This is the last race in the series and the last I'll be organising. Still haven't heard for sure if anyone is taking this on for next season yet. If no-one steps up, I have an idea for continuing Tuesday nights with another mod which won't take up so much admin time for me. Let's see what happens.
still interested in helping with the admin next season... another mod or not... but if we go for another mod it has to be F1 right?
The usual admin of setting the server and posting results etc is no problem. The problem with the F188 mod is that it needs a lot of other admin to set up and run such as assessing driver ability and car strengths and implementing the ballast system. TBH even after all this, I don't think this series was that successful. It hasn't really produced the close racing that I imagined or a close fought championship. I believe We have lost a lot of the initial interest because of this. Therefore all that extra time/effort starts to look a bit pointless.
Another option would be free choice or spec races, but do we really want to see a grid full of McLarens? I think that just destroys the essence of this mod.
My proposal is for a spec open wheel series using this mod...
http://www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=11866The good points compared to F188...
the cars are all the same but with plenty of skins
the cars drive easily and feel very nice straight out of the box so are very accessible to all
they have better physics and ffb imo
they are harder to crash in that they have very good traction out of slow corners avoiding silly spins
they are better under braking and have rear brake lights to help avoid shunts
they give that bit of a warning before they let go
the offs don't tend to be as race ending and the cars seem to stop better in gravel
they run well on all the tracks I've tried unlike F188 cars
the series would be very admin light....we could use many of our tried and tested existing tracks
they sound great
they are perfect for 40 minute no stop sprint races
The bad points compared to F188...
they don't have the history or charisma
the tyre model seems a bit off...softs will easily last 40 minutes
they might have too much mechanical grip for some tastes
I'm not totally convinced by the wing adjustment effect, but there again, I've run F188 with 1/1 wing on some tracks
top speed is only 160ish mph
I think this mod will deliver close and exciting racing without some of the frustrations of F188 and I'm happy to put some test races together and organise a series if these are successful.
