After being away for a wee bit whilst moving house and so on i have a question, Success ballast.... I am correct in thinking there is software on the server that takes care of this or do we have to pick the correctly ballasted car as we join?

The Skin Pack provides a base ballast for each car, you need this for the skins anyway. The individual driver ballasts are handled purely by clever code on the server

Doubt it, most of us are using the no-cd patch I believe. Can't understand your problem as we've not changed the server config for a while and we've obviously been connecting ok ourselves Reinstalled GTR2, works, cu tonight. Jan

Surely my computer handles the calculations for my car and just reports the positions of the others on the track. Does it mean more network traffic having to talk to the server before doing anything? It just sounds a bit strange thats all, witchcraft I might not make it tonite as i'm not feeling too well, not sure i can concentrate on driving for that long! Its pretty tiring, though thats probably due to me fighting the car most of the time Err.. not to mention that braking is a weakness of mine so never really like the circuit.

It just sounds a bit strange thats all, witchcraft If you mean the ballasts, it just makes use of capabilities in the server and network protocol which aren't normally exposed by the dedicated server. So no extra traffic.

what do you think the chances of a reserve driver racing tonight are? Before I spend an hour and a half practicing befor the race, (like sunday ) I would just like to know if I have a chance of actually being able to race.

I give up. This season has been a complete nightmare so far....
I struggled through practise to come to terms with the negative ballast. I finally found a decent setup late in qualifying and managed 2 flying laps. The first was looking to be a very low 1:51 until it was spoilt by a spinner, and with my second and last attempt I managed a 1:51.5 which got me 5th in class.
However, my PC decided to disconnect during warm up which meant I couldn't rejoin. :'(
Really disappointed because I felt competitive here.
I hope you guys have more luck than me.

I KNOW the feeling Darren :'( My 6th season, its been a huge nightmare aswell. All races so far i had or someone hitting me, or weird PC behavior. Tonight, just when the qual session finished, my PC rebooted himself and i couldnt be able to rejoin in warmup session also Hope you had fun guys. Cheers

My race was over in the rolling start. Someone in a Shark Morgan spun comming out of Ascari, and was spinning into the direction I was exiting at. Hit him fairly hard, I lost my front chin spoiler, he lost his hood.
We both had to pit in for repairs before even going past the finish line. Was thinking of quitting out then, but I figure I'm not gonna have many chances to race in GTR2, and I felt like making a pylon for the leaders.
Came out of my repairs ahead of the Morgan, and was 30 seconds behind 23rd. Weaseled my way into 19th, and had some pressure on the final two laps for it. Unfortunatley my tyres were cooked and I had a hard time "Turning it on" to keep my position. Luckily I kept it and joined into the destruction derby in 19th.
I was almmost 10 seconds off 1st, I don't know how you guys do it. I struggled to get a 1:53:4 in practice and the majority of the feild is in 1:50 territory.
