that was another awesome GTL race on yet another cracking little track
. I still think the Brit tracks alone would make a great championship, most of them were used extensively in the 60's and 70's to prove the point !
Hadnt even installed the track until 20 mins before 1st practise of the event
Kept plugging away on the praccy laps until i finally found the ideal lines and pace.
Qualied a fine 2nd place behind the Alfa-Meister Baracus
with the ominous rumble of Jeffs Mustang sitting alongside in the 3rd...D'oh !...just knew he would get to T1 before me with all that power :'(
Him and Baracus stormed a couple of secs up ahead for the first few laps until i had got my race rythm going and then i closed on Jeffs Yanktank for my now customary race long duel with him
...it didnt disapoint!
yet another cracking epic battle over 2nd place, within a second of each other (except when we encountered traffic), that lasted all the way up until lap 37 of 39.
Thats where it ended thanks to some unfortunate intervention from the guy behind me
who had closed down our good gap because of the lapped traffic.
I turned into the final turn before s/f straight as per the previous 36 laps, close on Jeffs yankee butt, except i then got hit from behind and turned around
...needless to say i turned the air blue and startled any nearby nesting wildlife with an animal like roar
I know its racing and its hard to make a pass in equal machinery but jeez you have to use some restraint. That was it for me, i lost all concentration and my blood pressure had reached meltdown. The driver involved had let me back in front on track but Steve H had stolen through to nick my hard earned 3rd and to add insult to injury i then made my first mistake of the whole race by running wide at T1 on the final lap and 'said offender' took 4th from me.
A very crap end to what had been a brilliant race. :'(
Grats to Jeff for another corking battle and clean racing despite some side by side moments and wild slides, and very well done to Baracus, god of Classics
The pace in the top 6 was amazing tonight.
