Moderator's Report

East London is considered by some to be Kyalami's little brother but it is popular among the Novices and makes a welcome return where we had some good and close racing, some of it on the tarmac.

Server replay time: 0h00m58s

Fabio is battling with Fran and Economia on the run to T1.
Fabio wins this battle but goes too hot into T1 and rear ends Norbert, putting him into a spin before finally collecting him as he gets sideways.

Fabio should have avoided this collision but as he was in a 3 way battle with a car either side of him he may have lost sight of his braking point so I will mitigate 1 penalty place for the shunt but I will still apply the Lap 1 incident penalty place as all drivers need to take extra care into T1.

RogUK has to reset after getting caught up in the carnage but fails to take a Stop n Go

Server replay time: 0h01m20s

Karliss sits and waits patiently before rejoining.
He could have used all of the room off the track to his right to turn around and then drive alongside the track and rejoin more quickly.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h03m20s

Fran is following Paul towards the Esses but misjudges Paul's braking and rear ends him, knocking RogUK off in the process.

Paul seemed to brake a little earlier than usual and is slightly out of shape but it is still Fran's responsibility to avoid him.

Server replay time: 0h04m35s

Dave follows Du Fossa into the Esses when Du Fossa loses it, spins and blocks the track giving Dave nowhere to go.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h06m35s

Fran overtakes Billy under braking for the Esses but Billy doesn't realise he is there and turns in on him.

Only Billy is affected.

  • Racing incident

Server replay time: 0h10m08s

Fabio rear ends Pete Maestro into Beacon Bend.
Fabio entered at his normal speed but on the previous lap Pete had overshot a little and this lap was much slower in despite braking at the same place, he stayed on the brakes longer which caught out Fabio who had not seen Pete's problems on the previous lap as Fran had been in between them.

Server replay time: 0h25m20s

Hendy is chasing Norm along the straight and using his tow, but he misjudges his braking for T1 and read ends Norm.

My absence from the track, when it matters, is a matter of my weak Internet connection ATM.  I've been relinquishing my '65 seat to a reserve driver, who's more likely to both compete, and complete.  I'll give it another go though. Undecided

Glad to see we are continuing to attract more drivers in the Novices but seemed to have lost a couple of the older campaigners - what happened to Maddog & Nigel Smith?
      On the subject of the missing me;
] I have been back and forth to St Petersburg to see my Sis in hospital- she is well now thank goodness, but it has been very wearying for the whole family.
The PC is now up and running [a fried HDD was the problem- all that lovely data lost, must back-up more often] and most everything GPL has been re-installed, just need a few more tracks. But I will sit out the rest of S21 and get some much needed practice. Hope Tim and Dave are managing ok in the GT's and good luck to everyone. Nice to see some new names, but it will just make it harder for us tortoises, heh Paul Grin.

LOL - Nice to know you are both still around. Hope your sister is fine, Nigel. Look forward to seeing you soon. TBH The sooner S21 is over the better for me. I'm knackered...

I would opt for the BT11 Paul.
IMHO by far the most stable and predictable car in the 65's
I may give it a go but for developing a sense of how the cars drive maybe the Novices should adopt the Historics model where some are limited to chassis groups but you have free choice within those groups.

You should post in the mid-season review thread and suggest that. I'm disappointed how few of us have posted their opinions and desires in there...

It is the nature of any club really that only a very few get active outside the core activity (online racing here) but it doesn't stop it being disappointing. I will post that though. Good point.

Some time ago you mentioned that you should cut down on division participation, yet you still enter most of them.  Roll Eyes

Huge thanks to Paul for stepping up and sorting out this race as I was on holiday in Rhodes at the time.

It seems UKGPL3 performed much better than UKGPL5 has of late so it seems my worsening Internet connection could mean we switch to 3 at some point.

Also, thank you for your patience as the mod for the Monza race is not yet published, again due to my holiday. I will look to do that before the the weekend but I also need to look at the Porsche one from last time as well.

I'm like the boy in the sweetie shop - I know I shouldn't but I just can't resist one more choccy...

The modding takes up probably 70% of my GPL related time with 5% on postings and 15% on practicing and racing. Balance is a bit out of kilter there. Problem is I REALLY enjoy the Specs and Historics and I can't let the team down in the GTs and Porsches and Novices is the only championship I really qualify for on merit  Grin

I think over the summer I will scale back to just the GTs (both flavours) and the novices. Oh go on then - one more Specs....  Undecided

As for running the races on UKGPL3 - should be OK but I would want some more tests.

As for actually starting the race - you are welcome. Bit nervous we might get 20 drivers and I would miss it but it was fine in the end.
