Moderator's Report

Server replay time: 0

A couple drivers were reported for chatting during the race. This can be distracting, please limit any chat to pit-in and pit-out messages.

Server replay time: 118s

Approaching the double right-hander before the chicane Keith is battling Syd closely, with Ossie a distance behind. Ossie appears to miss his braking point, passes Syd and hits Keith quite hard, forcing him off the track.

  • ossie (0ssie)penalty — Rear-end collision. — 2 places lost
For advice only - unreported by victim, so penalty disregarded

Server replay time: 192s

Backo tries to pass Pribero at the double right hander. Pribero turns in, and his car is forced off the track.

This was an over-ambitous move. Backo does not achieve any overlap before turn-in so was not entitled to dive up the inside. Backo apologised for the contact, and Pribero requested that no penalty be applied.

  • BACKOpenalty — Over-ambitious overtake. — 2 places lost (plus 9 for penalty points)
For advice only - unreported by victim, so penalty disregarded

Server replay time: 198s

After the previous incident, Backo brakes very early for the chicane, with the intention of waiting for Pribero to recover. Unfortunately Mike Hammer is close behind, and cannot avoid hitting him. The impact spins Backo off the track.

Mike was not at fault for the collision, he could not have anticipated that Backo would slow down where he did. Backo's intentions were good, but unfortunately he caused a second incident. After causing an incident drivers should only wait for the victim to recover if they can do so safely and without interfering with other drivers on track.

  • BACKOwarning — Unsafe attempt to pull over.
For advice only - unreported by victim, so penalty disregarded

Server replay time: 703s

Ossie is chasing down Phil Gilliland along the back straight. He is some way behind apporaching the double right hander, but manages to out-brake Phil and get alongside. Phil doesn't spot him, and turns-in, resulting in contact which knocks Phil off the track.

Ossie did manage to get a decent overlap before turn-in, so was entitled to racing room on the inside. Phil should have left room accordingly . However, Phil was probably caught by suprise as Ossie made up a lot of ground in the braking zone, so I'm reducing this one to a caution.

Shame I missed this one, leg just isn't up to it yet Sad  I agree in a way with the standing starts, I prefer them but people need to calm down a little.  Far too much overdriving going on, that's all I'll say Tongue

I would say judge the track before the race to see if a Standing start will be to hectic. Then choose what would be best for a smooth start.

I don't mind Standing starts, however, I've always had a great reaction time on standing starts - which unfortunately - usually causes me to have to slam on my breaks because I'm about to rear-end the person in front of me Sad

And although it wasn't to disastrous, it wasn't very pleasing or fun to have my race over in the first turn, not to mention the risk of me ruining someone else's race as I'm being spun into T1 :/

Another great race, had a bad start, latly i´m having lamme starts.

i knew the Capri icould be faster than the 906, but i spinned 2 times wich made totaly lost tha fight for 1st or 2nd.

The track requires a lot of concentration, and in the end my left hand was really hurting.

Also i had too mutch fuel on my tank.

We will not be having some rolling starts and some standing starts.

It's hard enough getting drivers to remember which they are doing despite it being in red letters in the announcement and even with the pre-race check-list I run through in capital letters from the server we still get drivers asking on the line which start type it is. (well one this time (you know who you are Wink), which almost caused me to false start typing in a response as I let go of the brake!  Shocked) Roll Eyes

We will continue with standing starts for the rest of the season and then it will be reviewed, but so far I'm not happy with them so they need to improve. As I said some of it is down to the networking code needing time to settle the cars from the start as it's the biggest part of the race that has lag or warp or dissapearing/appearing cars and it's the most critical time to have stable cars.

In my wisdom I selected the Capri RS2600 (yep the Brown Capri). In practice and quail it performed really well.  Managed a 1:20.5 for quail which was good for me - new track & in a car I rarely drive.

My race started OK, some of the faster dudes went off so I peaked at position 12th or 13th? I was taking it relatively easy 1st lap & all, when a RS3100 rear ends me – this sends me off into a barrier > oh well ***t happens.  I quickly recover but car is pulling to one side slightly…still have 30’ish laps to drive Sad

The RS2600 puts up the best fight it can but is simply out-gunned by every other car, plus I made too many mistakes......

Shame bout the damage early on as the RS2600 seemed so suited to this track.

Hi

Firstly can I say something about the starts? Yes standing starts cause a lot of confusion and sometimes carnage. However they do give the slower guys a chance to get a good start and actually get into the race proper now and again. I had have been racing on No Grip for about nine months now and in their Sunday races with the regular drivers there isn't much of a problem with the starts. The standard of driving on here, even from the slower guys, is far superior to the standard on No Grip so I think all is required is a bit more discipline from all of us and everything will be fine.

Secondly, thanks for your apology Kevin Mallender, but there really was no need. Everybody has to learn and that class of car is not the easiest to drive! It's also not as easy driving at the back of the pack as some of these fast guys think it is! Because of some health problems I have spent my entire online career starting at the back!

Thirdly I would just like to say thanks to everybody for the fairness and general excellent quality of driving. That is three races in a row where I haven't been hit from behind, pushed off by an impatient lapping driver or had headlights flashed at me because I won't move out of the way half way through a chicane! The standard of driving on here really does make it so much more fun.

Now, to the point, the race! Qualified 16th and took advantage of the mishaps on the first couple of laps and by lap 7 had got to the dizzy heights of eighth! Was soon overtaken but was pulling away from tenth place so thought I could get my first top ten finish. Then got carried away, stuffed it into the gravel and came back on around 12th.

The middle part of the race was just trying to catch up then around lap 20 Ossie appeared in my mirror. The rest of the race was a battle with him and it was great. He did overtake me only for Kevin to have his mishap and hit us both by mistake and I got the position back. But he was much quicker and I had to rely on keeping a very tight line to keep him behind me. The fact he never hit me once is testimony to his great driving. Unfortunately he then got tied up with lapping cars and dropped back a bit with a couple of laps to go.

So I acheived what I wanted, another finish and once again in the points! I don't have any chemo next week so should be well rested for Crystal Palace and hopefully can finally get that top ten! Cheers everyone, see you next week.

As for my race it was pretty dull for the most part, which was okay as my goal was to score some points rather than keep overdriving and DNFing.  Ran well up in the top 10 for most of the race as everyone else hurled themselves at the scenery  Cheesy  Cheesy  Cheesy.  Had a great scrap with Mr Holmes and was very sorry to see him spin a couple of laps after he'd got past me.  I almost felt like slowing down so we could scrap again but... naah!  And sorry if I was a bit easy to overtake today but I just wanted to see the finish line!!!

I enjoyed that one too, good few laps of dicing.  You weren't too easy to overtake, no real mistakes, just the Escort having a little more low-speed acceleration.

Again enjoyed the start, think I was 7th or 8th after first corner from 14th grid slot (another utterly hopeless qualifying that sapped confidence), just drove cleanly round the outside.  Started getting into the race then, found myself 4th for a good few laps (after several incidents near the front) while I settled in and found some reasonable speed, but not enough to keep Mike Hammer's 906 behind, didn't see the point in being rude so I tried not to block...and he ran off track a short time after passing me anyway  Wink

Then I managed to spin it the first time and fell to 7th or 8th, just never found any confidence through the final chicane, kept bungling it as I tensed up.  Then after Hammer got by (again  Tongue) I had the nice battle with John Kingham's tank of a BMW, then I managed to bungle the chicane again and spin for a second time  :'(

Never mind, considering how under the weather I felt, I guess 8th was okay, but the shame of being lapped 2 corners from the end, if I'd know you were on your final lap Madd, I'd have kept you behind me, and completed the full race distance  Cheesy

Back to the TC65s next week, hooray.

I like the fact that this GTR manager allows the server to give automated information and instructions prior to the race start...but would it be possible/feasable to do it either before or after qualifying?

I actually found it a bit distracting just at the end of quali when I was trying to put a final quick lap in.

There's no warmup in GTL to do it in and the countdown is only 30 seconds - the admin drivers are usually busy preparing for the start themselves!

Yes my apologies, however, as Gizmo says there is no warmup session possibility in GT Legends where these messages should be sent. I don't even think there is a Q1 and Q2 in GT Legends where you could use Q2 as a "dead" session for pre-race announcements etc.

Thanks for your kind words about my driving but I don't think it was that good.

That was one of the best battles I have had for a long time.  Extremly enjoyable thanks Madmac.  Lets hope we can have a few more.

I have just started the vid by the way.
