I even found a great setting that I'd like to trial one day here - that randomly introduces differing grip levels around the track (simulating fluid spills or dirt on the track essentially). I'm not sure if these local spots clear over time or if they just stay but it certainly adds to realism in any classic or historic event where fluids are out of the cars nearly as much as in them You can do that in AC ??

Yeah - it's an option offline at least when you make a custom championship. I haven't looked into server settings to do the same thing yet

Ohh, never got into those championship/challenge things.. But I've never seen such an option in the AC server manager. I guess for this and plenty of other stuff or improvements, we will have to wait for THE definitive classic car racing sim..

Not sure I might make this one as this track wants to kill my wheel.. And I don't want that to happen before I can buy a DD (yeah CSL DD I'm looking at you)...

The download from that link gives me 8 Watkins tracks, not one a GP and all 5700 plus. Sorry a couple at 3950.

I'm with Tim I think, in one word : whatever ! The driver job is to adapt to conditions. And yes 100% grip isn't realistic at all. I'm all for some changing conditions as long as we can see the track well. The only con to me is that we can't compare our laptimes easily with others. Maybe we could set the server up with constant 100% grip for that purpose and then introduce a realistic setting only for the actual race server ? If we aim for realistic better would be static 96% for practice server. In real life everyone had identical grip when practicing. This randomness in practice grip gives random advantage to those that have had race grip while practicing.

I'm struggling to remote onto the server at the moment. I keep getting errors when trying to connect....
I'm going to find the details and try again from a different computer and hope for the best

Server seem to have 36 laps, not 45.

Well, I was starting to understand this awesome track, got a back grid position but I wasn't so unhappy. Got passed at the start, then re-pass, then caught Tim after a slight mistake, felt very concentrated, track was almost void ahead, tyres and brakes were warmed up,... then suddenly realised I had missed the 'not to get skipped' braking mark 100m at the end of that long back-straight, just got enough time to think "I'm dead". Felt very realistic I'm afraid.

I went off while just taking it easy on lap 1 Car went into a glitchy spin for about 10 seconds then dropped into a hole and I was ported to the pits. I hit drive expecting a long penalty but was just dropped a lap and was able to continue. Made the same silly mistake a couple of laps later but got away with that one, then a few laps later put a wheel on the kerb and had another glitchy spin that seemed to go on forever until it finally blipped my engine. Hit esc to pits but this time I had a 789 second penalty I'm too old to wait around for that.

pfft what a load of piffle
"connection to the server lost"
kept going for a few laps and it did reconnect but the lap count etc was messed up, and then it dropped again, so I give up...

So nice to be back to the Glen!
Qualifying was really close, three drivers in 39 thousandths.
I tried to overtake Max at the start but he defended well the first place, had Jukka behind, at the end of the second straight he tried to pass on the inside, we touched a little bit, but both of us escaped safe from that. Max had a better pace and was pulling away, what a pity he got disconnected after a few laps. Jukka probably made a mistake and suddenly had a big gap from me. For the rest of the race i was alone, tried to get the fast lap not to get deconcentrated.
See you in Pinewood!
