Moderator's Report

At end of warmup lap Ossie engages his pit limiter at apex of La Source hairpin even though Jan, and most others immediately in front, had not. Predictably, those in front pull away from Ossie who then disengages his limiter to catch up again. Dan Minton, who is immediately behind Ossie, doesn't put his limiter on until Ossie does for second time but Madd-RIP, who is two cars back, follows Ossie's lead and engages his at hairpin but keeps it on until start of race. Therefore Madd-RIP, and those behind, are left with a substantial gap to make up even before race has started.

I believe that Ossie makes two mistakes here. Firstly he puts his limiter on too early. The rules state that they should be engaged around 20 seconds before start but he first puts them on, at hairpin, quite a way before then and before those in front do. Secondly, he then disengages it to catch up with those in front when the rules state that this should only be done when the driver in front has disengaged theirs. Luckily, this didn't have dangerous repercussions futher down the field becuase Madd reacted sensibly and kept his limiter engaged. Or else the confusing turning on/off of limiter, and sudden accelerating/decelerating, just before the start could have proved dangerous for those behind him.

Spanner runs off track, and into the sand, at Pouhon. He then appears to take all the necessary caution for a rejoin until he gets to the grass on the edge of track, where he accelerates too early and spins into middle of track where he is stationary for just a moment. Unfortunately Purdie comes around the corner immediately after, can not avoid Spanner and there is a big impact which drops Purdie from 1st to 9th.

Dammit! I want to know what it actually *DOES*. Roll Eyes

Having this turned off will make the game calculate exactly how a piece of debri falls off and behaves. In GTR2 there is no good physicssoftware for pieces of debri (like ragdollphysics etc.). So when people crash and pieces fly around, the game calculates every small piece, how it bounces etc. This overloads any PC, as GTR2 is already very demanding. So the only option is to have "Simple Debri Collision" turned ON!

Sorry, Jeff - I do know what SDC does, I was just moaning about the general state of instruction manuals telling you how to enable things, rather than telling you what they do..

Even better - something in the 'manual' which actually explains what some functions do, rather than something like "Simple Debris Collisions - select this option to enable simple debris collisions".

This sort of thing seems to be becoming the 'norm' for manuals - not just for games either. Dammit! I want to know what it actually *DOES*. Roll Eyes

It's not just manuals. The code I currently have the misfortune to be working on is full of stuff with comments like:
Code:
    /**
     * @return dealer reference number
     */
    public String getDealerReferenceNumber() {
        return dealerReferenceNumber;
    }
Thanks. I could never have worked out what it did without that comment. Roll Eyes

Really enjoyed that last night! I am not very confident at all round Spa so it was a case of damage limitation. Qualifying went well set a PB in my first flying lap and thought I could go faster. Ended up just falling short of that lap the rest of the session while everyone else was improving and I dropped down to 8th.

Race start went ok, Colin was pressuring me the entire first 30 mins while we were chasing the 3 car battle of Brian, TT and MJ. They seemed to be using their tyres a bit while   so just tried to keep a steady pace and conserve a bit. Got close to MJ a couple of times but not enough to make a move but was happy to sit behind and then push in the later stages. MJ then touched the side of Brian into Bus Stop and me and Colin both got by. Was expecting to see you come back up in the mirrors and sorry to hear you got stuck on the barrier. TT was dissappearing into the distance and I started to push and close in on Brian. He then had a bit of a slide in Eau Rouge, caught it well but lost lots of momentum and I was able to pass down the straight. I pushed hard to chase TT which opened up a little gap to Brain and Colin but Rears began to go off a bit and wasn't going to catch TT so eased a little to bring it home 5th.

Congrats to Bara, Ruskus and the other podium finishers and thanks to TT, Brian, Colin and MJ for a cracking clean battle.

Amazing race last night for me!!! Shocked I really enjoyed  it. Grin Qualified like 11'th and finished race same 11'th.After start  I had more speed after Eau rouge and I past Ruskus,but in same lap came my mistake,I went wide ,happy to stay half car on tarmac.I lost 3 or 4 positions.After that I had nice racing with Daren with Morgan same like me.Close and nice race mate!!! ;)Now I'm looking forward for enduro race!!! Grin Congratulation top 3 each class! thumbup1

Enjoyed that too Paul. I was never fast enough at any point to get by you. I decided to sit and gain a decent pace and hope for a mistake, but you drove a good race and that never happened. Any mistakes I made were through Aue Rouge but apart from that I drove okay. Put some pressure on Brian in the closing stages as I think his tyres were going. Didn't want to be forceful so sat back waiting. In the end I was never going to get passed without a mistake being made.

Congratulations to Bara and Jeff for class wins.

Hell yes. It's the same where I work. We write the software and the guy that writes the manual has no idea what it does so you get "Enable LTI voice compression" and you can gaurantee when you see the manual all it says is "tick this option to enable LTI voice compression". You can tell him till you're blue in the face what it does and how it works, but it's in one ear and out the other.

Really the only people that can write decent manuals are the people that write the software but a) they're too busy writing the software, b) aren't the best at writing and presenting information in a document (mainly (a) I would point out!)

Good race.Very high standard.Had some good fights with Edam and Darren.Darren defended his position like a lion,couple of times side by side,he closed the door in Malmedy when i tried a desparate pass,we touched but nothing serious.We finished 0.2 sec apart.
Another enjoyable night,thx guys.Btw.We need more tracks like Spa, Road America is a good one or Mugello.

Hoorah, although I don't like the new bus stop. Something not right about that corner, it's got a horrible flow to it especially compared to the rest of the circuit which has such fabulous flow.

I don't really like it that much. Parts of it are okay but Stavelot is a horrid corner where the tiniest mistake can cost a whole second of lap time, and the whole thing is far too long which gets dull very quickly if you're not actually in direct contact with anyone.

You don't like Spa that much but you like Adria?

That's like saying you'd pass up on Nelly Furtado for Pat Butcher off Eastenders.

Sleeping with Pat Butcher is very similar to a boxing match, a large heavy weight partner, manly and butch, going to give you a pounding and maybe knock you out!
