Moderator's Report

At end of warmup lap Ossie engages his pit limiter at apex of La Source hairpin even though Jan, and most others immediately in front, had not. Predictably, those in front pull away from Ossie who then disengages his limiter to catch up again. Dan Minton, who is immediately behind Ossie, doesn't put his limiter on until Ossie does for second time but Madd-RIP, who is two cars back, follows Ossie's lead and engages his at hairpin but keeps it on until start of race. Therefore Madd-RIP, and those behind, are left with a substantial gap to make up even before race has started.

I believe that Ossie makes two mistakes here. Firstly he puts his limiter on too early. The rules state that they should be engaged around 20 seconds before start but he first puts them on, at hairpin, quite a way before then and before those in front do. Secondly, he then disengages it to catch up with those in front when the rules state that this should only be done when the driver in front has disengaged theirs. Luckily, this didn't have dangerous repercussions futher down the field becuase Madd reacted sensibly and kept his limiter engaged. Or else the confusing turning on/off of limiter, and sudden accelerating/decelerating, just before the start could have proved dangerous for those behind him.

Spanner runs off track, and into the sand, at Pouhon. He then appears to take all the necessary caution for a rejoin until he gets to the grass on the edge of track, where he accelerates too early and spins into middle of track where he is stationary for just a moment. Unfortunately Purdie comes around the corner immediately after, can not avoid Spanner and there is a big impact which drops Purdie from 1st to 9th.

I know how to get there from the homepage, I just thought there was a link to that page under the results in the forum. That's the one I couldn't find, probably as it isn't there  Tongue Grin.

Would it be a good idea to ask drivers not to do donuts in future and to quit as soon as possible after finishing?

I sometimes get slight freezing when people quit. Maybe just return to pits if it's causing people issues

If switching ON simple debris collisions works then I'm not fussed.

Rather pleased to end up 2nd, given that my record at Spa isn't that hot (I think the slower tracks suit my style more). Started 4th in class behind Jeff, Backo and Darren (who seems to really thrive at Spa  thumbup1). I got a run past Darren after Eau rouge early on and Backo went wide at Pouhon, so that left me chasing JR. As he says, I was quicker through ER but struggling in the middle, and after a while I got a good enough run to pass him into les combes. I wasn't really comfortable though, as I knew he was really quick at Spa and to put it bluntly, I wasn't. I think my subconcious gave the place back in the end, running wide on the exit of les combes, and after that I was happy to settle into 2nd. I hoped his tyres would go off before mine, but I think we both had problems at the same time (as did the chasing cars, who never seemed to close the 2 second gap). After Mark spun I had him chasing for a while, but I wasn't going to fight a GT2 at Spa in a GTC for long and he was past with a few laps left. Then I was aware that Backo was closing in in the final minutes, but he must have been pushing hard because he suddenly dropped back to -8 secs, leaving me to finish a safe 2 secs behind JR. Congrats to him for a good drive with more ballast and to Baracus for the GT2 win. Looking forward now to Hock and beyond, as I won't be there on Sunday as I'll be at the Ring all weekend. Have fun  Smiley

A very lucky result for me - this race should have been Purdie's no doubt. He was like greased lightning through Eau Rouge every time!!

Was a really intense first few laps (9 or 10 laps) with a great 3-way battle. In the end I think my tyres were behaving very well for the race length and I had confidence that I could keep up my pace, but it wasn't genuinely fast enough to win.

I'm somewhat surprised to find myself in the lead of the GT2 standings now! No pressure Shocked

EDIT: I didnt realise donuts would cause an issue for people especially if were not on the same "field of view" at the time... so sorry!! I wont do that again! - but it was only my 2nd GTR win so I was a bit high :-)

I've never ever had the stuttering due to doughnuts at the end of races as bad as last night. I can always tell during a race when someone has spun anywhere on the circuit because there is a stuttering, but it's always been shortlived and easily driveable, but last night it went down to very low fps for a good 10 seconds (as in so slow that it was like a slideshow). I dunno what was different about last night to make it do this, but if turning on simple debris collisions works then good enough for me.

I notice that Simple Debris Collisions is not an option in RACE 07, it's already enabled by default in the plr file so they know there is a flaw there I guess.

... and so is the link to the league table Wink
I am blind, where is it? Embarrassed
Look under Series, in this case U6LS

Don't know what U stands for, but rest is Season 6, Lower Sprint

U = UKGTR (and L is UKGTL). JR, the link is at the top right of every forum page, just left of the recent block...

I'm just trying to add up why so few drivers actually have positive ballast of any note, apart from me and you.

If you look at the championship tables you'll see that there have been only a very limited number of regular drivers on the podium in either class.

Long may the doughnuts continue! It does make me laugh when people insist that they machines are super uberninjascopic that they 'can' turn on all possible options without any consequences. It was 5+ years before anyone had a machine powerful enough to run GPL flat out and GTR2 is a lot more demanding than GPL ever was...

Excellent race for me. In qualifying I cocked my first flying lap up by running wide at Blanchimont and having the lap time cancelled, especially annoying as I'd spent the outlap really working hard on getting the tyres up to temperature. So I did a banker lap, getting a perfectly respectable low 2:24, then threw caution to the wind and did a banzai final flying lap, knowing that the tyres were past their best but trusting the front end to stick in the critical exit of Stavelot and then into the Bus Stop, netting myself a PB lap which was only two tenths of breaking into the 22s.

I tried a bit of an experiment last night, setting up the clutch pedal to operate Team Speak. The theory was that it would force me to only talk in areas of the track where I have concentration to spare. I think it worked - though I didn't know at the time whether the result would actually be me going off with my left foot on the wrong pedal. laugh

I thought the pace lap was excellent, plenty of opportunity to work my tyres up to nearly 60. Only blemish was Madd leaving a huge gap in front of him on the limiter - we must've given away several seconds to the cars in front for no good reason. Undecided

Race got underway and the cars in front were pulling away already so I just settled down for a few laps to concentrate on getting the tyres and brakes completely up to temperature without scrubbing them too hard. Both RVS Moslers were kind enough to chuck themselves off the road for me. laugh Shark soon overhauld Picnic's lovely bubbly Aero 8 and I knew he was on softs so I pushed hard knowing that if I could keep the gap for long enough for his fronts to go off I'd be okay.

I managed to sneak past Ossie for a few corners after he got stuck behind a somewhat recalcitrant lapped M3, but the Z was no match for the M3's sheer grunt and he soon got back past. Ossie obvously went to the same school of M3 driving as Adam Parle, throwing the car sideways into every corner, locking brakes, dipping wheels off and generally failing to look after the tyres at all - in short, overdriving. Roll Eyes PRibeiro in the meantime had snuck up behind and made short work of getting by both of us, his 996 being much, much faster down the Kemmel straight. Shark attacked hard for a few laps but I held firm until his fronts melted and I was able to start pulling away again.

Then I went back to the slower Radicals in Race '07 for a few minutes. Cheesy

Well maybe if Simbin had labelled certain in game options as horrendous FPS causing bugs in the game menus we'd know which options we could and couldn't run. Roll Eyes God forbid getting a bit of software and using the available software options. Roll Eyes It's the same old story, lack of testing, lack of testing, lack of testing. It's the same in every bit of software on the planet, otherwise we wouldn't even know the terms patch and service pack. laugh

Even better - something in the 'manual' which actually explains what some functions do, rather than something like "Simple Debris Collisions - select this option to enable simple debris collisions".

This sort of thing seems to be becoming the 'norm' for manuals - not just for games either. Dammit! I want to know what it actually *DOES*. Roll Eyes
