Moderator's Report

No reported incidents for this race, although the replay shows a few contacts and spins. So I am presuming that drivers considered them to be Racing Incidents.
Just one naughty boy!! Axel performs a Shift/R after his 2F decides that it has suffered enough knocks, but does not wait 10 secs in the pits and only performs a Stop n Go.
Therefore Axel will be DQ'd from the results.

I was happy doing my laps and getting out of the way of faster cars, when Hristo came up to lap me. He caught me at the last corner, but at this point was still quite a few cars lengths behind. I was planning on taking the corner and coming off throttle on the start/finish straight. I made a small mistake under braking (I was watching my mirrors) and ran wide, and Hristo went for the gap, and I turned in. We collided and I lost a wheel. Sorry about that Hristo, looking at my reply there was a huge space for you.

Not a problem, Al, I was not really affected much, the car just lost some momentum, but didn't seem to get damaged. As you said, you went wide and with Porsche's superior cornering speed I was instantly going down the inside, something which I guess you did not expect, but that's how different Porsche is compared to the other cars. You weren't the first who seem to have been surprised by the cornering (and braking) speed difference yesterday, but I guess it's difficult to recognize when you're up against a Porsche and with the mod still being relatively new - to judge the gap properly.

I'll post a proper report later on, though my race was rather lonely once Sam dropped back. I should check the replay though, as there was a very quick backmarker near the end who unlapped himself and disappeared into the distance.  Shocked Wonder who it was and where he has been until those final couple of laps, lol.

First of all, grats to Juha for keeping the pressure on all the way through the race and being there to take the win when I made a mistake. Maybe a lesson there for everyone ...."the race isn't over until you see the flag". Roll Eyes

Because I had the 2F for this race I knew that I ought to be somewhere near the front of the grid! With that much power on a circuit like this I felt that I had to make it count. My problem was that Juha had similar ideas!!! He quickly set a stunning low 1:47 lap which was about 1 sec faster than I had managed in private practice on race fuel.

I squeezed a lap out on race fuel that moved me up to 2nd spot, but I got the feeling that with that much fuel on board I was never going to match Juha's time. Pole position would give a clear track and that has to be an advantage through some of the sweeping corners around Zeltweg. So I dumped a load of fuel and left enough for about 7 laps and went out to try and beat Juha's time. Slowly I chipped away and got closer and closer. Then with one banzai lap I got pole by 0.01 secs!! Well, I was sure that Juha was just going to take that pole back again, but he didn't  Grin
So the rolling grid set off and I knew that Juha was going to be all over me like a rash for this race because our times were so close. Plus Hristo and Sam were only fractionally slower!!

As I suspected I had Juha all over my tail pies for the early laps. He was definitely faster through T1 but I had the edge through a couple of other turns and so the gap opened and closed with each lap. We were running in the 1:48's from the start and it looked like being a very close race.
Hristo dropped back in his Porsche unable to live with the straight line speed of our 2 Chapps and I concentrated on keeping my lines as clean as possible and remembering to brake early enough to get turned in to the corners.

Then Juha ran wide at T2 and I had a small gap, but big enough to deny Juha any slipstream, so I tried to push as hard as I could for a few laps and build a cushion.
For the next 20 laps I maintained the gap back to Juha, but I was driving just about on the limit to match his pace. Each time I passed a backmarker I lost a little of that gap, but then I could tell when Juha passed the same guy, because the gap was restored again.

The gap was not big enough to allow any mistakes and Juha was relentless. As the fuel load came down towards the end of the race we were both putting in 1:47 laps and matching each others pace with about 500 metres between us.
Then I blew it!!
I caught and passed Al as we approached T1 and because I did not want to risk any contact I stayed to the right until I could see him in my ( virtual) mirror before moving back on to the racing line. Al did nothing wrong and held his line as I passed. But I was so concentrated on my mirror and avoiding Al, that I ran too far and too fast into T1  and was out on that slippery green stuff before I could scrub off the excess speed. The spin was rather prolonged and to make matters worse I ended up nose first into the fencing on the outside of the track needing to reverse on to the racing line to recover!!
Of course, I had to let Juha through before I could recover and when I did, it soon became apparent that bouncing along the fence had not done the suspension/steering any great favours!! Undecided

There was no chance of catching Juha with 5 laps to go, especially with a car that had become very unstable under braking, so I had to settle for a cruise into 2nd spot.
Hristo did a great job in getting the Porker home in 3rd place and Paul soldiered on to get some points the Mirage. Not a bad day for the Red Team, but it should have been better.

Nice to get some kind words but feeling pretty undeserving. I wasn't feeling very well last night and I kept losing concentration and the frequent trips to the armco made me even slower than normal. Clive had set me a taget of 1:55 as a lap and when I started the race I put in a nice 1:57 early doors and I thought it was going to be fun but then I span on the outside of the long first curve taking too wide a circle. That knackered the car a bit and then when I pushed to catch Sky I span three times in a row over the crest leading to the last turn Sad After the reset the car was horrible for some reason and I struggled to do 2:00.

So as it happens, I could have retired at the end of the rolling lap because although Sky retired earlier I was too far back to take advantage.

Good race that. True to form, I was about a second or so behind the leading pace of Clive and Juha which was good enough for 3rd on the grid, just ahead of H in his gutless Porsche. From lap 1 onwards, it was clear I didn't have to pace to battle with Clive and Juha up front, but had a cracking battle with H for the first third of the race. H was simply awesome on the brakes and through the corners in his nimble Porsche in comparison to my heavy Chap 2F. But the grunt from the V8 more often than not placed me ahead on the straights. I also found out the hard way just how useless the mirrors are. But it's my choice to race reasonably authentically so I've no qualms about it. As long as I don't hit anyone anyway  Grin.

Just before the half way point, I had a lazy spin on the approach to the Bosch-Kurve. That allowed Tim past me and I spent the rest of the race trying to catch him. I eventually managed to catch him, and pass him into the Hella-Licht. Tim didn't make it easy for me though, and pressed me hard up until the flag. I managed to finish less than a second ahead and hold onto 4th place. Reasonably happy with my result though I have no clue where to find another second consistently around here  Undecided. Congrats to the podium!

I knew this was going to be a tough race in the Porsche, but I thought it was possible to keep up with the front runners as long as they provided me with slipstream. Qualifying went better than expected, with a new PB in place putting me on the 2nd row of the grid. Juha again ignored the remark from previous races and was doing some crazy zig-zagging during the warm up lap, which was a bit worrying, but all went well fortunately.

As soon as we started it became apparent I had to overtake Sam if I was to not lose Evil and Juha, but that was easier said than done. Regardless of how quicker the Porsche was under braking and through corners, the straights were simply too long for that advantage to prevail over engine power, so I was stuck behind Sam and by the time we exchanged a couple of overtakes, Juha and Evil were now out of reach.

Once Sam dropped back, it was a lonely drive to the flag, passing a backmarker now and then. As mentioned by Jason himself, we had a moment in the last turn when he went wide on the entry to the corner and then turned back to the line while I was already there, but that is the grip difference of the Porsche and the other cars. I'm not also sure who it was, but there was one backmarker near the end who seemed to have the pace to even fight for victory, as he passed me with ease and instantly pulled away, so I'm puzzled how he was lapped in the first place!

Grats to Juha for the win and Evil to 2nd, although he most certainly deserve to win it after leading for the majority of the race.

This was Jens Kraft in a Lola...

Not registered that I can see but why is he not showing in the results as a guest driver? Very odd.
There is the option to eject a driver from the server if they are not registered.

Maybe it wasn't him? He was on the server during Qualifying for sure, but I'm not sure he actually started the race. Got to look at the replay, maybe the server dropped him if he started late, from the pitlane?

He started from the pitlane!
In my replay he is there. In the race history graph vou can see: his speed is matching Clives...

But where is the server replay?

Jens started the race as a guest for the Pink team as a very late entrant but too late to register. Neither I nor Clive can actually register people even if they vote. The other driver did not take part. I wasn't aware of any bad driving but if you would like to let me know by PM I'll look. In the end he was disqualified because he took a Lola by mistake. It was easier to delete him from the results than to include him and have to set up a new profile etc etc.

As for the replay apologies, I forgot to upload it. Mea culpa. Should be there now.

I know what you are thinking - "lazy mods sheesh..."  Wink

My race report

I had the Mirage again on this familiar track.
The Quali wasn't my optimum, but for a long race I had to set up a reliant car.
In the race I kept my position, maybe I should have let Phil pass me earlier as he became faster...
Last turn lap 11 I couldn't avoid an collision with Phil who had spun and my engine got sour.
Should have done an immediate shift+r but did another slow lap before I finaly did.
Rest of the race I had some fight with an unconsistent driving Dave til the last lap.
Was confused about the flagmen waving all colors and did not know if it was allready over.
So Dave got the chance and took my place...
