Thanks to all those who organised and took part in these races.
I had been looking forward to these races as a fun evening after the excesses of Christmas and, just for once, I thought I had done some decent preparation.
Before I had always struggled with the D-type and that horrible gearbox where someone has stolen a ratio. In private practice I had squeezed my PB down to the low 1:17's and during the pre race stuff I managed a 1:16, so I was quite chuffed with that side of things.........but.... My actual race could have been better. I am still in awe of John W and Cap's lap times and how on earth they find those extra seconds when I am completely on a knife edge of adhesion and control !!
I managed to elbow my way past Geoffers early in the race to steal 3rd spot, which he made very clear that he wanted back as he chased me hard until he was harpooned by someone at the hairpin crossing the centre grass. I made the mistake of easing off, thinking that I would have a comfortable cushion when he had recovered, but it simply inspired Geoffers and he upped his pace it seems. Then I made an error at the end of the straight and spun the car 180, which was bad enough, but I also allowed the engine to stall ??!!
By the time I had gathered things together I had dropped way down the field, and basically pushed too hard to regain places.
A rather solid connection with the Armco did nothing to improve the handling and to cap it all as I entered the S/F straight on the last lap the engine coughed and died and I just coasted across the line in silence and frustration.
At least I felt that would be the most frustration that I would feel.........................
