pass 4 drivers and came back behind Fran, We had a nice battle for 2 laps as his Ferrari is faster on straights. I could manage to come out faster of DD and was on the left beside him down the backstraight. His effort to fight back on the outside in the fast lefthander ended in grass for him, being toooo fast.
My pace was good and so I could come really close to Fabio and Jason in the next laps.
But then I did my second spin and had Fran again on my back.
My mistake was I did not shift on the long esses to straight in 4th early, as normal, so the entry speed was not optimal.
Fran in my tow down the straight in faster Fez.
When seeing a yellow flag before Double Droit I lifted and braked maybe a little early.
Fran braked, blocked his rear wheels but bumped me full in rear.
S+r followed by a looong s+g.
Some laps later my engine blew, luckily on SF straight so s+r followed by a not so long s+g.
Could fight some places back and profited from Jasons bad luck.

Jason did a phantastic job! With a little practice and a little luck....  Roll Eyes

CU at Monza...

Thanks Axel - your advice was good Smiley
I sorted the BRM's vague front handling by stiffening the front wheel rate and front roll bar.. My banzai qual lap was done with only fumes in the petrol tank and holding the revs to the redline which gave me an extra 5mph down the long straight! The only problem with doing that is I set a much faster time than I could manage in the race - the BRM overheats if you keep passing 11000rpm and it will blow if you aint carefull...

It was going well until lap 8 lying 6th I think when the engine blew Sad. Guess I must have got carried away as Molteni was behind & gaining although I didn't feel I was overdoing it at the time. Shift R after turn 1 but this engine lasted the whole of the way until the back straight. 2 engines in less than 1 lap. The 2nd I suppose from revving too hard from cold. So 2 s&g's left me 17th. I only remember passing Bad Blood who was driving the first straight on the grass at the time & chasing new driver Nicholls for ages before a small off ended that ambition. Somehow I finished 12th!.
My old problem but its the first this season when I thought I'd got rid of it.
Well done the podium & commiserations to those who had screen freeze.
