Hey Thanks Goldtop Smiley. Sorry couldn't make this race as I was too burned out(literally sunburned to a crisp) from yesterdays July 4th celebration. Fireworks are legal in my city and my goodness this year it was like Baghdad Shocked.. The weird thing is I have new next door neighbors that are from Iraq. One wonders what they must think of us Americans for blowing up things just for fun when they had to live with the real deal for us screwing up there country Undecided. Either way they are great neighbors especially compared to my old ones which were speed dealing Nazi's. No Joke.. Had to put up with that garbage for a year..
Anyways, Thank you to Goldtop and Hal for putting this great series together Cool It's been a lot of fun getting back into cars that are challenging but extremely rewarding when you get them sorted out. Look forward to the next round Grin Cheers

A real challenge last night as I knew Son would be quick in the Minardi from seeing his times in practice sessions on another server earlier in the week. Furthermore I know the Minardi sips fuel and can run lighter fuel loads so suspected he'd go with full length fuel which would save a heap of time in the pits.

I tried to set the Benetton for a fuel offset strategy, but the handling was severly affected and it was clear my times and consistency were going to be off. So I went for a simple one stop with half fuel and tyre change (hards) which would allow me to be quicker first stint.

Qualied 2nd but managed to slip by down Hangar after Son was slow coming out of Chapel on the 3rd or 4th lap. From then I concentrated on building a gap and was 15 secs ahead when Son pitted on lap 32 a couple of laps before me. I made a great stop for a change, but when I emerged from the pits all that pumping gas had put me 19 secs behind :'( I gave it all I had to try to keep some pressure on right to the end, but couldn't make the time up.

It felt disappointing to finish 2nd as I'd driven flat out and hardly put a wheel wrong all race, all the more reason to give huge congratulations to Son on a brilliant drive in a slower car  Cool A solid performance too by Jamera and well done for making the pody.

Sorry to hear about the woes of some of the other drivers and a shame a few of the regulars were unable to make it.

We're straight into Season 2 next week, which will have a few tweaks to the format and hopefully provide us all with some more thrilling racing. Details to be announced soon....

Well I have to say that I didn't have much fun again last night, quit early out of frustration.

During the race I found I could close up on Jamera fairly easy because I was so much quicker in the corners, but getting past him was ni-on impossible because of the speed of the Ferrari down the straights resulting in me having to drive above the handling limits of the Minardi in the corners to try and overtake, which made the car unstable and inevitably then spitting me on the grass Sad.

Getting into a driving rhythm is key for me, especially in the lower horse-power cars where every tenth of a second is critical, and in this current race series format I've struggled immensely.

I'm going to give the first two races of the new series a go and hope that I can have more fun racing with people in the same machinery, otherwise I'll have to concede that this mod is not for me, shame because I do like the high speeds and sounds of the engines Cool :'(

I'm glad to read these words, makes me think that TV brainwashing doesn't work for every person, and someone still preferes to think with his mind and not with the black box Smiley

You REALLY had me under pressure, to the point where the Ferrari was pretty much losing all mechanical grip through the corners trying to stay ahead of you.

Don't give up on this mod, it is for me one of, if not the best best mod I've tried  Grin

Quite enjoyed the event. WAs doing ok after stops, My "teammate" Jamera was 2 laps behind due to his multistops
then I lost concentration twice driving round on my own, 1st time took off the front wing, went to pits and replaced it
then threw it at a fence and took off a front wheel, and for I think the 3rd event I had a red cross against the wheel
and they refused to replace the suspension bits in the pits so quit.

I think people have been overdoing it on the self handicapping deal.
I expect to be passed by drivers like Lazlow and Manteos if they are in slightly slower machinery
I am in awe of how some manage to pedal cars I am 4 secs slower in round faster
than I can go in a relatively quick car like the Ferrari.
If faster drivers are getting frustrated because superhuman efforts are not being rewarded
then They should be in a faster car. IMHO.
I am happy for the series organiser to select cars for people based on this series performance
and/or percieved and expected pace.

For Season 2 I won't be selecting cars for drivers based on this past series. I'll be using data from the first 2 spec races of next season to rank drivers and give them a choice of cars according that rank.

Faster drivers will have a chance to make a good headstart in the championship in these spec races. I believe the ballast system, which will start to take effect from round 4 will mix things up considerably and make it extremely difficult for any driver to dominate the championship.

My hope is that we'll see even closer racing and different faces on the podium each round. See here for details....
