Wondered what happened to you RP. I was worried about blowing an engine as well. So I kept fifth gear in the bag...

Three wheels Fulvio - you looked pretty quick to me... but I am still counting that as a racing pass Wink

Not forgetting Hristo for yet another tiresome drive cough! erm! great win  Grin

Thanks, Bernie, but despite what looked like an easy victory, I kept pushing all the way, as a challenge to myself. I think it's something of a record, but each next lap was the fastest, all the way from lap 1 to and including the penultimate lap! The final lap was set to be even faster but then the engine lost power and started smoking, so a shame about that one. It also robbed me from any chance to lap Fulvio.  Grin

I last raced at Schotten in 2005 or something, in 67s, and it's brutal and scary in those. I think the lap times at the front were 5:06-07 or something. I needed a couple of laps to remember the track and to figure out how to lap it in the Lotus 66 Climax, plus the gearing was tricky to set with such a narrow torque range, but it all worked quite well in the end. Oh and I did know about the invisible trees that take no prisoners, so I guess that was another advantage on my side.  Grin

It was disappointing to see so many retirements though, I still don't believe some of you entered this race without any or with just little practice. The track is just so demanding...

Grats to Paul for 4th!

lol Phil !!  Yes you did scare the living daylights out of me when you braked!!
and Yes I do normally take that bend absolutely flat, but that is difficult with a Fezza obscuring the horizon..lol

I think I have only raced this track once before and although I had a fair idea of what comes next it took me all of qualli to hook up a half tidy lap. Multiple trips into fences hedges and ravines prompted several changes to the setup which gradually improved the cars predictability and I was relatively confident of a good race.

My big mistake became apparent just after the start, I had not loaded the modified setup for the race and still had an almost default setup on the car. It became very obvious that this race was not going to be fun when the car refused to brake and turn at the bottom of the hill!! Shocked and I took the chicken route behind the wall and mixed with a few locals to discuss the finer points of pils lager.

By the time I had performd a 3 point turn and climbed the grass bank I was in time to see Paul and co in their Ferraris coming down the hill. I set off after the field and was amazed at how fast I was catching cars despite discovering that 6th gear was about 3 revs different to 5th and I was having to back off on the straights to protect the engine.
I had a couple of minor offs and excursions and one detour around the bridge through the cobbled sections where i was surprised to see someone else follow me??!! Maybe they thought it was a shortcut??? Roll Eyes
To be quite honest the setup was terrible and I was overdriving even that, plus my mind was not fully focused on driving and the inevitable happend and I watched a wheel or two complete more of the race on their own than they ever would have attached to the car I was driving!!

Grats to all the finishers and a especially for Paul who drove within himself and got a deserved 4th place.....a podium beckons  Grin

             HELP
Tried to launch GPL last night, but it sticks at the track green button or crashes and displays an error message. Wont launch gpl.exe or any of the mods from GEM+.
        PANIC PANIC Shocked
Can't find any specific relevance on the FAQ's, have tried restart and GEM rebuild to no effect, and all the different rasterizer settings.

Have you added any car graphics? Or sounds maybe?

Have yo utried Bob Simpsons FAQ ? Seem to remember there being something about not having all the car sounds in the car sound folder that caused that sort of thing  Undecided

http://srmz.net/index.php?showtopic=3714

Quote
From Bob's FAQ

Can’t get past the first screen in GPL.
1- Usually you’ve applied the carsound patch but don’t have 7 different car sounds in the sounds folder, in addition to the sound.dat file.
2- Find links to add-on GPL sounds for all car mods at http://www.gpllinks.org/ > GPL sounds

Never had the specific problem you have so not sure what to suggest, but if you need to reinstall and/or start deleting files, MAKE SURE YOU BACKUP YOUR PLAYER SETUP FILES first, you don't want to lose them.

in Gem pick your 66player and change state of the carsounds tickbox , so if it's ticked untick it or visa versa .

if that fails to work go to your 67 player and change the state of the carsounds tickbox and then change the 66 mod settings (try both) , one should work ...

after that try running gpl67 and check that still works ok , if it does not alter it back to it's original state .

if none of the above works then delete/move the gplc66.exe and let gem rebuild it (this happens when you exit gem) .

I had an issue once where GPL67.exe would not launch from GEM it would CTD but it WOULD run if I used the gpl67.exe directly. It was some Windows patch crap that had caused the problem. In the end I rebuilt from scratch - it was easier in the long run. As soon as I had a working setup - I copied the lot to a backup folder and whenever I get a problem (which usually coincides with some Windows 7 nefariousness) I restire for that folder. Had no problem since.

If you do decide to rebuild, remember to take a copy of your players folder to save those precious setups...
