OK I have run 55 laps, my average time is 1.45.50 my best time is 1.44.736. This is using default car settings still. on one run I ran out of fuel on lap 23 which i think could have been a new personal best. . I run consistent 145s and have no major incidents, except running out of fuel and the odd 360 on that hairpin. So with this in mind am I likely to get lapped by every one or do you think I'll be alright?

Make sure you are confident with pit stops as one is obligatory during the race during which you must take some fuel and/or tyres. Make sure you understand the rules about the rolling start under the pit limiter - this has massively cut down first lap 'pile-ups' and is probably different to other on-line races for have tried. Relax and enjoy the race.

You'll be fine - you are 2 secs quicker and low fuel will make that even better. The main problem will be knowing how to deal with fuel, tyres, pitstops, rolling starts, wet weather, bad light, etc.

Thanks again guys you are all being very helpfull and welcoming, Which is unusual for online gaming. Now back to the race, I have more questions hope you don't mind. Firstly, In going back over the UKGTR Rules I noticed that if I change cars more than once in a season I will be penalised, so does that mean that that car I choose for THIS RACE is the car I will be racing for the whole season? if so then I think I will wait for a faster class to race in as i struggle more in the slower cars. (or does it not work like this at all) Also Looking at the weather forecast for Germany on sunday is likely to be dry? so this means the race is likely to be dry?.

So should I just install the new physics pack over the old one? Or should a clean the install folder and how? In the add/remove programs there's only the uninstaller for the skin packs.

You have one car for each class (so up to four cars if you run in all champs), you can swap to another one for free (in each class), any further swap will cost you points. But as it's your 1st season & we're already half way through, I'd assume you wont be fighting for the titles just yet & so wouldn't worry yourself too much at this point. Just find some cars your happy with & enjoy Also Looking at the weather forecast for Germany on sunday is likely to be dry? so this means the race is likely to be dry?.
Obviously it could change by Sunday, but at this stage it's looking like it'll be a dry start to the race. But wether will be set to a degree of changeability... so the server could decide that it wants to add some rain as the race progresses, or stay dry.... we'll all find out as we go So should I just install the new physics pack over the old one? Or should a clean the install folder and how? In the add/remove programs there's only the uninstaller for the skin packs.
That will be fine Syd, just run the new pack installer & 1st thing it does is uninstall the old one Dave's been a bit awesome to us with that

There are ideas for the expected weather on the race announcement page. The person starting the server puts initial conditions in based on the local forecast but there is some randomness built in, so in endurance races things can change a lot over eighty minutes. I think for sprint races, things do not change from the starting conditions though (stand to be corrected here). I hope this makes sense.

Don't worry about the car change penalty - it is only 25% of your points for every car change and you get one free change. Your first season will be more about learning so just ignore the penalty and drive what you want. Personally though I'd recommend trying to stick with one car for several races - changing cars means changing setups and possibly driving style. I would also recommend starting with the slower cars. They are more forgiving and are easier to race hard, but still offer a big challenge. As far as the weather is concerned, the dry forecast means that it should be dry in the race, but there is a random element which might make it wet at some stage. Best to practice driving in the wet a bit so that you understand what tyres to take - making a guess in the race is a very big gamble! I suggest you might consider doing a practice race offline. Change the tyre wear and fuel use multiplier to 4x and drive for 20 minutes with one pitstop in the middle. If you can do this then you should be able to handle the real thing. I do this with no AI cars on the track but you could have them if you don't mind the distraction. One final thing (not sure if anyone else has mentioned it). When you set the fuel level for your pitstop, the amount of fuel shown is the amount to FILL TO (I hope the emphasis is clear enough! This means that if you have 50 Litres in the tank when you pit and you ask for 60 Litres you will only get 10 Litres added. So many people (including myself) fall into this trap that it is worth pointing out I think. Good Luck

Spot on Paul, I do exactly the same. Also, if you set the AI drivers to 120% then you'll have an idea of how the our front runners will be doing for real.

Good Advice thankyou, I'm going to give that a try now and report back. I just done 22laps on time trials in the dark, still fairly consistent although i couldnt manage anything faster than a 1.46, which has reminded me that have a brighter headlights mod installed, do I need to find away to remove this?

o.k not good I had the AI set to 100% with 31 cars on track. I qualified 27th with a 145 (although it said i was 11th in qualifying) and finnished in 15th. I was 2.46mins behind leader and I had 1 stop and go. and if thats not bad enough all the cars that were behind me DNF. So im going pratice more and choose a race thats less demanding. Thanks again for all your help and advice and no doubt I will speak to again soon.
For future reference does anyone know whether the 'brighter headlights' mod is allowed as I don't know how to remove other than re-installing the game.

Do you have the new physics car pack as well 57goldtop? Its not just the skins.
Hi Craske, I dont know about the headlight mod but can you join the practise server ok? You might be ok with it then? Was the readme file for the mod? Your happy to join the server for the race, it might be an idea to see peoples times and get an idea of where you are with it. Dont get too disheartned about you pace against others, try to ignore those fastest times posted as we do have a few aliens onboard at times.

That'll be it, I'm downloading now. Craske, I'm lapping at about 1.45 so I think you'll have me to keep you company.
