Seems I lack both pace and luck. This one-make race clearly showed the former, at least. I qualified 7th and decided to take it easy at the start, and as a result lost four places. It turned out I would have lost them one way or another anyway, with people slowly catching me. I let my team-mate Legzy past, and on the next lap believed I had allowed goldtop to cleanly pass me on the inside when I was hit by somebody arriving from behind at warp speed. I rejoined even further down the field and my steering was buggered; I could hardly keep it on the road down the long straight. SuperSwift who was in front of me fell off, however, but I was soon caught by my other team-mate AnimalEd. With the steering increasingly random, the inevitable happened a few laps from the end and I went off coming onto the s/f straight.

That was that - see you all in a few weeks, I'll miss the next three races at least.

Hey John. don't hang about mate. Season 25 sign-ups are NOW for GPL

https://www.simracing.org.uk/smf/index.php?board=48.0

Look up the Season 25 registration threads and see if any of them take your fancy.

BTW we also run GTL here  angel

Well what a fab race, who could have predicted this combo would have been such a winner! sweatdrop sweatdrop

Keep coming John B, it'll only take a few races to get up to speed. I used to do the same, try to complete as many laps as possible beofore I was getting lapped by the main pack.

Never mind NPP, next time Wink

I'll keep my eye on this series and maybe join Season 9 from the beginning. Then again, there is a quite active GPL community here...

Cheers!

JB

You might as well join these races John.  Season 9 is probably months off and you can use these for practice.

This was a single make spec race so there is nowhere to hide.  You have to be in the same car as those two aliens who vanished over the hill.

Other races have a mix of cars and you may find something that you like.

Good race! Everyone in the back of the grid was on their best behavior at the start. For the first few laps, I was keeping up with phspok. Then a car was parked in the first right hand corner, and I was going to fast not to run wide. I went off course maybe two more times after that before I learned my lesson. I was racing with SuperSWIFT towards the end of the race. Then he unfortunately went wide in the sharp left hand corner. Not a bad race, but not my best either. I hope that I stayed out of the lead cars as they lapped me.

Thanks all,
Walter

good race all. but too many mistakes for me tonight.
10 position in qualy, and good start in grid. i knew that this track was very difficult.
for some laps i had a good pace, but when the tires were at 10 wear out, i began to have some difficult with handling.
in fact at last lap, i made a big mistake and i kicked the wall. end of game
during the return in track after the mistakes, maybe i returned too hardly . sorry for coming drivers. next time i ll be more guarded. sorry for this.

Two mistakes! First when i was naive thinking that I could take Geoffers on the outside than run out of tarmac, and second when I was attempting to overtake Syd and allowed to myself to be distracted by his swerving in braking zone and went on grass ... sorry NPP, almost missed you but almost is not enough ... race to forget.

I`ll miss next race. I'm going to check is the salt water saltier than last year was.

Horrible race for me. Possibly the worst car I've driven so far in PnG and a track that I've never particularly liked meant I had no interest in practising.

On a positive note, it's nice to have a race with no discos  thumbup1

Results and Replay Posted

Well I enjoyed it, no one to play with for a lot of the time, but was great fun at times

"who could have predicted this combo would have been such a winner!"  Well........ err I did  Grin

"On a positive note, it's nice to have a race with no discos" Quite. a one off proves nothing, but my aging AMD machine (a different machine than my race system)
on a domestic fibre line has tonight been way more reliable than our server for the last few races  detective  This is not how it should be IMHO
All the people who left retired, and no one discoed as far as I could tell.

Ping was a bit variable at first, but from half distance people's ping was 70-80 and fairly stable. I have never seen a steady 80 ping to CLive before
or John_W.  Shocked I saw a tiny bit of warping to Tony for a few minutes, but it settled down after a couple of laps.

Wiltsure, Legzy, Clive,

Thanks for the encouragement guys.

On Topic:

That Austin Healey 3000 MK I was a fright to drive. I know next to nothing about setups so I used the slider system to set it up. With the soft/hard suspension slider all the way to the right it still seems 'floaty,' while steering left ever so slightly, past the start/finish line, and then braking for T1. My best lap, granted without a lot of practice, was 1:27.947? If I'd had more practice time I don't know where I'd have found even just five seconds in that beast.

Off Topic:

I have to say I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by choice here at SRoU. The three sims, outside iRacing, that I'm most interested in - GPL, GTR2, and PnG3 - seem very active here. I am in the iGPFun Spec Racer Ford league at iRacing and quite enjoying it too. At the free tracks we're getting 25 gridded - and about 20 for paid tracks.

GPL? iRacing? GTR2? PnG3? I see Race 07 listed on this site too but there doesn't seem to be much interest in it. Since it followed GTR2 I wonder in what way it's inferior.

GPL surprises me the most. Luca Varani, an Italian, founded our iGPFun league and has for 10 years plus ran a GPL league. When I first met him on iRacing I asked "Why iRacing now?" He said, "GPL is dead." I guess he doesn't know about this site.

I don't know how I'll choose where to spend my practice and racing time. Wherever it is I do want to see large grids. Can GPL handle more than a dozen or so in a race? (I'll check past results to answer that myself). I have it installed and, I think, properly updated but at certain tracks weird things happen. At Spa, for instance, if I put myself last on a grid of 20 I can't see my car, and the track graphics are screwed up, until we're moving and I advance a little down the track. Is that a common problem?

I have a little Bio/GPL history I've posted here.

While looking for an appropriate forum section to I noticed the B.R.E.A.S.T.S. sections. Hmmm. Did someone thing long and, uh, hard about how to come up with a name for something using that abbreviation?

John B, I don't think the sliders are very helpful. In P&G, the default setups are usually quite good, just a little understeery for my taste. Usually, all I do is select the appropriate tyre and amount of fuel, adjust the gearing, and soften the front slightly (roll bar, springs, dampers).

I seem to remember from RSC days that BREASTS was sort of a response to ARSE (American Racing Simulators Enthusiasts?), or was it the other way around?

Congrats to JohnW for the win, seems to have been really tight up front!

Ed, are you sure you hit me? I thought it was Giuseppe, at least I assumed as much from the fact that he disconnected right after I was hit. Anyway, I braked early to let GT past who did not really commit to passing me so we were both going slower than normal. This could have caught out people behind ...

Somewhat surprised at how well that went for me, as even just 30 minutes before the race i could barely keep the car on track for a full lap without spinning out at T1/2/3. Then something just clicked, and combined with some setup changes i finally had some consistency.

Kept Geoffers and Clive in sight pretty much throughout - until Geoff had some sort of a moment at the final corner, and i passed him sat at the side of the track. That left me in P4 a few secs behind Clive. Was taking chunks out of the gap in the later laps, so i guess Clive had some sort of a problem or was just taking it easy towards the end. Anyway, good fun and enjoyed throwing the Healey around here.

Congrats podium and cyu next time.

It was me.

After my offroad excursion in first lap, I was catching you fast and Syd was behind You and GT in the middle of the road. I went for inside line and when he hit brakes and swerve to my side (not deliberately I think, at least I was all over the place in some braking zones but not that one) I move to the right instinctively ... on the grass ...

I'm glad I got some practice in during the week, as there was nothing between Daniele and I for most of the race. Daniele got a better start and was ahead going into T1, luckily the tow down the straight kept me in touch for the first few laps until he went wide and I took the lead. Then the roles were reversed and I was the one defending down the straight for the next few laps. Got a break after a while and managed to get out of slipstream range, but the gap was never more than a couple of seconds until the chequered flag, with Daniele closing up slightly near the end as my confidence tyres started to wear out...

John B - Good to see another new face Smiley As someone has already said, the single make series highlights the difference in speed between the drivers, but most weeks the car choice is more open and the faster guys often take slower cars, so the racing should be closer. If you decide to stick with PnG, it would be worth joining a team to get the benefit of some shared setups to get you off to a good start.

Speaking of set-ups, I wish that I had softened the dampers a bit. I didn't notice all the bumps until after the race started.

I did not put in much practice time, but found that doing laps in time trial mode helped me improve my pace the fastest. But then I had to adjust to the difference of grip when racing online.

I was very happy that I was able to join you all for the race. I did not know that I could race until about 10 minutes before hand.
