Is the dark area mentioned on a hill? If so, drivers might want to find out where their handbrake button is before leaving their car unattended.

Does anybody have any other suggestions? I struggled to find anywhere else suitable that wasn't on the outside of a fast corner (this area is too but at least it's next to the pit lane) and not on a hill.

I think the old pit entrance (parralel to the bus stop) might be the only other suitable place. Does the hand brake key toggle the brake? If it does I don't see any problem to have timed stop on top of the hill. TT

If it does I don't see any problem to have timed stop on top of the hill. Handbrake's not a toggle. I looked at the track near the pit entrance but couldn't find anywhere I thought was safely seperated from both the track and the pit entrance (through the red/white 'bails'). The outside of Blanchimont (and the fast left hand kink before) doesn't afford anywhere safe to rejoin. I also looked at the loop of tarmac between Les Combes and Malmedy but it's very narrow and the entry to it is extremely tight.

What about on the outside of the hairpin - before the s/f straight? TT

At the end of the long straight (name?) after Eau Rouge, there is a load of tarmac if you miss your braking, perhaps there is enough room there maybe?
I can't believe the handbrake is not a toggle! The only really flat areas I can think of are before the pits, but there's not much room there.

What happens if you were to turn the engine off with the car still in gear? Would it stop it rolling back (if in 1st-6th) or forward (if in reverse) as in real life, or doesn't that work at all/only if the clutch is manual?

End of the Kemmel Straight - I looked there but there's nowhere to rejoin which doesn't involve either reversing or driving back onto the track in a dangerous way.

Is somebody in a position to try that before I get home?

Nothing short of resting the front tyres against the left hand curb can stop the car rolling forward very slowly down the hill - turning the ignition off, putting it in reverse, using the handbrake (this made no difference at all to me - not sure if I was doing something wrong) and with or without manual clutch.

Ah well, didn't know if that would work or not. Given all these problems, would it be better/more popular to reduce the race length (but still making it longer than the "normal" edurance events) to something like 90 mins (or to a point where the NGT's are going to have to refuel to a certain extent)? [EDIT] Clearly I was meaning losing the 5 min stop for this ..... [EDIT]
