Final Race of Season 21 is the rescheduling of Round 2. We are at Laguna 67, a short lefthanded circuit with relatively short straights & some rather challenging turns – including the aptly named Corkscrew. The track can be downloaded here laguna

The important bit for the less observant is this is a 1965 Mod race. Your choice of chariot is the Brabham BT7 & the Honda.

I’m off to watch the Goodwood Revival this Friday so thanks to Geoff for volunteering to step in & run the server.

Thanks to the drivers who have signed up & competed in the Spec series which has now completed its 3rd year. Hopefully we all had some fun, thrills & spills along the way.

Hristo was supremely quick at Zandvoort & now tops the championship table. Unless he doesn’t show up then the title should be his. Natan & Evil have been there or thereabouts all season.

Spec Racing the format is a little different from other divisions. There will be two Intermediate Short Races, back to back on the same track. For each event there are two chassis available and you should drive both cars - anyone daft enough to use the same car will be disqualified for Race 2. Start with whichever chassis you like.

There is no handicapping all participants will run in one division.
Unlimited resets are allowed but every Shift R must be followed by a Stop & Go in the pit lane.  Failure to take a Shift R results in a Disqualification. If you Reset on the last lap a 30 second time penalty will be awarded
Incidents should be reported in the usual way.
In line with other divisions the races will be subject to full moderation on lap one.

Also please note that qualifying runs are limited to 15 minutes – the clocks starts ticking when the server goes up so doesn’t wait around.

Race List = IGOR
Server = UKGPL_T7_2
IP address = 62.149.202.168
Race date = Friday 16-09-2011
Time = 21:00 UK time (21:00 GMT)
Track = Laguna Seca
Race length = Intermediate Short
Variant = 1965
Chassis = Brabham BT7 & Honda
Damage Model = Intermediate
Qualifying time = 15 minutes

Driver lists can be found on the championship standings page

At this point, the server is refusing all my connections on RDP or TightVNC, therefore I am unable to setup the server or set it to listen for connections. Any one else able to try as most of the other mods are absent??
Geoff.

I'm presuming Fulvio is not around.

I was in London today but got back in time, just about.

The results are uploaded and the replays are in the usual place. Sorry to hear that we had a few disco's in the second race.

Congrats to the absent Hristo who pipped Evil to the title.

What happened at the start of Race 2? My sim shut down completely just as I was about to hit the green button to go to the grid?.........very odd, not happened to me like that before. What about the rest of you, a couple said they had freezes, but then I was out of there.

Race 2 was a non-event for me, and a few others.....including Clive, whom unfortunately has snatched defeat from the jaws of victory in the title race courtesy of his startline disco/freeze in race 2. Tough luck Clive, Hristo managed to hang on by the skin of his teeth.

Qually for race 1 was rubbish, unable to get within cooee of my praccy times in the BT7. But the race itself was a blast. Got away with the pack snapping at the heels of 3 Wazamobiles in front. Teamies Ross and Ray and Dave Rainier just ahead. The Hondas were proving a bit awkward to drive as I kept picking up places as they visited the scenery at various points. I briefly lost the tow of the pack as Juha recovered from a run uoof at the bottom of the hill, gave me a whack as I passed him into the Corkscrew and knocked me off the track. Caught the group at the last corner again the next lap and latched onto Juha's gearbox. But bothe Ross and Dave, who'd been managing to hold Juha up quite well both had excursions and let him free. He then proceeded to run away and hide from me, as I couldn't match his impressive times. I then had my own scenic drive at the esses....letting the trio of Dave, Ross and I think Aulden through. Chased them down as they each had further bobbles and by lap 11 or 12 found myself relatively alone in 6th place. I got my head down and matched my praccy PB a couple of times in laying down some consistent times to try to hold the following 3 at bay. The rear tyres went off badly near the end and I had no choice but to drop out of the 13 into the hi 14's to hold it together to the finish. Watching the replay, the battle over the last 2 laps between Aulden, Ross and Goran was captivating. Ross was all over Aulden like a cheap suit, with Goran close by to pick up any pieces and the pressure must have been enormous. To Auldens great credit he drove tight, mistake free laps and held off rampaging Ross to hold 7th. Sadly, Goran turned Turtle at the Corkscrew on the last lap and his race was run.. Most fun I've had in ages... Grin

Pity about Race 2.......

Oops, I totally forgot about this one.  Sad Was thinking how it would be my last UKGPL for a while, but I'm so used of running these on Sunday that it's not the first time I get confused.

Tough luck Evil, when I saw I missed the race I thought you probably snatched 1st in the standings, but apparently not.  Sad

Well, it's a shame to end the season like this, but what can one do...

Before the race offline and online my screen was freezing into a stuttering mess if I went too close to the hay wall on the final corner or even entered the pit lane??? Thus it was no suprise when I had issues on race night. But the mass disco at the start of race 2 was a complete suprise.

Well done those who raced and congrats to the podiums. Hard one to swallow Clive but congrats to Hristo who runs off with the silverware yet again!

I didn't make it for race one, and in race 2 my game froze in the menu, when I finished my practice and went in the menu. Nothing functioned, the replay screen froze, i heard only some random replay sounds of passing cars (not looping sound like in screenfreeze), and the mouse sometimes changed its cursor like doing something. Waited 2-3 minutes, figured that race had started already and rebooted the computer, couldnt get out any other way. I tought its some program kicking in from background or some other computer issue of mine, but now i see it happened to others... really wierd.

Gratulations to Hristo for his deserved Championship!
Gratulations to Clive for his deserved 2nd
thumbup2

Race1
Well with some practice I found the groove of the track.
After a good start I followed the first 3 in a save distance and kept avoiding mistakes.
When there was some trouble in front I was 2nd, but Juha gave me a great fire from behind.
Under pressure I made 2 mistakes in the Corkscrew, the one in the last lap caused some confusion, as Juha let me in front.
At the SF-line I wanted to let him pass, but he did stay behind me and slowed down, what gave Raoni the chance to pass him...

Race2
Disco, just before pushing the green button...

Grats Hristo on winning your last championship Grin  I would have felt a cheat if I had taken it simply because you did not turn up.

I think if the Bulgarian gremlins had not sabotaged the second race, I might have picked up enough points to get my sweaty hands on that trophy!!

The first race was fun. I was late joining the track as I had a telephone call just before the server was launched and I chose the Wazamobile because most drivers seemed to have opted for the BT7. Never quite hooked up anywhere near my PB in qually and even got a screen freeze that required a restart of computer. Fortunately I regained server with about 5 mins of practice left and squeezed a reasonable grid slot.

Juha took off ahead and was just easing away over the first few laps whilst I looked for a way past Goran. The Honda was faster on the straights and through some corners, but not where it was easy to make it count. Raoni recovered from his slow start and slipped past when I made a small error at T1. I easily closed the gap and sat on his tail as he looked for a way past Goran. When a few laps later I saw Raoni dive up the inside under the bridge my first thoughts were "he ain't gonna make the corner!".. and he almost did not!!. Instead he went wide onto the grass but kept his foot down which looked extremely hairy. ( Not his foot! the antics of the car!!). Goran slowed and to avoid rear ending him I took to the grass on the inside of the climb up the hill. My momentum carried me alongside Goran and I feathered the gas trying to get some traction and acceleration up the hill to take advantage. I saw a glimpse of BT7 nose to my right and then 2 cars spinning in my mirrors.
I had felt no contact but could not be sure that warp had not fired Goran off the track. The replay shows that it was  Raoni and Goran who touched  as the grass spat Raoni's car back on to the track. By the time I got to the corkscrew I was running 1st and clear. All I had to do now was mange the gap back to second and bring it home.
Raoni appeared to be closing after his recovery, but I knew that my lap times were good and that he must be pushing very hard to be gaining on me so I did not panic. Then he dropped off prib and I suddenly had a huge cushion with only a few laps to go.  Grin

The second race and the number of disco's was strange because qually seemed more stable. But as the grid was being set I was just kicked out along with several others. Frustrating but this is only a game after all  cursing

Once again, the disco's appeared to happen around 10:00p.m. UK local time. Did anyone happen to log the exact time? I can't help wondering if the T7 server is running some backup/update as a scheduled task at around that time.

Grats to Hristo again. and to all the other drivers. I always enjoy the Specs as a chance to explore the different chassis and mods. Looking forward to next season already.  Smiley

Unlucky Clive. Vos, Billy and I missed the action because we were at Goodwood. I have put some (!) photos up on the UKGPL3 server (http://ftp://ukgpl3.dyndns.org in any browser) - go to 'Clips' and there is a folder 'Goodwood photos'. Lotus 67 is NOT to be missed. Cracking day and next year we need more people to meet up.
