Moderator's Report

A clean lap one excepting one report (below). All drivers who took a reset subsequently took and stop and go.

Server replay time: 0h01m39s

After a solo spin Geoff rejoins safely and closes on Hannah. Geoff looks for a passing opportunity and a question is raised as regards blocking. There is no collision. The nearest rule that fits is this;
"Marginal Blocking/Weaving: Caution
The blocking driver changed his line ONCE in RESPONSE to the following car's movement but well BEFORE the following car was committed to his line. No contact is made."

However, whilst it does look like Hannah moves across early for the corner, it cannot be said to be a blocking attempt. It is not clear any movement was in response to the car behind and, being lap one, Hannah's line cannot be taken as unusual.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h01m58s

Just after the line so NOT lap one.
On the straight Mike T is attempting a pass on the left and has over 100% overlap but has NOT cleared Billy. He then moves slightly right, presumably to line up for the upcoming corner, and hits the side of Billy. He could not see Billy in his mirrors and therefore must assume he had not cleared him.
The rules have this;
"Blatant Side by Side contact: Penalty 2 Places
On a straight, the overtaking car moves out to overtake but cuts back in too early. The victim made no mistakes and was driving their normal line at normal speed. The shunter made no allowance for the victim whatsoever and was in full control when the incident took place. There was no loss of control. Penalty for overtaking driver."

However, in mitigation, Billy should know Mike is on the left but still uses up a large chunk of the track ie he could have gone slightly more right to allow more clearance. That said Billy stayed in his position and had every right to be there.
Under the circumstances the penalty will be reduced by one place.

Server replay time: 0h08m42s

Geoff is closing on Hannah to overtake and there is a rear end collision.
The question of blocking is raised but Hannah does not appear to take a different line to nomal so the onus was on Geoff to make a clean pass. It makes no difference as to whether your intention to pass is clear to the driver in front; when racing the lead driver has every right to maintain their defensive line provided they do not block or weave.
The rules have this;
"Blatant Rear End Shunt: Penalty 2 Places
The victim made no mistakes and was driving their normal line at normal speed. The shunter made no allowance for the victim whatsoever. The shunter was in full control."

Server replay time: 0h09m20s

Ross rejoins the track and collides with Hannah.
From Hannah's perspective Ross was off the track, he slowed slightly and then Ross just drove into his side with no opportunity for Hannah to avoid the collision. From the other perspective Ross did initially wait but appears to have bogged down in the grass whilst doing a rejoin. He probably could not hear Hannah approaching due to his revving to get out but a glance to the right would have shown the approaching car.
The rules have this;
"Blatant Bad Rejoin: Penalty 2 Places
The rejoining driver was NOT in full control but nevertheless attempted to drive straight back onto the racing line without any consideration for other drivers and contact was made."

However allowance needs to be made for the fact Ross did, initially, try to ensure it was safe to rejoin. When he found himself struggling he should then have done another check but that is easier said then done in the heat of the moment.
Under the circumstances I am going to reduce the penalty to a warning.

At the halfway mark Fulvio leads the Works, but only just, and the Championship is still wide open. In Privateers Ronnie has a gap but it is not insurmountable.

The Works will run on PRO Damage and Privateers will run on Intermediate Damage with the allowance of ONE shift-R reset. No Shift-Rs are allowed in practice unless authorized by the moderator. A Shift-R (fault or not) MUST be followed by a Stop & Go. A Shift-R for tyres/fuel is not allowed. Any driver taking more then ONE Shift-R OR failing to take a Stop & Go will be disqualified from the race result.

Qualifying time = 35 minutes. Don't start until 30 mins left on clock to allow everyone to join.
Race length = 50 minutes (laps 53)
Password: see above

Driver lists can be found on the Works or Privateers championship standings pages.
The track can be downloaded from : link is currently down but Mike has kindly made it available here - http://www.jamesonline.net/ukgpl/%23Circuits/
Add-on’s available at : n/a

Please be in IGOR UKGPL chatroom by 8:50 pm UK Time

Reserve drivers should not join the server(s) until there are only 30 minutes of qualifying left. Please restrict chat to pit messages. Moderating will be by reported incidents only, however the moderators reserve the right to review any incident with a particular emphasis on lap one. The aim is to review the race the following weekend so incident reports should be submitted within five days of the race (ie the following Friday). We're hopeful most incidents can be resolved amicably and recommend a days deep breath with a replay review before posting. A sorry in the forum won't be taken as an automatic admission of guilt by the moderators. There will be FULL moderation of lap one regardless of whether you submit an incident report.

With the token system chassis strategy will be a factor. A driver must have sufficient tokens for the chassis he drives in the race.  Any driver who does not have sufficient tokens will be disqualified from the result and his tokens will be set to zero.

Chassis costs;
Lotus 20 / Eagle 17 / Ferrari 15 / Brabham 10 / Cooper 5 / Honda 3 / BRM 0

To see your current tokens hover your mouse over your total points on the Works or Privateers championship standings pages. Ten tokens will be added when you cross the start line.

There are two 67 Championships, namely Works and Privateers. The driver split will be;

Lakeside Park, formerly known as Lakeside International Raceway is a motor racing circuit located at Pine Rivers 18.6 miles north of Brisbane and lies adjacent to Lake Kurwongbah. The circuit was the venue for a wide range of racing series including the Australian Grand Prix on two occasions, playing host to such names as Jim Clark, Jackie Stewart, Jack Brabham, Graham Hill and Chris Amon.
Although national championship racing was still being held at the circuit in July 2001 declining revenues, mounting debts, court proceedings, an increasingly hostile local council and competition for events with the nearby Queensland Raceway led to the circuits closure that same year, although the circuit re-opened during 2008 strictly as a local racing venue.

Have we ever run a circuit with a shorter lap?

I'm slow and I'm in the 56s at times.

I wonder how many laps I will lose by.............

My prediction: Anyone who can run consistently in the 56's and stay on track for this Privateers race is a definite podium finish if not winner, notwithstanding interference from any backmarkers having to pass backmarkers in a respectful and fair manner.

In recent races the willingness of backmarkers to move out of the way has been rather poor, so this will be a good opportunity for the backmarkers to show they now know how it's done. However, I don't think the problem will be as big for the works division as we're very close performance wise this season and the driving in this division has been exceptionally fair to date Smiley (knock on wood).

Um...not bad track, but i seriously have trouble destinguishing what is grass and what is asphalt...almost like driving blindfolded...

Guess il handle it somehow, managed to get 0.57, but i highly doubth il survive 50 laps here. Maybe il get cooper this time.

Yup, really don't like this track at all. The grass cannot be touched for even a millisecond, so I fear concentrating for 53 laps is going to be a massive challenge.

I've been playing around with different cars and setups, and I just can't find anything that flows...or even allows me to drive quick enough to make me think I am racing, rather than just avoiding the edges.

Can anyone please share the philosophy of what kind of setup is appropriate for this track?

Cheers

Arf,
A very challenging track because the the corners come in such quick succession.
Chances are I'm going to to be on the grass quite a bit here. More by accident than design - I did find a set up adjustment that helped. I think I started with a Watkins Glen set up & shorted 4th & 5th gears. The trick was to increase the front wheel Rebounds by a click each click. It seems to work for the Brabham on this track. Might not be any good for other drivers or other cars of course.

Yup, got my best time with a Brabham so far, so funny you find the same - I've used the Cooper exclusively so far this season, but may well have to take the Brabby for this one.

I'll have a look at modifying the Glen setup. Cheers Billy

Staying on track is hard enough but staying on track with other cars circulating is murder and I'm struggling to see where it is possible to pass without the other driver playing ball. We need a practice server before tonight I think.

Actually its a marvelious track when you get to know it... extremely fun. I still think it wouldn't do harm to have just a little bit darker grass, but oh well...

And seriously, you have to try the default setup. It seems it has been developed for the track especially, and feels great, just spot-on. Easely managed to do 10 laps in row in 57-58 range, which is pretty good for me. Seems il drive eagle, amazing how solid that car is on twisty tracks... cooper and ferrari aint bad either.
